Davey long claimed he was no longer interested in managing. Now, not only is he apparently going to take this job, but rumor has it it's NOT going to be merely to fill out the season as he's going to be snagging the three-year deal that the team famously refused to give to Riggleman.

John McLaren has just been tossed out of what may prove to be his only game as Nationals manager. Tough to blame him. On a tag play the 1st base ump's out call was over-ruled by the home plate ump. Probably a correct over-rule, but I don't know if I've ever seen a judgement call overturned like that.

On a side note, Brandon Lyon - the nominal closer for Houston - is being shut down for the season. Not that Houston is going to bid for Frankie but that's one fewer "proven" short-man on the market. Not clear at this point which team(s) both 'need' a set-up guy and are willing to pay for one (both in money and in bodies). Be nice if we could get something along the lines of what Washington got (catcher Matt Ramos) for Matt Capps when they dealt him to Minnesota last season while Joe Nathan was on the shelf.

Only other gay dame in today's abbreviated sked has the Mariners at the (now .500) Nats. They're already in the 7th there, in large part because Jason Marquis and rookie Michael Pineda* are tossing dueling 3-hit shut-outs. * I had no idea how big this guy is - 6' 7" - 260

So basically he's on pace to wind up with the 2nd most triples in 'modern baseball' history; aka, the most in just under a century.
