Technically the Cubs, Padres, Twins, Royals, Angels, and Marlins are worse at the moment ... but, yeah, this isn't looking good, especially with their best pitcher going against our worst tomorrow.

  3. Astros starting with the cheap hits right off the bat tonight I see.
  4. No Ottawa - at least not for a while. Also notable in that article is that the Binghamton ownership is adamantly denying any and all contact with the potential Ottawa group.

And I could wear a Blue Jays, Indians or Brewers cap and not get any crap from fans. I guess it just wasn't as toxic as it is today. Not to play amateur psychoanalyst, but I'd wager it also wasn't a "thing" to rip in opponents, especially if they aren't playing in the same stadium. And most of the fights generally stemmed from just the usual reasons fights break out rather than blaming it on a fan being in the wrong place. Don't know whom to entirely blame for this kind of behavior, ESPN for constantly driving home the "rivalry" to the point where I'm sure a match up between the teams 20 games apart in the standings will be treated as if the division title is on the line. I vote for: 'Sense of entitlement among YLDBs who think their team winning extends to them a feeling of superiority over those unfortunate fans who root for the "wrong" teams and therefore the right to mock and/or intimidate (verbally or physically) them'. But, hey, that's just me.

  7. Been serving up a lot of them lately (just in case you hadn't noticed) and from a variety of sources (we're equal opportunity offenders). Friday: Tulowitski - 1st inning - 2-Run (Schwinden) Hernandez - 7th inning - Grand Slam (Parnell) Saturday Fowler - 9th inning - Solo (Francisco) Sunday: Helton - 8th inning - Grand Slam (Byrdak) Monday: Downs - 6th inning - 2-Run (Dickey) Those five shots were responsible for thirteen frickin' runs and were more than half of the eight HRs the staff has served up over the last four games; the dual 3-Run bombs during the 5th inning disaster on Friday (0 outs & 1 out) plus Carlos Gonzalez's 1-out/9th inning HR on Sunday being the others. The only thing that saved this past stretch from a complete Chernobyl was that Frank^2 had a two run lead on Saturday and that Marco Scutaro's 2-out/11th inning shot on Sunday (which I was positive was gone the second he hit it) fell just short.
  8. Dickey - 3.0 Byrdak - 0.2 Parnell - 0.2 Nieuwenhuis - 2.0 Wright - 1.5 Torres - 0.6 Davis - 1.0
  9. Santana - 3.0 Parnell - 0.2 Ramirez - 0.5 Tejada - 1.0 Nieuwenhuis - 1.5 Wright - 1.5 Davis - 1.2 Thole - 0.4 Murphy - 0.3 Baxter - 0.4

  11. Tejada - 2.2 Hairston - 3.5 Duda - 1.4 Batista - 0.2 Byrdak - 0.2

I suppose you have the better speed if/when he gets on, but if I'm in a situation where I need a guy to get on base I might look first to someone who has, oh I don't know, gotten on base in the major leagues before.

  14. C'mon guys, this team has a history of kicking Brett Myers ass.

  16. How many more cheap hits are these dudes gonna get? All but one of them so far.
  17. Altuve also has been, on and off anyway, the youngest player in the NL since his debut last July. He was the youngest to play in the NL this season until this past weekend. First hIs teammate Jordan Lyles, who is a few months younger, took that title although the Astros sent him back after a brief one-start promotion. And then the Nats promoted Bryce Harper who is a full 2 years + 5 months younger!
  18. Wandy the lefty against Schwinden in Wednesday's day game/get-away day is an iffy proposition at best. Would like to have the first two in our pockets going into that game. The Astros oddly have a +3 RS/RA number so far this year despite their lousy record.
  19. Yeah, I think Kemp pretty much has Player of the Month honors lined up for April. In fact, his April has been so far ahead of everyone else that I think if he has a good game today then he locks up the award for May too!
  20. Jose Altuve [Al-Too-VAY] is a pretty good player ... especially so considering he's like 4' 6"
  21. ATNTMTM = All the News that Matters to Me aka: a general round-up of semi-interesting shit that's going on. * BoSox won six straight to crawl back to .500 before losing this afternoon. All this started the day following that debacle against the Yanx. The thing is they pretty much have to take advantage now during this relatively weak spot in their schedule. They just fattened up on the Twins & ChiSox and have Oakland, Baltimore, KC, Cleveland & Seattle coming up before things turn messy again. Crawford's going to miss at least half the season, Ellsbury is nowhere near coming back, and their pitching is still a mess. But if they kick ass now, who knows, maybe they can get to 85 wins by early September after 4-10 just like they did last year. Then they can worry about not collapsing down the stretch. * I don't want to say that the Pirates have decent pitching coupled with pathetic hitting, but when they lost to the Braves Friday night 6-1 in what was their 19th game of the season, it was the first game of the season for them where [u:1fdgs3tb]either team notched over five runs[/u:1fdgs3tb]. They've since started a new streak by winning 4-2 on Saturday then losing 4-3 today. * It's not just Pujols He's obviously the most notable guy with 0 HRs so far this season. Other noted power hitters wearing the bagel are Giancarlo Stanton, Mark Reynolds & Alphonso Soriano, while the likes of Robinson Cano & Joey Votto have 1 each. * Now that the Angels have released Bobby Abreu do you suppose Arte Moreno and his mgmt are starting to evaluate just how much cash they've thrown at OFers either thru FA or acquiring other teams' expensive contracts? ... Abreu, Gary Mathews Jr., Vernon Wells, Torii Hunter. Man, that's been an expensive decade of mostly mediocrity (or worse). * Every time I tune into the middle of a Nats game it's either 0-0 or 1-0 Their last four games have consisted of 17 runs scored - both teams combined! And most of those were late in the game. Their starters' ERA is around 1.70; the BAA in the .180s; WHiP is under .90 * No Carpenter, no Pujols, a shitty Adam Wainwright, a slow start from both Holliday & Berkman - and yet the Cardinals leading the NL in both Runs Scored/Game and fewest Runs Allowed/Game It's like every year whatever shit they throw out there suddenly catches fire. * Paul Konerko now has over 400 career HRs. I wouldn't have known that. 394 of those are with the White Sox where he went in 1999 (in a trade for Mike Cameron). HIs arrival there essentially pushed Frank Thomas into full time DH duty. Thomas had arrived in 1990 and he hit 448 of his 521 HRs for the ChiSox. Then when Thomas left they picked up Jim Thome and he over-lapped with Konerko and produced 148 of his HRs for Chicago from that same 1B/DH spot. That's a lot of fucking HRs (990) from essentially 1-1/2 positions on the field in just over a 20-year span. I mean to get back before that trio at 1st the last regular guy you find is freakin' Dan Pasqua

Maybe a guy his size has to move to a corner spot once he gets a couple more years on him but, for now anyway, this kid can play there. I predict a very long rehab assignment for Jason Bay. Take your time. The point isn't about him vs Bay. It's about the word on him as a prospect being that opinions were divided as to his ability to handle CF defensively. If not, of course, he'd have to move to one of the corners which in turn means that his bat becomes that much more critical as far as whether he could hack it as an everyday player. Based on the sampling we've got so far, that isn't a concern anytime in the near future.

Thole picked the wrong AB to hit his HR
