  1. ghost runner bullshit. Wasn't this peddled originally as temporary? And now they've made it permanent? Or was it introduced as "Now and forevermore you're stuck with this insultingly dumb shit"? I forget. It was peddled as temporary but I suspect that, within the walls of their Park Avenue offices, it was always intended to be permanent. Covid just gave them an excuse to introduce it for the short 2020 season. In '21 they declared it to be still 'necessary' because the virus might re-surge and there were still travel restrictions. Then in '22 they had a shortened spring training due to labor negotiations so of course they had to use it again. By '23 they sort of off-handedly said it was permanent because 'The Fans Love It'!
  2. That game went a nearly full 3-1/2 hours (3:27). Even for an 11 inning game that's a long one in this new era. Of course in the old days they would have been starting extras at about the 3:27 mark.
  3. Every once in a while you get a W you TOTALLY didn't deserve.
  4. I'm combining Huascar Brazoban's names and nicknaming him 'Boxcar'
  5. Oh Danny boy, don't put this speedster on. Too late.
  6. Is there something in the rules that prevents us from getting a ball out of the infield with a runner on 3rd and < 2 outs?
  7. The bases-loaded BB, our best scoring play after the bases-loaded HBP.
  8. Marlin pitcher Xzavion Curry would net you some SCRABBLE points.
  9. Woof! 1st & 3rd / none out and never came close to scoring.
  10. Buttosattva, won't you take me by the hand Hey, we made a clean infield play!!!

Gary just credited Torrens with "throwing out all three stolen base attempts" against him this season. But shouldn't the leadoff steal in bottom 8th there go against his record even though they never made a throw? I mean, he clearly stole the base off Diaz but that happens all the time. I suspect Gary just misspoke.
  12. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Holy shit do the Marlins get screwed over there I think he probably was out there (I didn't think so at first) but was it "definitive"? Let's put it this way, I'd be bitching about it if the unis were reversed on that play.
  13. =Gwreck post_id=188607 time=1743635559 user_id=56] I haven't been able to watch. Why is Diaz pitching the 8th inning of a tied game?

  16. Torrens should have plowed the catcher there. It IS permitted even under the new rules if the catcher has the ball and is blocking the plate.
  17. Winker's walk (now erased by a GiDP) was the Mets 18th of the young season. But Alonso (4) and Soto (6) have 10 of them.
  18. Nimmo's beard isn't bad. He no longer looks like the old squeaky clean Brandon, but that's OK. Senga's chin patch on the other hand ...
  19. The bats and the gloves are abandoning us early this season.
  20. Yeah, I forgot to mention him. Arthroscopic surgery so not the worst kind. Still, his return is TBD at this point. Plus Acuna, starting catcher Sean Murphy, and starter Spenser Strider are currently all rehabbing past injuries. And of course they're without Profar until mid-season, right after signing him to a 3-yr/$42mil deal.
  21. Kind of strange finding the above post -- Braves trade for Griffin Canning -- as the most recent one in this thread. The Braves then turned around and released Canning less than a month later and the Mets signed him a month after that (so far, so good). Sounds like Atlanta just found a creative way to get someone to take Soler's salary (signed thru '26 @ $16M/per). Anyway, back to the Braves 2025 season: Look, opening a season on the west coast with three vs SDP followed by four at LAD is a tall order and especially so when both teams are good as they are now. But so far it's an 0-6 disaster with one game left. The pitching has been more or less decent [4.33 RA/G] but they've scored just NINE total runs! Talk about a NOffense! Marcel Ozuna is their leading hitter at .214 (also .214 SLG) and the team as a whole is slashing .137/.238/.220 // 458. That's a 38 OPS+ 26 y/o Nick Allen is apparently the SS replacement for now. He was acquired last November from Oakland where he hit .210/.254/.283 in parts of three seasons. Bryce Elder vs Blake Snell today. They then go home to face MIA x 3 and PHI x 3 starting on Friday.
  22. The first error didn't hurt thanks to Torrens's caught stealing. Real nice tag by Acuna btw on that CS. Not quite Ordonez/Baez level, but purdy darn good. Thought Senga was going to get past the second Lindor E-6 too. He got the next two outs but then went: BB - 2-RBI 2B Pretty good game overall but that 2-out 2B and the early 2R HR were both shots and they did him in.
  23. Three perfect innings by Kranick on 22 total pitches!! Now if only the rest of the team didn't collectively decide to suck and hitting and fielding tonight.
  24. I was hoping for the Senga/Senger battery, but I guess Torrens is on such a torrential run right now that Mendoza chose to go with that semi-homophone pair instead.
