  1. Giants are losing 4-1 in Wrigley, but the one is Bonds's 652nd 3 to tie.
  2. ** Delgado: 98 Plate appearances; 29 for 86 w/8 2Bs & 4 HRs; .337/.408/.570 ** Schoeneweis: 11 Games; 10.2 IP; 10 H; 4 BBs (2 int); 11 Ks; 2.53 ERA
  3. Maine - 1.0 Wright - 3.5 Delgado - 1.5 Schoeneweis - 1.0
  4. I wonder if Cla Merideth ever caught the guy who stole his 'Y' from him?
  5. Holy Schneike, Maddux gone after 5 !!
  6. The original AFI Top-100 list was from around '98 or so. I don't think they re-do it every year but have updated it once or twice since and this one looks like their most recent one from just this year.
  7. Centerfield wrote: Gamecast has Jarrod Saltalamacchia batting for about a half hour. Took 'em that long to type in his name. Suxx to be the Braves; you score runs in the 9th, 10th & 15th innings and still manage to lose. The game ended when Cox ran out of players and had to use pitcher Kyle Davies as a pinch-hitter for his pitcher with 2-outs and 2-on. He K'd. Speaking of suxx, I give you the Toronto Blue Jays. They held a 1-0 lead thru most of the game but left a small army on base -- 10 hits thru 6 !! -- that you knew was going to come back and bite them. It just did as the Yanx scored 4 in bottom 8. Boston losing again to KC. They've lost like 5 of 8 to them this year.
  8. The list (for successful ones anyway) was on last night's telecast; Seaver has 4, and Frisella and someone else had 2. Seaver was also the last pitcher anywhere to steal one in 2 consecutive starts. It was his rookie year and he was 22 at the time.
  9. Braves put 2 on w/1 out in the 12th - but McCann GiDPs Reds out in top 13 Braves have 3 runs on 15 hits ... no RiSP I guess Oh yeah, and they've picked up Julio Franco Dodgers get a 3R HR from Andre Eithier and lead the Phils 4-3 in the 4th Nat'ls beat Houston
  10. Around 75 to 80. I guess I watch movies just right.
  11. OHernandez - 4.8 LoDuca - 1.0 Delgado - 1.0 Beltran - 1.2 Valentin - 1.0 Feliciano - 0.4 Mota - 0.4 Wright - 0.2
  12. The Bereavement List is a recent thing, put in about 4 or 5 years ago. It gives teams an option of replacing a player for a legit family reason without having to resort to the 15-day DL. Chip was on-deck to PH in the 9th when the last out was made. Tough break kid.
  13. I kinda liked the bunt by Green in that inning. Kept 'em out of the GiDP and was good for a tack-on run.
  14. That might have been an interesting play without the bobble
  15. Got a run and made Peavy throw a double-inning (30 pitches) that inning.
  16. Raymond Payne Ambres - A 27 y/o, 6' 1" RH hitting & throwing OFer from Beaumont, Tx. A former 1st round draft pick for the Florida Marlins (27th overalll in 1998) he had a brief stint in MLB with the Royals in 2005 - which is where we picked him up as a minor league FA - and was currently hitting .272/.370/.492 in 300 ABs with New Orleans - his 82 hits include 16 HRs + 18 2Bs Anyway he's your new backup outfielder, called up to replace Damian Easley who's going on the Bereavement List -- that's a 3-day min/7 day max leave.
  17. "I don't want to bash Peterson, we just never clicked" -- Heath Bell on WFAN
  18. You'd still have to do something with Easley and I can't see them just dropping him. Bereavement leave is a possibility but that's only worth a few days. But then again the IFSPA rarely thinks such things through.
  19. Sosa - 2.7 Wright - 1.0 Reyes - 0.9 LoDuca - 1.1 Feliciano - 0.8
  20. That Lonborg incident - not long after his CY year - was the thing that got the banning of those kind of activities written into standard player contracts. Seaver most likely couldn't have gone skiing even if he wanted to - unless he was really keen on sisking his entire contract. Bell - along with JW Seo - seemed to be the two guys who butted heads most with Peterson while they were here. I'm not surprised that Heath teed off given the chance.
  21. I like Milledge 2nd -- throw him into the deep end of the pool * Hubie, Hubie, Hubie ... Hubie will you be mine?
  22. Y'see, those are exactly the type of questions I'd pick out ... I'd just be a lot less polite in answering them. And there's a perfect example of what I was talking about concerning Martinez. It's bad enough that this fan wants him to change positions, but I love the fact that he simply assumes being able to start in the big leagues next year isn't even in question.
  23. MFS62 wrote: A few weeks ago I read on a minor league board that the report on Martinez' fielding stems from a single scouting report in one of the prospect mags. I would think that Goldstein at BP (he's been doing this stuff for years) and also Baseball America (they quoted a scout a few weeks back trashing FM) would do a little more legwork than just quoting recycled internet material that may have its genesis in one report. But hey, this isn't a death sentence either. He's EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD and holding his own in AA. If he were an American he would have just been drafted 5 weeks ago and probably be in the Gulf Coast League getting his feet wet right now. What these report DO show is that fans need to dial back their expectations when discussing minor league teenagers, no matter how promising. If I had to listen to one more projection with him in next year's lineup (or even '09) or how Milledge was expendable on account of having him in the wings and I was going to go postal. ]... But if a move to first base will ease his path to the majors, I have no heartburn with that I hope we're still a long way away from that. 6-foot tall, RH-hitting 1st baseman aren't exactly valuable produce and unless he develops a helluva bat that move almost automatically makes him a marginal prospect at best.
  24. Rockin' Doc wrote: I believe a pitcher does have some control over the percentage of the balls put in play against him that go for hits ... Greg Maddox and Tom Glavine are two future Hall of Fame pitchers that have built careers around getting batters to frequently hit the ball without great authority. Except that this whole theory started (via a bored law clerk looking to improve his fantasy team) when he discovered that good pitchers like Maddox & GLavine were no more likely to have good BABiP stats in a given year than were more pedestrian pitchers and that rather than being a predictable stat which showed a trend: low walks from David Wells, high Ks from Randy Johnson; it was a number that varied wildly from year to year and pitcher to pitcher.
