  1. And just imagine how good he'd be if he didn't take time off to write books and climb mountains. sther Newberg... I seem to remember that name from when I used to listen to Imus. He nicknamed her 'Lobster'.
  2. Joe Maddon sent out a tweet in the wake of all this apologizing for being late to a game due to his pedicure appointment running late.
  3. This seems like it's starting to become a topic of conversation around baseball and the media covering it. By tradition teams have been able to expand rosters - theoretically up to their 40-man limit - once September 1st rolls around. But lately folks are starting to question how fair it is to play the final crucial month under what is essentially a different set of rules than what governs the first 130+ games. So, if given dictatorial powers over MLB, what would you prefer for the roster question over the final month?
  4. Joe Maddon only gets to the park late when he gets a flat tire (he's an avid bicyclist even to the point of taking his on road trips).
  5. I bet that Dickey winds up tied with Koosman & Seaver and never gets that extra .28 win.
  6. Despite losing two of three, there was something kind of appealing about this series.
  7. Aside from the fact that the Mets like last 9 outs have been Ks, they're doing OK here.
  8. Shelby Miller on to pitch. This guy has been one of the top pitching prospects in baseball over the last few years but stumbled this year to become one of the more disappointing prospects. Let's say we ruin his debut? And then we can make fun of him on account of his name being Shelby.
  9. 2-0 bases-loaded curve-balls are nice Wainwright, but you have to get your fast-ball over once in a while too.
  10. AN RBI FOR THOLE!! AN RBI FOR THOLE!! THE METS GET AN RISP HIT!! THE METS GET AN RISP HIT!! THE NEW PHONE BOOK'S HERE!! THE NEW PHONE BOOK'S HERE!!
  11. "Tu familia? No, your family is still called Corleone. And you'll run it like a Corleone"
  12. Familia - 0.6 Harvey - 1.0 Wright - 1.1 Hairston - 1.1 Baxter - 0.5 Tejada - 0.5 Turner - 0.6 Bay - 0.3 Murphy - 0.3
  13. G-Fafif wrote: In David's past 26 games, when it seems he's done next to nothing, he's actually collected 26 hits (batting .271) ... It seems like he's done next to nothing because every single hit during that span has been a single and has come with the bases empty. OK that may not be 100% accurate but I'm betting that it's purdy dern close
  14. Not that the Cards are killing the ball either, but three different NYM pitchers have now put on the leadoff hitter in six of the seven innings.
  15. Tough to complain about how GiDPs are killing any run scoring chances we do get when: a) all our hits are singles and most of our outs are grounders anyway. DeScalso over at SS must have about 15 assists already in not yet two full games.
  16. And there's a tie atop the AL East -- with Tampa lurking just 1-1/2 games behind!!
  17. btw, it was apparently Beltran who, while taking swings for a possible PH spot last night and watching a TV, noticed that Torres may have missed 1st and alerted Matheny who in turn alerted his pitcher - all of which was made possible by the time-delay following Torres's slide into 2nd and the possible injury from that.
  18. So apparently 11 innings into this series there are still no Met footprints on 1st base.
  19. Now what would make you say such a mean thing? -- I mean aside from the whole 20-41 regular season record over the last decade and their four straight 1st round playoff exits (2-12 overall) whenever they see pinstripes. And those were from mostly Good Twins teams.
  20. Interesting mix of teams fighting things out over there. You've got a couple teams that have trouble scoring, a couple more who aren't as good at preventing, and Baltimore which seemingly isn't very good at either yet has won 20 of their last 31 TEAMRSRATEX1st7thNYY4th4thCHIW5th5thOAK9th2ndTB11th1stDET6th6thBALT10th9th Those are current ranks among all AL teams.
  21. "Now I'm taking my pastel markers, my hair dye and Tootsie Pops and heading off to my summer house in Sag Harbor." Fixed it for you.
  22. Ummm, that's his left.
  23. Ceetar wrote: The [Twins] are gonna just roll over for them? The Red Sox are? Rollover? - No. Currently suck? - Yes And while the Yanx are playing those teams the Rays & O's will be playing each other. And, no, none of that is a guarantee, but it is an advantage.
  24. Acosta - 0.9 Edgin - 0.5 Shoppach - 1.8 Murphy - 2.0 Tejada - 0.3 Torres - 0.5 Davis - 0.5 Baxter - 0.5
  25. This whole thing looks like it could get fun over the final month - and my version of 'Triple Happiness' (or more) these days involves NYM wins, MFY losses, and some combination of Tampa wins, Baltimore wins, and Oakland wins. EAST Yanx - their one-time 10 game lead has shrunk to 1 over Balmer, 2.5 over Tampa 9 games vs Balt & Tampa over the next 12 days Finish easy with final 10 games v Minn, Tor & Bos CENTRAL ChiSox1 game lead over Detroit despite just getting swept by Tigers 4 games at Tigers next week WEST Texas - 4.0 game lead over Oakland, 8.5 ahead of Angels 7 left v As including final 3 of the season WC 1 - Oakland - tied w/Yanx for 2nd best record in AL: 2 - Baltimore, 1 game back ---------------------------------------- Tampa, currently 1.5 games out of playoffs Detroit, 3.0 games out
