  1. Yeah Val make yerself useful and do that, finaly someone on the "inside" with a contact, except it's with the freaking Devil Rays...Val can you find out what they want for Baez?
  2. That's a pretty decent article form Goldman, I'm surprised is is form the YES machine. So he writes for Baseball Prospectus too, that explains a lot.
  3. No matter what happens in this game Santana was amazing coming out of the pen.
  4. On October 10, 1973, the New York Mets win their second National League pennant in five years. In the fifth game of the Championship Series, Tom Seaver wins a 5-2 decision over the Cincinnati Reds. Tug McGraw, who inspired the Mets with his Ya Gotta Believe! slogan, picks up the save http://www.baseballhalloffame.com/history/index.htm
  5. Great thread...
  6. ]And Bobby V is also on the Tampa list. There's been some contact although apparently nothing official yet. Oh I don't think that would be a good fit, hasn't the new owner has hired a few Harvard guys to run things?, I just don't see Bobby working with guys like that.
  7. Ed Wade gone as the Phillies GM, Larry Bowa was on the FAN talking about the palyoffs and when asked about Wade said that Cashman was the name being mentioned down there.
  8. From what I have seen of Molina I would love to have him on the Mets,Hernandez failed to impress during the series at Shea, but IIRC he got injured then...plus I think he would be looking for bigger money than Molina, I could be very wrong about that though.
  9. Interesting that both are back in Anaheim , of course it makes perfect sence, but what if this game turned out like the Braves Astros game, now that would have made for some fun.
  10. Cool, I forgot about him, surely this favours the Angels, I hope they have Colon back in Cali sleeping like a baby.
  11. This was a great game, finally the NL playoffs came alive.I'm happy for Wheeler, sucks that the Mets lost that bit of post season history.
  12. So I assume Andre the Giant will pitch for the Angels, who goes for the wankers?, Wang?
  13. That's what I thought edgy until FOX showed the slow-mo, in one still picture it showed Figins on the infield with the ball on the outside of the dirt, Rodriguez was more than half way home, the way I saw it was that if Figgins catches that ball by the time he makes the throw the runner would have been in standing maybe...
  14. Yeah, the Figgins throw it looked like he couldn't get the good grip on the ball, I don't agree with McCarver that if Figgins had cut that LF throw off that he would have had a chance to get the runner,Rodriguez would have been safe IMO. on edit..ESPN tells us that was Als first WS win since he won in relief for Toronto in 93.
  15. Game over, fuck, I hate this shit.....well the Angels will ahve to beat them tomorrow night....damn.....Lieter gets the win.
  16. Vlad is swinging like a mad man, strike 2 on him, not a good series for him.
  17. Top of the order up against Rivera, MFY three outs away form going to Cali.......Rivera gets Figgins..... Dan Shulman is a great radio announcer, love to listen to him.
  18. I never understood the trade Floyd "while he's hot" theory during the season, Cliff played great and put up great numbers and who's to say he won't play 150+ games next season and have better numbers?I know it might seem like folly to expect Floyd to have the same season but I'd keep him, he likes it in NY, likes playing for Willie and he had to have loved the fact that Mets fans loved him this year.....a healthy Floyd is a keeper.
  19. Love the title of the thread, did they have terrible TV commentaters back then like they do now, Chip and Skip are the worst.
  20. ]That's passing on first-round money five times. Usually high first-round money. He must've really liked college or something. Either that or he didn't have an agent, maybe his parents insisted he finish college, but yeah that's some draft history.I doubt that would happen today.
  21. Stuff like this should go in the Rico Brogna thread.
  22. That was a tough game to watch but the result was all that mattered, maybe after tomorow I can enjoy baseball again, go Angels, Jon Miller is a wanker, calling Jeter "Captain Clutch" when he came to bat tonight was just more of the same bullshit, and I hate A-Rod more and more each time I watch him play, his facial expressions after a bad swing or a SO just kill me, like he was hard done by or something......such a flake.
  23. All these awards are bullshit, who in 8 to 10 years will remember the MVP's let alone the "comeback" players.
  24. From the article sharpie posted.. ]Rick Sutcliffe, an analyst who could have made Game 1 of the 1988 World Series sound boring, droned on about how the Braves had won a small victory because the Astros' closer had to start warming up in the bullpen he's the absolute worst, at times Sutcliffe talks so low you'd think he was doing golf commentry.
  25. My general thoughts are that the NL playoffs are garbage, I hate to say that but for whatever reason the AL games are better to watch IMO, it could be because the Padres and Braves are just not that interesting, nor are the Cards and Astros for that matter. I've given this some serious thought and maybe I only enjoy it when the MFY's lose and until they get beaten I can't enjoy the rest of the games, but it can't be just that, the NL games I've watched have been tough to stay tuned into, the White Sox are fun to watch and I'm kinda hoping they have a great run in them but I also hope the Red Sox make it a series.
