  1. What does a second string catcher need to do to get somebody's attention over here? [fimg=623]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zEzpLn3nx9Q/T57zhDDDmSI/AAAAAAAAaFk/zdR7uLxKXOE/s1600/canizzaro++(5).JPG[/fimg]

  8. ^That would be Wilmer Vinegar Bend Mizell. Mizell pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the New York Mets before entering Congress, where he led the Republicans to victory six times in the annual Congressional Baseball Game. This quiz is for Batmags only: Who are these Met players and what's going on there? For one zillion extra points, name the two businessmen. That's Bosch, Stahl, Harrelson, Reynolds and Haddix. The execs are Bill Groome and W. Page Thompson, who are present in conjunction with the Woman's Day magazine Mets Sweater Promo of 1967. I have that picture. I was saving it for a rainy day. I'll give you a chance to get back the zillion points you owe me: What color is Larry Stahl's sweater. I owe you a clapper for Mizell, which I'll withhold until this business about the zillion points is resolved.
  9. Who is this one-time Met with no respectable Topps Mets baseball card?
  10. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Yes, both. Or anything else. From what I've read, those omissions were deliberate. The thinking was that properly explaining the frauds would bog down the film's flow. I tend to agree with that. I've seen my share of Wall Street TV documentaries on Wall Street scams and American Greed type shows and the frauds are never explained properly. I'm always left with more questions than answers.

  15. Me and You and a Dog Named Pucci*: * That's "Pucci". Like the designer. Not "Poochie". Like the dog.
  16. Howd'ya know that was Williamsburg?
  17. Having never been to either the Basketball or Football Halls of Fame, I can't figure out what your trying to say, or what those pictures depict. OE -- OK. I see that the football HOF'er busts are logoless. Head shots. That's probably so because a football helmet would obscure the HOFers' facial features ... not some compromise related to the teams each HOF'er played for.

Because, what if I was hosting dinner for three? I can't be the only one drinking out of a Dugout mug.
  19. This business with the which cap on the plaque is so antiquated. And stupid. Players like Greg Maddux have to make a zero sum choice between teams that they've played on for significant portions of their careers and made meaningful contributions to their history. Why not ditch the plaques for some computerized plasma screen for each player? With changing images. Depicting the HOF'er in every phase of his career. So that his whole career is represented?
  20. Even Woody's biggest fans began losing interest in his movies over the last 10 years or so, typically beginning with The Curse of the Jade Scorpion, the movie that came after Small Time Crooks.

  22. Okay. HLR isn't a stat. But isn't calling a reliever an HLR kind of like calling a batter a clutch hitter?

Like, forget that far-reaching, life-ruining stuff.... ! Are you referring to the film's failure to explain the nuts and bolts of the stock frauds perpetrated? Or that the film ignored the POV of the victims? Or both. Or something else.
  25. But is the stat measuring a repeatable skill, or randomness? It's the bullpen version of clutch hitting, isn't it?
