  1. Yanx 3 - Brewers 0 in the 3rd Another Teixeira HR for one of the runs. Be nice if Prince would stop sucking (just K'd w/bases loaded & 2 outs) especially after killing us a few weeks back. BoSox 0 - Phils 0 in the 4th Lester v Hamels although suddenly Hamels is out of the game Sox all of a sudden can't score - and to combat that (or to combat something) they've DFA'd Mike Cameron
  2. That's twice-on/twice-erased for Reyes. Can't give away runners like that in when you're in the land of Ver.

  4. I think Leyland was out there during the Byrdak/Parnell "mix-up" to see if he could convince the umps that Collins had in fact called on Parnell first meaning he either had to come into the game and pitch to at least one batter (the LHB in case) or be declared as "announced" and therefore ineligible for the rest of the game.
  5. Next game starts in a few minutes.

  7. A lot of loud outs tonight - both ways.
  8. Didn't Jimmy Webb have a lyric about this? -- by the time they call for Alburquerque we'll be hitting ...
  9. Edgy DC wrote: Well, it would appear these Tigers are playing in earnest. And here I thought they were playing in Detroit. Oh well, that's why you build big leads -- so you can survive 2-HR innings later on. Now we just have to stop treating this Ryan Perry guy as if he's Gaylord Perry.
  10. Paulino & Hairston -- put upon this earth to hit left-handers.
  11. Yeah Miguel, while you're busy telling your teammates how far you hit that one, why don't you also tell them about how you can't be bothered to stretch even slightly for pick-off throws two nights in a row now. Great hitter but that dude's been a frustrating player to watch practically since the first day he came up.

It's got to be hard enough to get both spouses and all their lawyers and the judge to agree to splitting terms but now you need an overseer from Milwaukee to approve it also. They now have to tromp back to court and say; "sorry judge, we can no longer meet the terms we agreed to earlier, the commissioner of baseball doesn't approve."
  14. So a day after I was praising how well the Nationals are playing they seemed to revert to their old ways: Marquis pitched poorly last night against the not great hitting Angels, the infield chipped in with five errors, and the bullpen (although not their top guys) got smacked around to make it a rout - all of which means that the Davey Johnson era is off to an 0-2 start.
  15. Dickey - 1.5 Reyes - 1.7 Beltran - 1.6 Bay - 1.5 Pagan - 1.3 Thole - 1.4 Murphy - 1.0

  17. That was Greinke tonight too, although he was partly done in by his defense. John Peter (Juan Pierre) turned four ways then fell on a Granderson soft fly right at him and played it into a 1st inning RBI triple. Then the Brews played the most ridiculous shift I've ever seen on ARod (everyone except 1B on the other side of the diamond even though he hits to the opposite field all the time) and so he simply rolled a ball through the open hole WITH MEN ON BASE for a run-scoring single.
  18. Tonight's three-bagger was also the 98th of his career in game #1,000 - or just shy of one every 10 games.
  19. Bags loaded again ... you don't suppose?
  20. Jose is now more than half way to Rennie Stennet's 7-fer-7
  21. btw, I totally called the HR ahead of time ... only it was the Thole HR.
  22. It should be noted that it's a 7:05 start. If you wait until 7:10 you'll have missed a Jose Reyes AB. I do that all the time with out of town games, miss the first few ABs because I'm conditioned to turn the TV on at 7:10. The pre-game stuff is just an excuse to get an extra 5 minutes of commercials in.
  23. On the other hand, in terms of his qualifications he really quit while he was ahead at what's probably going to be right around the high-water mark for the Nats. He'll be credited with getting them going, and if/when they fall back down it won't be his fault. I too suspect some of their "luck" is going to run out soon ... BUT - Ryan Zimmerman is now back after missing almost the entire season until last week - Werth may never be Werth his contract but he also can't hit this bad forever - and they'll probably see Strasburg before the end of the year In the meantime, Espinosa at 2B has 15 HRs; Morse, now at 1B after LaRoche went down for the year, has 15 also in part-time duty; their defense is much improved; Ramos is a legit catcher; Marquis and Jordan Zimmermann are both healthy and they've got a ton of good arms in the pen. IOW, I wouldn't count on them automatically turning back into pumpkins any time soon.
  24. Edgy DC wrote: Johnson loses his debut 4-3 to the Angels. Although the Nats continue to get an amazing number of late HRs. Last night it was a 2-out 9th inning solo HR to tie the game by 2B Danny Espinosa one day after he won a game with a 2R HR in the 7th. They lost last night's game in the 10th but have had just 9 hits combined over the last three games but have been in every game (going 1-2) because four of those hits have been HRs and they've been getting great starting pitching almost every night. They're like the anti-Mets of late. I'm suspecting that Johnson was the Nats target all along, and moreover, I suspect that Riggleman suspected it. Or, if not Davey, then their target was at least a guy named 'Not Jim Riggleman'. Not sure that would be enough for me to lose approx 400K over and probably kill any chance of ever getting the same job back all on account of not getting the job you've got this June guaranteed through next September ... but that's his call not mine.
