  2. Rosenthal says Heilman agrees with D-Backs with a view to starting . Looking at his B-R page , hasn't started a game since 2005 .

Seems to me to be the kinda player who could be really useful given the right circumstances and opportunity (and also, guidance). I get the feeling managers generally, and Jerry and Willie particularly, prefer their bench jockeys not to need the kind of attention that rookies need. Evans tends to look worried up there, it'd prolly do him a world of good to know someone's got his back. Optimistic 2011 Ripped From the Headlines (Matt Diaz, 2006) 124 G, 62 GS, 7 HR, 15 2B, 32 RBI, 327/.364/.425 // .839 There were times the last few seasons one wondered why he wasn't getting the call up and when he did you wondered why he wasn't being used...a gy with some upside that seems to have gone backwards through no fault of his own I think....
  4. Scott Hairston to the Mets on a minor league deal says Rubin.
  5. I looked not to cheat but I will say this, on April 27th 2009 according to the UMDB the Mets won a game 7-1.
  6. I think she qualifies as hot alright.....
  7. I don't see a path but I do see a yellow brick road lined with $12 million . If he has a good ST maybe someone will take him with the Mets eating a large amount of that money, I just don't see them eating all of it, if they can even get a team to take on a few million then that's something.
  8. The thread title is redundant of course. I think Martin was always a bit of a douchebag, now there is no question.
  9. Old friend Heilman has let it be known that he wants to he a starter.......again /still
  10. Grozelanny to the Nationals, I guess Young probably won't be going there. This trade should be good news for the Mets such as that is.
  11. And Boston has Gonzo, I'd be shocked like everyone I suppose if he doesn't stay in St Louis.
  12. Mu prediction id that he will emerge as the everyday 2nd baseman and will look a steal hitting .282 with 12 home runs and 62 rbi....he will steal 14 bases.
  13. If we got him from Toronto why would we give him back to the Orioles?, seeing if we are paying attention and actually read your posts? It's more than possible that I am in the dark about some rule though.
  14. It would be nice to have a # 3 hitter too and push said lineup down a notch.
  15. Heyman had a tweet the other day saying that Cashman did not want Soriano but was overruled by Steinbrenner, " Cashman the team player went along". No link was provided.
  16. Collins has said that this is his lineup http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/13410/collins-confirms-planned-lineup-bowling-on-tap Terry Collins plans the following lineup, and pledges not to have major day-to-day adjustments Jose Reyes Angel Pagan David Wright Carlos Beltran Jason Bay Ike Davis The Nos. 7 and 8 spots will go to the second baseman and catcher, depending on whom is playing those days Collins confirmed that configuration, which he has floated in the past, during a visit to Port St. Lucie by the Post .
  17. Bruce Chen gets a $2 million one year deal from KC and could rise to $3.5.......Chen actually won 12 games for KC last season to lead the team....the last two seasons were minor league deals with KC....fair fucks to him.
  18. Very cool....see the way Hodges looked after Gentry as he headed for the showers?.....ummmm
  19. MM just explained it in terms I understand......thank you.
  20. Mets sign catcher Raul Chavez. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-yorkmets/post/_/id/13401/mets-ink-catcher-chavez
  21. This thread if anything has complicated WAR, or I should say shows how complicated it is. The great Mets infield of Ordonez, Olerud, Ventura and Alfonzo must have had a great collective WAR?, is that even possible?
  22. Happy Birthday Mike Pelfrey. Thanks to the UMDB which is not broken i just learned that Mike was born at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
  23. I'm in the same boat as Grim.....maybe even more lazy though. I can't even pretend I know enough about it to drop it in conversations.
  24. Good news Santana cleared for throwing Adam Rubin Johan Santana has been cleared by Mets doctors to begin a throwing program leading into spring training. Santana underwent surgery in September to repair a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder. He is not expected to be available to the Mets until June or July. Santana went 11-9 with a 2.98 ERA in 29 starts last season. He was pulled from his final outing on Sept. 2 at Atlanta as a precaution after five innings because he was experiencing tightness. The team originally diagnosed it as a pectoral strain, but an MRI taken a week later, after the Mets returned to New York, revealed the anterior capsule strain. Should be back in time for the pennant push.
  25. Ceetar wrote: And apparently he's not very good defensively either. Those brilliant catches against the Mets notwithstanding , a case of making the spectacular catch because of bad positioning or instincts? A bit like the soccer coach who remarked about one of this players " he covers a lot of the field that fella......only because his first touch is so bad" actual quote He covers every blade of grass out there,But thats only because his first touch is so crap. Southampton manager Dave Jones on Carlton Palmer
