  1. GROUND ZERO! Mets, behind three DP's, blank Phils for 3d straight game!
  2. Who can Top this Act? Johan Can! The JoePet:

  4. Stargell just missed two MVP awards as a left fielder.
  5. Never mind. Today felt like Friday to me all day long.
  6. Anyone know why Santana's not pitching tomorrow on four days rest, just like Pelfrey pitched today?
  7. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Oly and Keith. In that order. This belongs in the 3B thread but I'm telling it to you that I'm voting for Red Garrett and Robin Ventura.
  8. The Braves close out Fla. Here are the current NL East standings:
  9. Pelf moves into the NL top ten in ERA; seven shutout innnings lowers his to 2.54; he's 10th with a bullet.
  10. The Mets climb to third place in the tight as a sardine can NL East. Braves lead Fla. by five in the ninth. The Mets are suddenly two games behind the Phillies and two games out of the Wild Card spot.
  11. Some ballgame. Some series. The Mets will win the pennant!
  12. Give Manuel credit last inning for not bunting with the #2 spot hitter with Utley and Howard to follow. I'm obviously talking about Charlie.
  13. top ten, in terms of nleasterly WAR, as per fangraphs 62.1 Ozzie Smith, STL 35.3 Jimmy Rollins, PHI 27.4 Gene Alley, PIT 25.9 Hanley Ramirez, FLA 24.2 Buddy Harrelson, NYM/PHI 23.5 Jay Bell, PIT/NYM 22.9 Jose Reyes, NYM 22.7 Larry Bowa, PHI/CHI/NYM 17.8 Rafael Furcal, ATL 17.4 Garry Templeton, STL Gene Alley better than HanRam? This does not compute -- not by any measure. That has to be Alley's career, rather than his NL East years. gene alley played all 11 years with the pirates. Yeah, but there was no NL East prior to the 1969 season. Alley's NL East WAR is 5.3. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1000160&position=SS
  14. Rockin' Doc wrote: I went with Ozzie and Reyes. Hanley Ramirez is off to a tremendous start, but he hasn't done it long enough (yet) so he finishes third on my ballot. How much longer than Hanram d'ya think Reyes was doing it?

He appeared in 72 games in 1970 and 39 games in 1971, his final season -- and pre Mendoza line sub Mendoza-line at that. Kong76 wrote: Yeah, I already admitted I messed up ... thanks for piling on. I messed up, too. My message should've been posted in the First Base thread.

  18. When Kingman first signed with the Cubs, he had asked for --and received-- a lucrative incentive bonus should he break the Cubs all-time single season record for RBI's. Kingman was elated and privately thought that he had snookered the Cubs. Moreover, Kingman couldn't understand why the Cubs were so eager and willing to include the perk in Kong's contract. Kingman thought that the Cubs simply folded on that clause. He had absolutely no idea that the Cubs RBI record was also the MLB all-time record --- 190 RBI's (Hack Wilson, 1930).
  19. Mets On Pace for Second Place (Wins by the Mets and Marlins tonight will do it) Mike is our Mad Dog.
