  1. deGrom - 3.0 Murphy - 1.0 Wright - 1.0 Duda - 1.2 Granderson - 1.1 Tejada - 0.9 Lagares - 0.9 d'Arnaud - 0.9
  2. Not the prettiest game ever, but we won by a healthy margin despite giving up 13 hits overall and 10 to the combo of Heyward, Freeman, Upton & Upton.
  3. Around the league tonight ... - Yanx hand Tanaka a 2-run lead in the 1st, but lose 5-3 in large part due to a tie-breaking Nick Swisher HR. Good thing the Yanx got rid of all those HR hitters they hated (like Swisher & Grandy) in favor of a small-ball/pop-gun offense. Maybe it's time for them to re-think that wish. - O's at Nats rained out tonight. It was to be the 2nd game of their 4-game 2+2 series but they're not going to make it up either Wednesday or Thursday by doing a 2-games/2-cities/one-day thing that the Mets & Yanx did twice. Yeah, those stadiums are 40 miles apart rather than 6, but it would be doable in a day/night way.

  6. Somebody finally hit something that Heyward couldn't catch up to. One more run and we outscore Germany.
  7. Pitching, defense, and two-out RBI hits!! Our cup runneth over tonight.
  8. Who says it has to be marginal? If a team has a near ready for prime time OFer they might be willing to swap him for Syndergaard if they're short on pitching, or be willing to part with him in order to fill several holes, say Muffy plus two pitchers, or whatever. Again, I wasn't being specific here, just proposing [u:gpoh5hqr]the type of OF[/u:gpoh5hqr] we should be looking for rather than the established but middle-aged list of flawed characters on that earlier list, or for the kind of kith-ceiling yet lower minors guy that's still years away. Trades for both types have their place but not for the Mets right now.
  9. Make that TEN!! btw, official game - with the front right around the PA/NJ border at the moment
  10. Oh I was just using LA & StL as examples simply because they have OF prospects who are both good and near ready. Whether they'd be willing to deal or if we even have a trading match with either of them right now is a whole 'nother story. And besides, I don't know that either have some sort of philosophical aversion to dealing prospects. Smart mgmt shouldn't cling to either a view that never trades them or one that always does.

But he also had another three 2-hit games. In 46 plate appearances this year, Freddie's 16 for 38 against the Mets with a 1.158 OPS. Which wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that those 16 hits account for 357 RBIs (or thereabouts)
  12. The type of OF guy you'd want to trade for now (or most times really, but especially in the current NYM position) is someone else's nearly ready top position prospect -- someone like Oscar Tavares of StL, Joc Pederson w/the Dodgers, etc. Tall order? ... sure, but guys like that do get moved: Will Myers for James Shields (other pieces involved as well) or Jesus Montero to Seattle for Michael Pineda (a bad example maybe since both crashed and burned since the swap but no one knew that at the time) both went down in the last few years. Most of that list from the previous page is likely to help us little now (if that) and not at all in the future. What would such a deal take? Syndergaard almost certainly in the type of one-for-one 'challenge trade' that exchanges players of similar age/future such as Montero/Pineda, or something like a plug-in player (Muffy maybe) plus several prospects that fill some current contender's holes.

  14. It was mainly just the last one. We've seen so many of those game-winning and/or game-icing opps go by un-cashed this year that I've become conditioned to the idea that they won't.
  15. Upon reflection, my first thought about last night is that clutch hits have been so rare this season that when something like Tejada's single comes around it's almost shocking.
  16. Kevin Plawecki and Brandon Nimmo crack the Top-50 on Baseball America's mid-season list at #40 & 48. Neither had been in their pre-season Top-100, but here they join Noah Syndergaard who slips slightly from 16 to 19 BA's comments: Syndergaard -- Las Vegas + elbow problems + banged up shoulder have slowed the progress of the Mets top prospect. Plawecki -- Mets might have a tough choice between catchers Travis dArnaud and Plawecki down the road. Nimmo -- keeps adding size and strength, and his excellent idea of the strike zone remains his foundation skill.
  17. Torres - 1.5 Murphy - 2.1 Granderson - 2.1 Lagares - 1.0 Campbell - 0.5 Tejada - 0.3
  18. Matsuzaka - 3.0 Torres - 0.8 d'Arnaud - 1.0 Wright - 1.1 Lagares - 1.0 Campbell - 0.5 Granderson - 1.3 Tejada - 1.3
  19. Gotta like a game that ends with four tied innings and Kimbrel never gets off his butt.
  20. Doo-Doo should have tagged from 1st on that. If it fell it didn't matter and if caught he could have walked there.
  21. In other NL East news, the Orioles just hung a six-spot on the Nationals (including 3 HRs) in the top of the 11th. 8-2 O's heading to the bottom half.
  22. Looks like Torres is the guy we should have brought in two innings ago. He dispatched Heyward & Johnson with ease.
  23. I don't fault Campbell at all on that play.
  24. NOW we need a balk.
