  1. The Reds can have their 75 inductess with the history and all but this is where you'd need to be careful witht he Mets and not end up having a bunch of questionable names in there.
  2. I think I would rather keep Pagan that put him in a trade for Jose Guillen, and I'm not hot on Cust but he'd be cheap .
  3. Was Madden ever a good writer? , or maybe I should ask if he was ever a writer to be taken seriously? I know I've read some good stuff from him, maybe stuff regarding the HOF but in recent years he's a hack.
  4. Nothing short of the Wilpons selling the team will please some fans.
  5. I voted four in each group....yes that was me thst voted for Turk......
  6. Yes he was
  7. It says Please vote for four of these dudes
  8. It only lets you select ONE
  9. Come on man....how can I pick four out of that bunch?
  10. It means nothing I'm sure but you never know Heyman in "Around the Majors" Joel Pinero interests the Mets. And it doesn't hurt that Arn Tellem's company reps him (Tellem is close to Mets COO Jeff Wilpon, and the pair made the deal for Francisco Rodriguez last year).
  11. Bill Jmaes rates Martin as one of the players that will do better next season in his Strong Seasons Leading Index with a score of 24.... A score of 24 or higher indicates a better-than 50% chance the player will sustain or improve the following season http://waswatching.com/2009/11/20/thtjames-posada-not-to-match-09-in-10/ I got this form a Davidoff article so thanks Ken Strong Seasons Leading Index It incorporates 1) age, 2) 2009 OPS compared to career OPS; 3) something he calls "Adjusted Ball in Play average," which is like BABIP but gives extra credit to power hitters (since they hit the ball harder, their BABIP is less likely to vary - a pretty cool tweak); 4) comparing a player's 2009 runs scored and RBI to the '08 totals; 5) a player's strikeout/walk ratio in '09; 6) speed, utilizing a formula he designed; and 7) a basic premise that all players' numbers gravitate toward the league average.
  12. An exchange between Ken Davidoff of Newsday and Paul Lukas of Uni Watch Yesterday, I wrote, of the Mets' adding their history to Citi Field: "...in 20 years, are we really going to remember, 'Gosh, the Mets sure botched the opening Citi Field by neglecting to acknowledge their own history'? Or will fans just enjoy the team history?" My buddy Paul Lukas, of the great Uni Watch blog, responded, "True, but it misses the point. Because in 20 years we'll be talking about the latest tone-deaf moves the Mets have made, and the stadium botch will be one of the more prominent entries in the 'Timeline of Mets Management Mistakes' hat we'll all be reading (and writing). The issue isn't whether one isolated incident is a big deal; the issue is that this ownership crew has a demonstrable tendency to mess up the simplest elements of team management. Or to put it another way: How many OTHER teams ran into this problem when opening their new stadiums? Right." Can't argue with that.
  13. Hold on while I go and look for MFS62's previous posts.......you're asking alot there mate
  14. From Carrol's article So, that left a decision between Tim Lincecum, last year's winner, and Wainwright. I called three players and one scout, asking for their opinions. One player hadn't faced Lincecum"lucky break," he saidbut he felt that Lincecum looked more hittable. "I'm still convinced that deception is a big part of what Lincecum does," another said, "and that unless there's a new wrinkle, people are starting to figure him out. He's still good, his [stuff] is still good, but comparing him to Wainwright? Wainwright was just a shutdown guy this year." We'll find out if Lincecum will be "found out" but the comment itself seems odd to me.....hasn't deception been a part of a lot of great pitchers repertoire?
  15. Jesus , Mary and Chirst look what the cat dragged in.
  16. Wainwright, who led the NL with 19 wins and 233 innings, had 12 first-place votes, five seconds and 15 thirds for 90 points. Closer Trevor Hoffman, who finished behind Braves starter Tom Glavine in 1998, is the only other player to finish with the most firsts and not win the award. Two voters, Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus and Keith Law of ESPN.com, did not include Carpenter on their ballots. Carroll had Wainwright in the top spot, Lincecum second and Arizona's Dan Haren third. Law voted for Lincecum, Atlanta's Javier Vazquez and Wainwright in third. Those were the only votes in any position for Haren and Vazquez.

  18. smg58 wrote: Somebody told me that Mike Francesa suggested that the Mets wouldn't have to give up anybody of consequence to get Halladay if they also took Wells. The catch, of course, is that Wells is owed a ridiculous $107M over the next five years and rivals Ollie with his inconsistency. So coupled with an extension for Halladay it would cost $200 to $250 million for that deal......
  19. Heyman saying that Bay declines Boston's offer of four years and close to $60 million , that was never getting it done of course.
