  1. WOW that's crazy, bullpen management it seems is a thorny issue for a lot of teams. Good article .
  2. Nats hitting Pedro hard early doors , 1-0 Nats.
  3. IIRC there were rumblings earlier in the season about him being fired.
  4. Something like this.
  5. I laughed heartily when I read this quote form Cano today. Cano on being benched. ] "He's right, he's the manager, and like they say, four eyes can see better than two. I let the team down, Ninety-nine percent of the time I play hard. It's kind of frustrating not helping the team, but he's right."
  6. Kinda cool to have dcbatgirl here , nice work bmfc1.
  7. Brewers fans at this board seem happy. http://brewersfandemonium.yuku.com/topic/15618
  8. Stunning , so stunning it might work.
  9. I'm blaming Edgy getting married on this Mets mess.
  10. Castillo needs to seize this chance and get back in as a regular.
  11. If Pedro can't give a good showing against this team then I fear for this season , still the Nats are sure to be pumped up to face the Mets.
  12. I'm sure Figgi will be on standby to enter in the second inning.
  13. sharpie wrote: Also we want the Cubs to win so that they may not play so hard when they play us. Yeah but the Mets might take things for granted then and blow the series.
  14. Soup Wrote ] I don't want the team or the game to affect me in that way. Why can't I just enjoy the game for the game? Why can't I just 'turn it off' after a bad loss or a good win and move on to my real life? It truly bothers me and I don't like it at all. My kids should not have to walk on eggshells around me if Ayala blows a save. My wife should not have to watch TV by herself in the bedroom because I'm brooding in the basement over Luis Castillo's lack of range. Im not breaking things or yelling at anybody but a baseball team losing a big game just should not get to me as much as it does. This is exactly what I don't want to happen to me , and for the most part I am able to take a step back and shrug my shoulders when they lose. I think having a son that's ten months old helps becasue I can just pick him up and instantly I am smiling again , actually my wife takes the losses harder than I do now. I have really gotten her into the Mets. Still I can't imagine I will be anything less than pissed if the Mets blow this.
  15. Zambrano did it , I tuned in to ESPN as he threw his last pitch.
  16. Steve Wrote ]Dude, I hate the Yankees as much as you do, I believe Val when he says he hates them but I do not believe you.
  17. SteveJRogers wrote: I like you Val, but I swear you try too hard sometimes to "fit" in around here with some of your stuff. Hilarious , statement of the year so far , be tough to beat I imagine.
  18. TheOldMole wrote: I forget now -- one of the guys in the booth. Keith said it more than a few times , not sure myself why he thought Niese wouldn't know , he seems like a smart kid.
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: ="bmfc1"]I hate the albino physicist. Whitey Einstein? Good descriptions , every time I see him I think of the big German guy form "Die Hard".
  20. Mark Grace is a clich spewing machine , not as annoying as he usually is though , thanks Howie.
  21. Just taking the piss with Castro , wish he would stay healthy is all.
  22. More fun from Hank. ]End of the line for Yankees GM Cashman? | anthony.rieber@newsday.com Was Hank Steinbrenner's latest pronouncement the final straw for Brian Cashman? Cashman, speaking in the Yankees' clubhouse Friday night, seemed like a guy one step closer to the exit after Steinbrenner's statement a day earlier that he wants the general manager to be head of an advisory group. Cashman, whose contract expires Oct. 31, had agreed to return in 2005 only if he were given sole decision-making power in the Yankees' baseball hierarchy by George Steinbrenner. Did Cashman see the comments? "Oh, I saw them," he said. His reaction? "I think the Steinbrenners should have a structure set up they feel comfortable with," he said. "Without a doubt." Will he be part of that structure? "At the end of the day, I definitely believe as owners, they need to set up a structure that they're comfortable with," he said. "It's as simple as that." Again ... does he want to return if that's the structure? "I'm certainly not going to make this about me," he said. "I do have an advisory board. It's my manager, it's my coaching staff, it's our pro scouting director, it's our farm director, it's our amateur scouting director. Those are the advisers that I utilize. But I fully support whatever the Steinbrenner family feels the proper structure needs to be. I think they need to set that up. They need to take care of that themselves, there's no doubt about that." Steinbrenner, in an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday, said: "If Brian stays on as GM, that doesn't mean he won't be the No. 1 guy. But the fact is, the more opinions the better. I think that's probably the best way. It worked in the '90s and it can work again." Of course, it's not clear how much input The Baby Boss actually has in the day-to-day goings-on of the franchise. Hank Steinbrenner mostly has been an unpredictable public speaker and has attended three games this season; his brother Hal actually has been a presence, forging a close working relationship with Cashman. But Hank's bluster could be enough to tip the scales against a return for Cashman. Hank Steinbrenner also said Thursday, "We're going to have to look at what has been done wrong over the last five years, which I've had one year to try and figure out. Clearly, a lot of mistakes were made." Asked if he agrees with that assessment, Cashman said: "I'm not going to comment on it." Cashman has been linked to expected front-office openings in Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington. Asked about those reports, he said: "Obviously, they are just reports. I'm linked here. That's where I'm at. I've got a job and we're dealing with obviously a lot right now. That's the focus. As simple as that."
  23. I'm surprised Castro didn't pull a hammy getting activated.
  24. SNY showed the Piazza home run from September 21 and Keith and Gary start talking about 9/11 in general baseball terms when Keith says that that day has a special place in his house , his wife Kai lost her husband that day , he was with Cantor Fitzgerald. I never knew that.
  25. I've seen him talked up in other places this past week too, I suppose if Delgado is being talked up for MVP then why not Manuel for Manger of the Year.
