  1. Wow, it's Wagner in the 8th! Hopefully he gets the middle of the order here, then we can get some more runs and use someone else for the 9th
  2. One more big hit needed here. It's been a while since we kicked Joe Table's ass.
  3. Gwreck wrote: Gameday just said that Wright took 2 called strikes, one 6 inches inside and the other on the top of his foot. Which is the other bad part of Manuel's IW strategy ... loading the bases when his pitchers couldn't find the plate when NOT trying to walk them.
  4. Reyes (partially) makes up for his baserunning foibles or earlier in the week
  5. Well, Willie opts to burn the extra player and it comes up Aces. Now Manuel opts to IW an ice-cold Reyes to set up a force and pitch to Endy - but puts the go ahead run on in the process and a speedy one at that. Oodles of strategy goin' on here.
  6. Gwreck wrote: Sets us up nicely to use Anderson to PH in the pitcher's spot. Except that you have to bring in LoDuca anyway.
  7. Edgy DC wrote: We've burned two of our three righthanded pinch-hitters, and have only LoDuca to go after Romero with. and Alou
  8. Hey I got a good idea, let's get shut out in the middle innings by a guy with a 6.00 ERA and a 1.80 WHiP !!
  9. Yeah, well tell him to lose it.
  10. It's like watching a Yanqui game: all the breaks are going one way and the game's going to take 4-1/2 hours
  11. And I have no logical explanation for any of those quirks. I mean this has been going on for 8 years now against all assortment of pitchers, for and against various managers, and in three different stadiums. I keep thinking it's got to logically begin to revert to his overall norms but it never does. ABs/HR vs Mets = 11.5 ABs/HR vs non Mets = 20.0 It's like a Seinfeldian conundrum; not only do fans root for laundry, but Par Burrell hits off of laundry.
  12. I finally did what I've been meaning to do for a while and that's look up Burrell's numbers against us compared to what they are everywhere else. And the weird thing is that it's all very similar ... EXCEPT for HRs. His BA is actually a shade LOWER vs the Mets and his 2Bs are considerably down. So the only difference is HRs, where his 39 against us (now 40) should really be about 22 or 23 if hit as his usual rate. It's like all his singles and doubles become HRs when facing Met pitching. Another way to look at it is; - at his "normal" rate, his overall slugging rate (measured by IsoP) is about the same as David Wright - against all NON Met teams it's similar to Khalil Greene - against the Mets it's closest to that of Ryan Howard
  13. This is what I was afraid of (but afraid to talk about) -- that after losing several low-scoring games you're bound to run into one of those days when your starting pitcher doesn't have it ... and then you're really cooked. Meanwhile up the turnpike ... the BoSox are continuing their experiment of not getting any hits for the first half of the game and then seeing if they can stay in it. That it didn't work yesterday doesn't seem to concern them.
  14. ="metirish"]It was originally a night game but got changed for some reason. That reason is apparently the Eagles *exhibition game across the street tonight. * That's right NFL, I said Exhibition game!
  15. Update on the showdowns: AL East: Yanx have taken the first two behind Pettitte & Clemens Still a 6-game gap AL Central: The only division without a 1-vs-2 matchup this week, but Cleveland swept 3rd place Minnesota effectively killing any thoughts they might have of getting back in. Meanwhile 2nd place Detroit loses 2 straight to KC and falls 4.5 games behind Cleveland and 3 out of the WC AL West: Angels sweep the Mariners turning the suddenly close 2 game lead into 5. M's have a pct point lead over the Yanx in the WC NL Central: Cubs & Brewers split the first two with the Brews winning last night behind the return of Ben Sheets and keeping them 1/2 game ahead of the Cards NL West: Padres sweep the D'Backs creating a tie between the two atop the division. One more head-to-head for them tonight. NL East: Not sure what happened here. I couldn't find any reliable results. * As I am now Rick Reed, I will be crossing all picket lines for the duration of the next 50 posts
  16. Perez - 3.5 Sosa - 1.2 Wright - 1.8 Delgado - 1.5 Beltran - 1.0
  17. btw, that slide wasn't nearly as bad as the one the Phils did NOT get called for the other day against the Padres - one that put M Giles on the DL when it was all over. That one was both interference by the rules AND dirty to boot. Zvon and I had a brief conversation about it in one of the IGTs a game or two ago.
  18. A regular take-out slide would have done the job there.
  19. From the 'Just Thinking Ahead' file; arms in the Philly OF: Victorino = VERY good Rowand = Decent but nothing special Burrell = Better than you'd think considering his other fielding skills
  20. Good thing we finally got the full lineup on the field at the same time so we can finally start to ... oh nevermind.
  21. Since we refuse to beat up on shakey starters, can we at least beat up on a shakey bullpen?
  22. metirish wrote: Reyes not getting on is killing this team right now. Reyes GETTING on is killing this team right now.
  23. Reyes Castillo Wright Beltran Alou Delgado LoDuca Milledge Perez Rollins - SS Iguchi - 2B (no Utley? ... that's fine by me) Burrell - LF Howard - 1B Rowland - CF Werth - RF Ruiz - C Nunez - 3B Moyer
  24. Pelfrey pitched on Tuesday and was pulled after just 43 pitches and 2-2/3 hitless innings -- possibly meaning that he's being considered for Saturday's start or maybe that they're looking to him as a bullpen filler once rosters expand. Tom McCarthy on the radio sometime this morning thinks that Humber will start Saturday
