  1. Career 1. 2. Darryl Strawberry: 34.4 WAR, 4549 PA 3. Carlos Beltran: 30.2, 3640 4. 5. 6. 7. Mike Piazza: 22.8, 3941 8. 9. 10. xxx 15. McReynolds Beltran: 33% more WAR than Piazza, in less plate appearances. I now know that these numbers represent total and not just offensive WAR.
  2. I'll go with Gilkey96 if it's single seaon WAR; Wright for career. Are you looking for single season WAR or career WAR?
  3. Here we go: Baseball America's Top 20 in 2001 Check out some of these names. Lots of hits, but also some complete whiffs and in-betweens too. 1. Josh Hamilton, of, Devil Rays 2. Corey Patterson, of, Cubs 3. Josh Beckett, rhp, Marlins 4. Jon Rauch, rhp, White Sox 5. Ben Sheets, rhp, Brewers Rauchie's in every thread, today.
  4. Single season or career? Not that Piazza wouldn't make either of those lists. If single season, do you want the year, too?

Maybe it was Lisa Marie. I just remembered that this dining experience occurred in the Fall of '93, not '90, as I wrote initially.

  7. Vic Sage wrote: i like Petrossian. The babe was probably Lisa Marie, a young model who was his girfriend in 1992. She appeared in a few of his early films, up through PLANET OF THE APES, when he met HBCarter. Maybe. But I'm talking Fall, 1990. She was noticeably younger than Burton, although Burton, in 1990 wasn't that old. (Neither was I).
  8. I sat next to Tim Burton's table (for two) at Petrossian's about 20+ years ago. The tables there are packed so tightly that I was closer to Burton than I was to my dinner-mate. He was in town for the NY Film Festival. His babe was hot.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Your point is obviously correct, but Rauch's official height is 6'11". So until you can do your measurin', Rauch is officially the guy. I coulda sworn he was listed at 6'10". Musta grown an inch on our watch.
  10. Wouldnt'a surprised me in the least if it turned out that the governemnt eminent domained that prime land, then gave it to the Wilpons for practically nothing so that they, of all people, of all groups, could operate a casino in New York fucking City.
  11. I'd like for Rauch, Chris Young and Eric Hillman to stand back to back to back so I can measure them to determine who is really the tallest Met ever. Because I doubt that they're all precisely 6'10" tall. Did you ever buy a shoe that doesn't fit? And did you have to wear that shoe for more than a day to figure out that the shoe doesn't fit? Thus putting enough wear and tear on the shoe to render it unreturnable? Because who says everyone's foot measures out in precise half inch increments? What if your shoe size is exactly 10 and five eights inches? Or ten and three quarter inches?
  12. City Dismisses Talk of a Willets Point Casino By CHARLES V. BAGLI Published: February 5, 2013 A crumbling industrial area near Citi Field in Queens has been viewed by Las Vegas gambling companies, an Indian tribe, developers and even some elected officials as a likely location for a casino resort, if the state legalizes full-scale gambling. But the Bloomberg administration on Tuesday tried to put an end to the speculation, insisting that there will never be a casino at the Willets Point area, where it hopes instead to develop new housing, shopping and entertainment venues. Last June, the city selected the Queens Development Group a joint venture of Related Companies and Sterling Equities, the developer and the owners of the Mets to build a 1.4-million-square-foot retail and entertainment mall, a 200-room hotel and shops next to the Citi Field stadium, at Willets Point. There is no casino being built at Willets Point, period, said Julie Wood, a spokeswoman for Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. Officials also said that the current zoning at Willets Point, as well as an environmental review, would not permit a casino. The agreement with the Queens Development Group to clean up and transform this long blighted area into a dynamic, mixed-use district expressly prohibits any gaming uses, said Nick Kelly, a spokesman for the citys Economic Development Corporation. After Mr. Bloomberg leaves office at years end, his successor could move in favor of a casino project. But it would require a lengthy public review and an environmental assessment. In any case, the city has been awash with speculation about potential casino sites every since Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced plans a year ago to legalize full-scale casinos in New York. Currently, the state has five Indian-run casinos, all upstate, and limited electronic gambling at nine racetracks, including Aqueduct in Queens. Last month, the Assembly speaker, Sheldon Silver, said for the first time that he would consider a Las Vegas-style casino in New York City, citing possible locations at Willets Point, Coney Island and Aqueduct. In recent months, MGM Resorts and Las Vegas Sands have explored Willets Point as a possible location for a multibillion-dollar casino-resort. At the same time, the recently created Dont Gamble on Our Community coalition, which includes elected officials and some community groups, planned a rally Wednesday to oppose a casino development at Willets Point. The citys no casino declaration came on the heels of reports that Related, Sterling Equities, a casino operator (Gateway Casino Resorts) and the Shinnecock Indian Nation had submitted a lengthy proposal to the city in September 2011 to build a world-class casino, hotel, retail and entertainment destination at Willets Point. The developers offered to pay $100 million for 61.4 acres of city-owned land. The proposal was given to reporters by opponents to the citys project, Willets Point United and NYC Park Advocates. City officials and the Queens Development Group say that the proposal was immediately rejected by the Bloomberg administration. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/06/nyregion/no-chance-for-casino-in-willets-point-queens-city-says.html?_r=0

  15. Ceetar wrote: The team is budgeting each year individually, not spending this years money on next year, or next year's money on this year. That is Alderson's thing, and when he says it's his financial decision, that's what he means. He's not going to outspend revenue. Sandy always tells the truth. Everything he's ever said about Mets spending and Mets payroll has always come true. Sandy hasn't devolved into a fucking mouthpiece for the Wilpons. That scoreboard out in center field is a beaut.
  16. Oh brother. Another Fuck the Wilpons thread this has turned into. And they don't deserve any of the criticism. Jeez, can't anybody here write a dozen posts about how the Mets are gonna sign a Justin Upton caliber baller?
  17. Lyon's not that bad. But the Mets'll be lucky to win 75 games next season, with or without Lyon. Might as well spend the money on a scoreboard that isn't an embarrassing eyesore.
  18. I had Vida Blue running away with [ROY] in the A.L., unaware he was not eligible. Around that time, but at least one year after your school essay, Sports Phone's Quickie Quiz of the Day asked its' callers to identify the youngest Cy Young Award winner ever. It's currently Doc Gooden but at the time of that quiz, the correct answer was Vida Blue for his spectacular '71 season. When Sports Phone revealed that Dean Chance was the youngest CYA winner, I called in to correct them (after not getting initial credit for my right answer). I still remember that episode. A National story: cover illustration by country's then top commercial artist Bob Peak, at his peak
  19. I remember watching a Mets-Phillies game in 1971 when the Mets announcers were high on Willie Montanez as that season's likely ROY. Also, it was rumored that the Mets-Braves trade that would eventually send Felix Millan to the Mets would also include an exchange of catchers Williams and Jerry Grote.

  23. Made 1962 Topps history, per MGIM. Bouchee certainly was not the best of the 1962 Mets, appearing in only 60 games and batting just .161. But his card is historic, marking the first time the Mets full uniform appeared in a Topps set. Since the team was new , Topps relied heavily on its big head, no hat shots for Mets that year. Only two players, who appeared in a later series, are shown wearing the beautiful Mets uniform. Don Zimmer, who lasted just 14 games, is wearing his Mets cap. But Bouchee has the only card showing a whole uniform. The only four Topps cards from the Mets inaugural season to display the Mets uniform, in whole or in part (or two cards, depending on your definition of "Mets card"): As noted above. A rare shot of Bouchee, not because he's clad in '62 era Mets garb, but because he's clad in any garb at all. Baseball bat as phallic symbol? I wouldn't have asked if it was any other '62 Met. Still, that's some wood. Al Jackson, the littlest original Met, and the cheapest to outfit on a per square inch of material basis. Don Zimmer, who, according to Don Zimmer, was the first Met ever to wear and be photographed in a Met uni. Plausible story. Probably true. Bobby Gene Smith. Barely mentioned in Ryczek's book. And Koppett's The New York Mets has no index. I think that The Monkees wrote a song about him. First Met to hit a triple.
