  1. That wasn't the final nail in the coffin, but I'm willing to admit that the Nats are definitely laying in that pine box the Mets have been pounding on.
  2. What a game...what a team!
  3. Let's get a couple more runs here!
  4. [bigpurple:3cwl5hft]KIRK!!!!!![/bigpurple:3cwl5hft]
  5. I'm trying to decide how much I trust Addison Reed. That inning didn't hurt.
  6. Just caught up on DVR. I love this fucking team!
  7. I like the four game weekend series in Milwaukee...though I'm not sure that interests anyone but me. I'm planning a trip to NYC in late August or early September, so I'm likely to see one (or more) of the divisional games during the 8/26-9/4 homestand. I'm kinda bummed that both the White Sox and Twins go to Citi this time...I'd travel to either one of those series if the Mets were on the road.

Thus, rather than be under a short-term constraint to decide whether to sign Cespedes as a free agent, the Mets can let the process play out and be like any of the other 29 clubs that can negotiate and sign him at any point this offseason. Holy shit. Yeah, that seems hugely good.
  9. Who is Amanda Hugginkiss? I have a friend who has that for a nickname.
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: In the abstract, I'd love to see him stay but I realize that practical considerations make that impractical. Instead, trade Harvey this winter for the best young slugging outfielder they can get. Put him in the outfield with Conforto and Granderson, with Lagares and Cuddyer in reserve and they'll be in pretty good shape. While I agree with that scenario, a Laggy/Cuddyer reserve would be $15M sitting on the bench most games...so it seem unlikely to me that they will move forward with that strategy. I suppose a lot depends on if/when Laggy gets surgery to help his elbow.
  11. If Harvey and the Mets win today, I'm OK with shutting him down for the rest of the regular season* if it means he could pitch more in an eventual postseason. *Unless the Nats are still hanging around during that last regular season series at Citi (which would become a "postseason" series anyway).
  12. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The fact that the Mets would have to make a preemptive offer is the main thing that makes resigning him more difficult. This is the reason I can't see the Mets pulling it off even if they want to make a legitimate offer. The Mets don't have the luxury of bidding with other teams and having a sense of what his real market value is to those teams. They essentially have to blow Cespedes away and make him think that no other team is going to offer as much as the Mets are wanting to give him. It's going to be hard (and expensive) to make Cespedes bite. Too expensive for my liking.
  13. Clippard should be #43, too. According to UMDB, the Mets have never had a #65 with the big club. On edit: #46...shows what I know.
  14. Verrett, Monell and Herrera are going back up to the big club now that Vegas' season is done. I'm guessing Verrett will take the missed Harvey starts. It should be interesting to see if Terry uses Monell to catch on Matz' days. I think I heard the booth say yesterday that Monell caught both of the Matz games earlier in the season.
  15. This is just asking for heartbreak. Please don't.
  16. There's no way the Mets would or could have come back to win this game during April, May, June and most of July. What a turn around for this team! I have watched 90% of the Mets' games this year and I really didn't think it was possible back then that they could play as well as they have the last several weeks. I was wrong. What a game. LGM!

My neighbor came to the door and bothered me. What'd Ronnie say? Something about Mexican pitchers having a good breaking ball to rely on. He did preface the statement by saying he did not mean it to be stereotypical.
  18. 7th inning relief? No big deal.
  19. If you're in the box, be ready to hit. It's pretty simple.

  21. How about a couple more runs? LET'S GO METS!
  22. I dislike the "Let's go, Nats!" chant. F for originality.
