Hard to figure that out since the BB-Ref stats only list those ABs where the AB ends via the 3-0 count IOW, many 3-0 counts eventually become 3-1 or 3-2 counts and therefore whatever finally ends that AB isn't tallied as occurring on a 3-0 count anymore. Of the ones that have ended by the 3-0 pitch, the Mets indeed are now a whopping 1-for-1 along with 32 walks (11 of those intentional) in 33 PAs. That all seems unusually cautious to me although it can probably be partially chalked up to being a team of mostly young hitters* with the exception of Wright and when pitchers get to 3-0 on him it probably means they're pitching around him. I'd expect Murph to be more aggressive at times in those counts but maybe he just hasn't seen something he liked. * especially with Bay & Torres missing so much time
  2. With the exception of the Phillies, each NL East team faces an above-.500 opponent to start off the IL section of your programming. - A bit odd that the Red Sox (18-20) are the worst team faced this weekend but that's who Philly gets. - Marlins head to Cleveland to face the first place Indians. Yeah they're only 22-16 and the only above-.500 team in the AL Central, but 1st-place os 1st place. - Nationals (3rd best record in NL) host the best-in-AL Orioles - Braves go to Atlanta to face the 25-16 Rays - As Gary noted late in yesterday's game, the Mets did the Yanx a bit of a favor wearing out both Chapman (35 pitches) & Ondrusek (34) as the Reds finish up their 5-day visit to NYC to face the Yanx this weekend. Which brings to mind the question about whether the Mets & Yanx have ever "traded opponents" like this before? Toronto just finished hosting the Yanx for a two-game series (Jays took both) and now immediately get the Mets, while the Reds simply change the direction the team bus drives from their mid-town hotel.
  3. Dickey - 1.4 Rauch - 0.6 Parnell - 0.6 Francisco - 0.1 Wright - 2.7 Duda - 1.3 Murphy - 1.0 Cedeno - 1.8 Johnson - 0.5
  4. Acosta - 0.1 Ramirez - 1.2 Wright - 1.5 Baxter - 1.5 Duda - 0.3 Murphy - 0.4
  5. Batista - 4.5 Byrdak - 0.15 Parnell - 0.3 Murphy - 2.4 Wright - 1.6 Nieuwenhuis - 0.45 Cedeno - 0.6
  6. Oh they're pitching to everyone else (except for Sugarpants). They're not throwing Ike or Duda any fastballs, but they are throwing to them.
  7. So how goofy is it that half of our >2R HRs (2 of 4) have come via back-up short-stops? Valdespin & Cedeno now each have a 3R HR
  8. Niese - 3.6 Rauch - 0.5 Murphy - 1.0 Turner - 1.6 Wright - 1.0 Duda - 0.5 Nieuwenhuis - 1.4
  9. Dickey - 3.0 Byrdak - 0.1 Parnell - 0.2 Wright - 3.2 Duda - 1.9 Murphy - 0.6 Torres - 1.0

  11. This 'Mr. Pessimism' role kind of suits me. Maybe i'll keep it going for a while.
  12. Seven or eight more runs and I'll start feeling comfortable.
  13. DAVID WRIGHT IS A GOLDEN GOD!!!

(NOT Duda and Murphy, mind you.) I can't believe I'm saying this, but I wish our manager was more like Dusty Baker. Except that it's not like Dusty is doing this in order to have Chapman face the meat of the order. He's as locked into the '8th inning guy' thing as anyone. It's the 7th. On the road. Between Rauch & Chapman pitching I got totally messed up on the inning being played. Still not wild about Dusty's pen mgmt. Hell, their closer went down and STILL CHapman won't close despite the numbers.
  15. We're making Chapman work this inning if nothing else - 25 pitches so far and still only one out.

  17. Bases-loaded/no-one out ... I'd say we have an outside shot at scoring this inning. (Yes, I'm playing Mr. Pessimism Guy today)
  18. If this team were a) capable of hitting a long ball and capable of holding a lead I'd be feeling pretty good about this game right about now.
  19. Bunting is for lucky bastards!

  21. Getting out of that inning unscathed could prove fortuitous later on ... until the bullpen blows the lead after we catch up of course.
  22. Torres leads off bottom 5th with a single - thus becoming the guy designated to be stranded in this inning.
  23. Yeah, like I said earlier, just leaving him in there for one more batter would have made a world of more sense. If he gets that guy then either leave him in for Votto too (HR couldn't tie the game) or go to Byrdak and hopefully shorten by two outs what you need from Rauch & Francisco.
  24. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Santana turned into a pumpkin pretty quick. That we even had a lead to protect was mostly Baxter's catch and Votto's error. Which is a point in the argument from the other day (pre-virus attack) when we were discussing PH-ing for Niese. Here Terry did not PH for Johan and not only didn't get an extra run in (runner on 3rd/2-out) but the starter served up an HR and didn't finish the inning he was left in for anyway. Bottom line is: if the pen is going to keep imploding like this night after night with the only alteration being whose turn it is to throw the gas can we're going to lose a lot of games because of it no matter what happens - so managing it wisely becomes all the more important.
  25. I was too pissed off last night to go wading through any post-game stuff, so did we ever get an explanation from [crossout]J[/crossout]Terry on pulling Parnell after just 5 pitches? Not that Rauch shitting the bad was predictable or anything but, especially given the circumstances last night, starting the 8th with Bobby P seemed to be the perfect set-up. Even if just to use him for one batter before turning to Byrdak to face Votto (due up 2nd) and then Rauch to finish the inning, switching relievers before you needed to was doubly-risky on a night where Rammy-Rammy was unavailable and with Frankie-Frankie so shaky lately.
