Sure they've had a tougher sked than us to this point, but they can't seem to beat the Rays, are -7 on their RS/RA scale, and have several high-priced hitters hitting under .200 (Papi, Drew) with several others just a bit above. IOW, it's still early folks.
  2. To me it's more like LaRussa under-managed Jerry. Hard to claim that anyone out-managed anyone during that fiasco. As far as Frankie Rod: I suspect the "100" pitches in the pen is likely an exaggeration. Watching via a network it's tough to tell how often or how long he was up because they've always got so many other things going on so I have no actual idea, but it's a condition of today's game that the closer is so often "saved" for the situation which may never come up that he often warms up more than once in anticipation of the spot which may or may not come up. I'd just rather he use him earlier and hopefully for longer and get it all over with.
  3. PotG is going to take some careful examination here. More than ever this one is about when and how each player made his contribution as opposed to just the pure stats. Cora, Takahashi (getting out of that 1st-3rd/none out sit.), Blanco's caught stealings, etc.
  4. We now have a positive runs scored/given up ratio (OK it's only +1) and a 4-8 record A bunch of games we've just lacked the one key hit and/or didn't prevent them other guys from getting theirs, but today/night the breaks went our way. I know it doesn't make us NOT in last place at the moment, but it's a small bright light in an otherwise tough start - and something where having Beltran, Murphy, or a ready Reyes c/would have made a difference.
  5. Give Jerry an extension!!! (OK, so maybe I'm a bit giddy)
  6. Frankie can't pitch a second inning?!?
  7. I don't want to say that this game has gone on a while, but Larry King has gotten married and divorced again just since it started.
  8. Mather's ERA in this game is the same as KRod's
  9. Part of Jerry's problem may be that none of his hitters have any history against Lopez & Mather and so his choices are limited.
  10. Our only two hits (so far) off position players are infield singles.
  11. Time to get to Mather. He's never gone two innings before.
  12. Lohse getting a bat on the ball and getting Pujols to 3rd probably scored that run. Or at least it's an interesting play at home with Francoeur throwing.
  13. Henry Blanco just says no Henry Blanco he can throw Runners try, they just die and they can't steal and he'll throw down again I'm not so sure he was safe, Kinda slid past the bag rather than into it.

  16. Shit! Strike one to Valdes was at least 8 inches outside.
  17. We need more folks. Albert up next inning.
  18. And starring Joe Mather as the loser
  19. Way to go!! Gets out of the inning without Albert getting up and now, at least, have real hitters up against this schmuck - as opposed to last inning when we had the backup catcher, pitcher & Jacobs.
  20. He's hardly the first position player to throw a scoreless half-inning, but with a single and error thrown in it makes it pretty tough.
  21. This tattooed freak might get his second 'win' in a row now.
