  1. Bunt single: the speciality of any #3 hitter.
  2. Hmmm...were going to need more than a couple runs today.
  3. I personally think he is what he is and 2 weeks at AAA is not going to further his development any further. He played 50-some games last year in the outfield without making a huge ass of himself. Additionally, is he really going to be the long-term solution in left field for us? IMO, either he will vie with Evans for first base next season or he will be traded and his defense (3B, OF, elsewhere) will be someone else's problem.
  4. Stealing from the ESPN article about Ollie: "I think it's important, him being one of my guys, that I give him every benefit of the doubt," Manuel said. I agree that this is not the Manuel that impressed me for the last half of last season. I miss the sense of urgency that he managed with last season. He seemed to be the anti-Willie...which is what the Mets needed. But he is dangerously closer to Willie now IMO, at least strategy-wise.
  5. Maine 4 Santos 3 Wright 1 Castillo 1 Sheffield 1
  6. I say this with very cautious optimism...Maine looks pretty good tonight.
  7. Congrats to Santos....first ML HR and RBIs on a grand slam.
  8. I was sooo wrong. Outfield defense has become a major concern for me. What a fuck-up-fest leftfield has become.
  9. Update per Metsblog: Carlos Delgado is a late scratch from tonights lineup with pain in his hip. Instead, Tatis will start at first base, with Luis Castillo starting at second. I guess Sheff bats cleanup now? Oh, Maine...you best be at your best tonight.
  10. metirish wrote: WTF is it with Ramon Castro , three games in a row that Santos is starting, is Castro injured ? I think he just sucks. I don't think he's very valued in the organization and they are giving Santos every opportunity to win the backup catcher position for when Schneid comes back this weekend.
  11. Per Metsblog: Fernando Tatis will bat second and start at second base tonight, while Gary Sheffield will bat sixth and start in left field for Daniel Murphy. Omir Santos will once again start at catcher and bat eighth.
  12. I don't care. The one I'm most concerned about is the theoretical 2009 banner.
  13. Here's to 9 in a row for the Fishies!
  14. That was the most runs we've scored in a loss, so this one is clearly on the pitching. To be fair, I'm not ready to start panicing and asking the Pedro/Garcia/Redding questions yet. This was our 5th starter going up against one of the (if not THE) most potent offenses in the NL. The one thing I can take from this game is that at least the offense came to life somewhat. Only 3 LOB with 2 out and RISP (2 by DWright). I'd like to return the sweep favor to WASH over the weekend starting with a win tomorrow. It's way too early to panic, but a loss tomorrow would be far more devastating than a win would be helpful. In other words, tomorrow is a must win IMO. Our ace against the worst team in the league provides no excuses. The Mets haven't been 4 games under .500 since late 2005. We need the W tomorrow or else we're there.
  15. A 4 or 5 run rally would be nice here.
  16. Carlos digs into the lead with a 3 run jack. Only down 4 now.
  17. I thought Green was supposed to be good. Did someone piss in his Cheerios this morning?
  18. I hat baseball.
  19. Yeah...none of the facets of our game look very good today. But, hey, no errors yet.
  20. Matt Stairs with a PH solo HR with one out in the 8th ruins the no-no and the shutout. Brewers still lead 6-1.
  21. He grounded out to the bullpen.
  22. Another 2 out RISP RBI. Reyes' single makes it closer.
  23. Philly wiith no hits through 7 now. Bush has walked 3 and plunked 2...but is 6 outs from history.
