  4. Some mad posing action on the diamond at Butterball Field. Roger Craig practices his pitching poses for the photographer behind him. Could that be The Man From Topps himself about to shoot an unidentified Met on the dirt infield?

Last name Morales? You get a small clapper because you couldn't remember Morales's first name. [fimg=90]http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y35/wh1pst1ckag0st0p/Animated%20Gifs/FuturamaApplause.gif[/fimg] In 1980, Lee Mazzilli led the Mets in games played both at first base and in center field. Nine other Mets also played those positions that season. (Two of them, like Maz, played both first and center. Name the nine. One guess per post.
  8. Who am I? I'm the first ever Who Am I to appear in a Met uniform in this thread. I'm the first Met ever to appear near the famed Sadecki Spot this year, in this thread. I'm the first ever Who Am I to appear in this thread this year without a cap. Boy that's a lot of first evers in this post. I'm not Andy Messersmith. And I'm not Johnny Bench. So sue me". I am Les Rohr. Les Rohr: first pitcher ever selected in the history of the amateur draft.

[fimg=280]https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7423/16516006346_cb3052d2e3_o.jpg[/fimg] We're looking for someone who first signed with the Mets and never played for the Tigers. Not enough of a hint?

  13. Aren't you in favor of the Mets retiring Carter or Hernandez's numbers?
  14. I get what you mean about the slippery slope up there in The Bronx over retiring uniform numbers, but Pettitte's probably not the poster boy for any of that. He'll deservedly get Hall of Fame votes and if his Yankee career was instead, as a Met, he'd be the franchise's second best pitcher all-time (career, not peak).
  15. Only stolen base champ not named Reyes in Mets history. Course, we need to count his Colorado steals in order to award him the crown. He seemed major league in every way put the production. Counted himself as a Mets fan and a son of Jersey, at least lip service-wise. Best EY line I've ever read (not mine) paraphrased: "How can a player who never gets on base lead the league in stolen bases"?
  16. Mike "The Puma" Puma explains Why the 2015 season could be make-or-break year for Mets.... and includes this observation, about the David Wright re-signing (the first time I've ever read this in the mainstream press): If the Mets had gone for a straight rebuild following general manager Sandy Aldersons arrival four years ago, they would have allowed Wright to become a free agent 15 months ago, pocketing the compensatory draft pick, and almost certainly wouldnt have signed Granderson before last season, when it was obvious the team was wasnt yet ready for playoff contention.... But straight rebuilding a word Alderson never has used throughout his tenure hasnt been an option for a franchise trying to convince fans it can compete for the playoffs every year and, yes, buy tickets now. It has left the Mets somewhere between rebuilt from within and the veteran-laden group Alderson inherited upon his arrival Me personally, I thought that the Mets shouldn't have re-signed Wright even before they re-signed him. My speculation is that this move was forced on Alderson from on up above. Alderson, especially, would know from first hand experience that when you have a payroll as puny as the Mets payroll, nobody, not even Mickey Mantle, should be getting 20-25% of the whole nut. This also led me to question, as H. Megdal also writes, if the Mets are even being truthful with Alderson about their payroll budget.

  20. When're you gonna stop making up these guys? I haven't heard of any of them yet.
  21. I also agree on the strong possibility he'll do something wildly hurtful to the 2015 Mets. aka: the Willie Harris factor - only in reverse as we obtained Willie after he had burned us several times. Nothing in reverse about Willie Harris's Mets stint. In a Mets uniform, Harris continued to burn us.
