  1. Was leading Dwight Gooden (7.78 K/9 inn.) in K/9 inn as a Met until his last two outings. Maine finishes with 7.75 K/9 inn. Am surprised that it was even this close.

I came on board for the '70 season, so the '76 squad was the best I'd ever seen, to date. Mickey Lolich was their 4th pitcher. He pitched considerably better than his 8-13 W-L record would indicate. The '76 Mets probably had the best starting rotation in all of baseball. Koosman won 20 and Kingman was threatening Maris' HR record until he injured himself.
  7. I was going to write: "No Mets baseball card for Josh Stinson". But I checked out check out my cards and looky here:

  9. Investors are betting against the Mets. excerpts: Banks that provided roughly $400 million in loans to the New York Mets are starting to unload some of that debt at a discount, a sign that creditors are getting nervous about the team's finances, the New York Post reported Thursday. Potential buyers are bidding around 90 cents on the dollar for the debt, sources said. At least one creditor has bought a debt slice at a discount with the approval of Major League Baseball, which must sign off on any buyer of the team's loans, said one source. "This tells me the original lenders are scared," a source close to the situation said. One source said MLB is holding up trading in the loans because of concerns that vulture investors will snap up the debt and force the team into bankruptcy just like they did last year to the Texas Rangers. Meanwhile, the Citi Field bonds, whose debt is already rated "junk," are starting to trade at prices that also indicate trouble in the mid-60-cent range, said one source. The Wilpon-family-owned Queens Ballpark Corp. pays the interest on the bonds to the New York City Industrial Development Agency, which owns Citi Field. If the Wilpon family fails to make payments, the city is not on the hook to pay bondholders, sources said. The Mets, including the stadium debt, owe lenders more than the $850 million that sources believe the team is worth.
  10. A little more detail. "Do you know who I am, you don't know anything about my problems," Miguel Cabrera is quoted as saying. A deputy reported Cabrera was put in handcuffs after not following orders. Cabrera also "kept running out in the road with his hands up." A deputy asked Cabrera to get his a patrol vehicle, and he said, "(Expletive) you." Deputy subdues Cabrera Miguel Cabrera pushed off a vehicle into a deputy, who "delivered 3-4 knee spikes" into Cabrera's left thigh. In addition to the DUI charge, Miguel Cabrera faces two misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer without violence. Sheriff's officials also issued Cabrera a citation for open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Miguel Cabrera, who bats and throws right handed, refused to take a breath test. A DUI case report lists Miguel Cabrera's attitude as belligerent, cocky, combative and argumentative. I'm thinking that Miguel's auto mechanic ought to go into hiding until this blows over.

Loses another mile or two per hour off his fastball (he lost about three by the middle of his first year as a Met) -- and suddenly, his changeup is very hittable ... no longer dominant. Was so good as a Twinkie, that even at 90 or 80% of what he was at his peak, he was still one of the NL's best pitchers over the last three years. Yeah, next: He's just not commonly referred to as such today as shown here and elsewhere, much of what we read seems to assume he'll go back to being Johan Santana, and on schedule, upon his return. I don't have any expectations of any pitchers coming off shoulder surgery. If he wins 5 games this year I'll be mildly surprised. We're on the same page. I'd probably change "next" to "now". Three straight season ending surgeries. He'll be 32 next month. Johan should go bionic. Is that still $6M? He can afford to.

  19. Who's Boof Ricciardi? If this is slang for Boof Bonser, I'm guessing Jason Tyner and Joe Mauer. If it's Ricciardi, I go with Jay Tibbs, Billy Beane, Jose Oquendo and Herm Winningham.
