  1. Anyone here about this rumor?]By BOB KLAPISCHSPORTS COLUMNIST The rumor that another major league star has tested positive for steroids is spreading like some Internet virus, only without a patch on the way. It's out there - in chat rooms, blogs, message boards, a tidal wave of gossip so massive that Major League Baseball and the union issued a joint statement this week, telling everyone to stop hyperventilating. The fact that Bud Selig and Donald Fehr, blood enemies, are speaking with one voice tells you how serious this PR crisis has become. Is it true, though? Even the clueless David Wells got a whiff of the scandal. On his Web site, Boomer33.com, the larger than life (and larger than his uniform) lefty writes, "I hear that there is about 58 more guys that have tested positive and if that's true, this game is screwed! Congress will have a field day with it."Exaggeration aside, Boomer actually has a point: The feds are waiting to take control of baseball's steroid-enforcement policy and emasculate Selig Fehr once and for all. Ever since Rafael Palmeiro was accused of lying to Congress, there's been an uneasy feeling among MLB officials that the real trouble has only begun. That's why every rumor, no matter how outrageous or unfair, suddenly has legs. Hopefully the whisperers are wrong. Let's all wish for a better world where 400-foot home runs (and 3,000 hits) are products of old-school virtues like hard work. But if Palmeiro, who had the nerve to shake his finger at Congress while proclaiming his innocence, was really just another scam artist, who can we really trust anymore? Now every ball over the fence is met with raised eyebrows. So are the guys who've kept their best fastballs in a year when radar gun readings are down. That's the poison Palmeiro has unleashed on the sport, casting doubt on everyone else. Not a day goes by lately without some tipster calling a newspaper to swear Barry Bonds or Jason Giambi is going down next.In any other year, perhaps, Giambi's resurrection would've been found on Page 1 of the Never Give Up handbook. Hard work in the weight room, extra time in the batting cages, a positive attitude - that's all it took to rescue his career, right? The purist in all of us wants to believe it. But in this era, it takes more than faith to assume no one's cheating. That's why the rumors are floating over baseball. Maybe there's an inkling of truth to them. Maybe that's why Selig and Fehr are working in concert. Maybe they're running scared, knowing their jobs are on the line if the big leagues are suddenly swamped with suspensions.Congress is warming up for a corporate massacre. Tough guys like Tom Davis and Henry Waxman never will forget they were played for fools by Palmeiro - who, by the way, will now be investigated for perjury. Selig and Fehr could be the next to face the feds' wrath. No wonder everyone's so jittery. No wonder when the commissioner and the union chief start bleating about everyone's innocence, a little voice in our heads says: They doth protest too much.
  2. OK, great post, I saw the game last night and Mitchell was brought up because of the Wright catch, Mitch made a catch somthing like that when playing for the Reds Ted said, at least that's what I think I heard, I coould be wrong. That's when Keith brought up how much the team missed him after he was traded, and how the team was a primarily lefthanded hitting team.I'd love to hear Keith talk more about this, with the numbers you put out it shows maybe Keith was wrong but he was part of the team so if he says the team missed Mitch then I would believe him.Does he mean the team missed him because he was a good teammate or was it all about the numbers, that would be interesting to know.I think you are so right in regards to Keith the broadcaster, I love the fact that he's not your tupical player turned color guy turned cliche guy, just listen to Rick Sutcliffe, he's the worst. Hernandez from what I have read recently likes his life, 50 games is fine with him and doing post season work on MSG where he excels suits his NYC life. I'd love to see Keith teamed with Thom Brennaman on FOX during the Play-Offs, I think they would make a great team, Brennaman IMO is far better than Buck , Hernandez would be great with him. There is no doubt that Hernandez is a fave of the media guys that write about these things, they love him because he's not like the other bullshit artists, the last thing Keith would need though if he got a National gig is for a program director tell him how he should act, that would never work and I hope it would never happen.
  3. I for what ever reason didn't know about the collision until I saw a scroll on ESPN, so I watched the replay of the game and I was shocked,it was just great to see Cameron moving his legs and arms while on the field, get well soon guys.
  4. Yeah the video is crap today, Keith's voice is jumping and the video is stuck, if you can soup tune into TWIB Saturday,no doubt it will be on that.
  5. He's the talk of baseball after that catch, MLB.com had it on yesterday, not today, Mets.com as Edgy says has it today.http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp?c_id=nym
  6. I'm not gay or anything but he looked great in a Mets uni, and yeah he made some good catches.
  7. Doc Tee that's interesting , IIRC AJ Pierzynski was supposedly hated when he was a Giant and guys hated to pitch to him, so went the story anyway.
  8. He can certainly catch the ball, great smile, good looks.
  9. Wright - 4Floyd - 2 Cameron - 2 Cairo - 1 Anderson - 1
  10. Kristin - 5David - 5
  11. Graves of course gives up a hit and the score is 9 -1. DP ball ends the game, great night to be a Mets fan, will the Mets ever get a no hit game?,.
  12. Randa gets a double, the 3rd hit for the Padres, Ross to 3rd, Willie runs from the dugout and pulls Benson for Graves .
  13. Shit, Benson fails in his bid to become the 29th Mets pitcher to throw a one hitter, Ross got a hit, Randa at the dish, Kris looking fot his third career shutout.
  14. Bases juiced for Benson after the walk to Offerman,
  15. David Wright didn't hit for the cycle but gets his 4th hit of the night with a single, Woodie on second base, Piazza hits a DP ball that Randa throws wide to first, Woodie out at 3rd, Wright at 2nd, Piazza at 1st, Cameron brings David home , good night all round.
  16. Benson is brilliant tonight, he has retired sixteen straight Padres since giving up his only hit in the 3rd, and now he walks Green, and then he strikes out Nady, great stuff Kris.
  17. Keith Hernandez is the best, I love when he does games, Benson gets a hit.
  18. Ouch, not cool, why would his parents do that?, baseballreference has him as Kris.http://www.baseballreference.com/b/bensokr01.shtml
  19. I know my 8 for Piazza seems crazy but I have a feeling he might stay, actually 8 is a strong feeling but you never know.
  20. Cameron, Mike - 10Floyd, Cliff - 10Glavine, Tom - 10Looper, Braden - 6Matsui, Kaz - 8Mientkiewicz, Doug - 0Milledge, Lastings - 4Piazza, Mike - 8Seo, Jae Wong - 6Trachsel, Steve - 8
  21. David Wright makes one of the great catches of the year, going back on a pop up he realized that he couldn't make a catch with his glove over his head so he stuck out his hand and made a great grab and then held the ball while falling to the ground, the Padre fans gave him a huge hand, great stuff.
  22. Reminds me of a great song....Cheap Trick..Mother told me, yes, she told me Id meet girls like you.She also told me, stay away, youll never know what youll catch.Just the other day I heard a soldier falling off some indonesian junk thats going round.Mommys alright, daddys alright, they just seem a little weird.Surrender, surrender, but dont give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.Father says, your mothers right, shes really up on things. Before we married, mommy served in the wacs in the philippines. Now, I had heard the wacs recruited old maids for the war.But mommy isnt one of those, Ive known her all these years.Mommys alright, daddys alright, they just seem a little weird.Surrender, surrender, but dont give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.Whatever happened to all this seasons losers of the year? Evry time I got to thinking, whered they disappear? When I woke up, mom and dad are rolling on the couch.Rolling numbers, rock and rolling, got my kiss records out.Mommys alright, daddys alright, they just seem a little weird.Surrender, surrender, but dont give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.Away.Away.Repeat chorus 7xJeez, you only have to repeat the chorus 7 times..
