I saw it earlier too. Nyjer's one of those guys who's likable and fun to have on your team until you see him for a while. Problem is he's not very good and has even been getting benched lately.
The odds of that being made are remote: lots of money, both have NT clauses, Beltran returning to the scene of his "crime" (leaving via FA), Oswalt reportedly not wanting NE cities, etc., but that's a helluva challenge trade.
I agree. Yeah Mejia probably won't have the career of Oswalt but he very well might have the career of Oswalt from this point forward!! Or, put another way, is Roy Oswalt *Right Now* worth essentially a $29mil/2-yr FA contract (or 3-yrs/$43) AND Jennry Mejia? I'm not sure he's worth either much less both. And I think Houston would be all over that offer like white on Rice University.
Good so far: - Pelfrey getting lots 'o grounders - scoring two after two out and none on Bad so far: - Third out at 3B killed what could have been a larger rally - walking the #8 hitter w/2 outs and allowing the Yanx to clear the pitcher's spot
Whoever had '5th batter' in the when will the Yanx have their first pitching coach visit question, please come to the window to collect your winnings. Betting is still open for over/under wagers of the number of mound conferences during the game - currently set at 37.

You'd be getting a guy on the downside while still paying him for his slipping-into-the-past prime. He also has a no-trade deal so could pick and choose the clubs he wants and speculation has it that he's not a big city, east-coast kinda guy.
Jeter's contract - the one just now running out - was more a matter of Steinbrenner short-sightedness than Jeter greed. They could have signed him far cheaper but George took things year by year with him until a year prior to his FA season*, plus he also had this thing about wanting it to appear that he wasn't "setting the standard" for contracts. So what they did was wait until ARod signed his first and when Texas blew everyone out of the water with their 10/252 deal the Yanx were forced to up their's so Jeter's contract would at least approach the other one. * He did the same thing with Mattingly years earlier then finally signed him to a long-term deal just as his started downhill. George then got pissed that he was over-paying and turned on Mattingly late in his career.
