  2. Centerfield wrote: Most enjoyable game of the season last night. Beat me by about an hour. I was just gonna write the same thing. So where did this deGrom kid come from? And who was the last pitcher to have so much hair overflowing out the back of his baseball cap, 'cause I can't remember.
  3. How'd that kitty kat get on top of the Empire State Building?
  4. Ceetar wrote: Mets OF is 14th in fWAR,wRC+, Tied for 17th in wOBA, 17th in OPS, and 15th in ISO. So uh, pretty middle of the road there. Problem solved. Move along. No need to look here. Nothing to see. Now let's win those 90 games Sandy said we could win.
  5. Ya mind if I congratulate myself over here just a little bit? From the Predict the Mets thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20976&hilit=predict batmagadanleadoff wrote: Wanna know what I'm guessing is gonna be the the Mets biggest hole this season? Not shortstop. Not Duda and/or Davis. Not the bullpen. The outfield. It'll suck big time and Sandy'll be asking "What outfield?" again, by the all-star break. Of course, I dissed Marlon Byrd big-time around this time last year. So just ignore this post, unless it turns out to be correct. I know it's only half a season and the Mets OF sucktitude is due in good part to Grandy's feeble April and Grandy's been raking it ever since like he's suddenly Reggie Jackson and these are the '70's, but half a season is half a season. It counts for half of the season. Why a fella could even get selected to the All Star Game for nothing more than having a pretty good half a season. chest pounding self-congratulatory gif (Gorilla not to be confused with the Not So Mighty Chris Young, who might still suck enough to cancel Grandy's Reggie impersonation).
  6. Most career hits for the Mets among players who never appeared in a World Series as a Met. The first time this list was posted, in 2012, Murph wasn't in the top 10. 1. David Wright 1648 2. Jos Reyes 1300 3. Carlos Beltran 878 4. Kevin McReynolds 791 5. Daniel Murphy 761 6. Rey Ordez 720 7. John Stearns 695 8. Hubie Brooks 640 9. Todd Hundley 612 10. Dave Magadan 610 11. 7. Anyone paying attention to yesterday's posts should've gotten this one.
  8. If I wasn't wasting time with the cards, I might get one in on time.
  9. I don't know if I'm spelling it right, but Gl@v*ne.
  10. Mickey, Willie and The Dook, minus Mickey.
  11. The Mets are overloaded with all-stars this season.
  12. G-Fafif wrote: Benitez in '03 was super token. I should've remembered. That was the year Benitez kind of imploded at the end of his Mets run. I was at one of AB's last games as a Met, where he walked four batters and threw a wild pitch all in the 9th inning to blow a save against the MFY's. The Mets lost that one. I felt bad for the guy, watching that meltdown.
  13. Gwreck wrote: batmagadanleadoff wrote: *And it's been a long time, I think, since the Mets had one of those every team's gotta have at least one all star pick. Armando Benitez, 2003 was the last true "token" representative. Depends on how you define "All-Star". I thought Armando was a star reliever for most of his Mets stint. I thought he was a deserving AS selection from the moment he passed Franco on the team depth chart, but had gotten passed for the AS team every other year prior to 2003. I didn't research your token list, but if I hadda guess off the top of my head, I woulda guessed that Stearns was probably the last Mets all-star to get selected because some Met hadda get picked.
  14. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Did Joel Youngblood lead the league in hits? I don't know what got into me. Murph's no worse than the third best second baseman in the NL so far, after about half a season. Murph might even be the second best second baseman in the NL this half season. That's a lot more deserving than Youngblood's all-star selection. Apologies. Really. Your wish is still my command.
  15. If Murph was a friend of mine, I'd congratulate him and be happy for him. Sincerely, I would. (And do you got any extra tickets to the ASG. And plane fare to Minnesota, Mr. Murphy?) But because I don't know Murph personally and I'm in cranky Met fan mode, I'll just say that this is a Joel Youngblood pick. The Mets had to have a representative.* This team blows. *And it's been a long time, I think, since the Mets had one of those every team's gotta have at least one all star pick.
  16. Zvon wrote: Looking at other versions I'm going to say that it's not the white-lightgreen early '67 wall. How would you even be able to tell? That sliver of green just over Fisher's right shoulder -- that's padding, right? Thus it's not even a clue -- right? Or am I missing something?
  17. Is that the old Polo Grounds beer sign behind Dillon? There's a website called When Topps Had Balls. Great site. The guy makes custom cards and talks about actual cards. His recent post talks about Jack Fisher's 1970 Topps card. Now he is curious as to what uni Fisher was wearing. He notes that Jack had not played for the Mets in '68 and '69. He says he's pretty sure that's an airbrushed Mets uni, tho it's possible it could be a pinstriped White Sox one. Now we all know that's Shea in the backround, and that pretty much clinches the Met theory. But is that the light-green fence in the bottom corner? If it is I can tell him that the photo was taken during the first week of the 1967 season. I really can't tell for sure. http://whentoppshadballs.blogspot.com/2014/07/random-quickie-1970-jack-fisher-684.html?showComment=1404674830284#c1673168575863347960 I Was a Mets Wolf for Three Straight Years for Three Different Teams: Dillon's '64 rookie card photo was shot at the Polo Grounds. But a part of the Shea scoreboard is visible in Locke's photo. Fisher's gotta be in a Met uniform. Pinstripes at Shea on a 1970 card = Mets uniform.
  18. Vic Sage wrote: so did [name removed], or the Mets, contact us to get the references to her name and likeness taken down, or was that just our administrators using their own good judgment? The administrators. And not a moment too soon. The FBI and the NSA was probably about to take jurisdiction of this matter. Vic Sage wrote: either way, i'm sorry i mentioned it in the first place. I wasn't trying to hold her out to ridicule. just the team. Pretty soon, those posts'll start disappearing, too.
