  1. Why does every home game IGT say "Home Opener"? How many home openers are there?
  2. The Bobblehead Museum at Marlins Park features seven Ichiros. Which one's your fave? [fimg=944:1kuttymp]https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7613/17168728791_07acec049d_o.jpg[/fimg:1kuttymp]

Wright initially thought he could remain in the game, unless he was macho posing. I know from my ordinary experiences, (and you may not know this, but I'm not no $15M a year MLB all-star,) those injuries are a lot worse after I wake up the next day.
  6. Wright was running 3-2, with presumably the expectation that Duda would be protecting the strike zone and therefore protecting him. When Duda took a hittable slider, Wright was suddenly on his own, and Duda's take job and Galvis' late coverage put all sorts of weird improvisations into Wright's slide as he attempted to get into that base. Still, I thought he hurt an ankle or knee or something. A hammy is usually a running injury, not a sliding one. Wright probably injured himself way before he even began to slide. Wright said he felt something in his hamstring while running towards second. From the New York Post: Wright will undergo an MRI exam Wednesday morning to see how serious the injury is, but Collins sounded convinced Wright would land on the disabled list. Wright injured himself stealing second base in the eighth inning. Wright said he felt it a few feet before he reached the base. He initially stayed in the game after talking to the trainers, but motioned to come out a few pitches later. http://nypost.com/2015/04/14/wrights-injury-dampens-mets-wild-win-in-harveys-citi-return/

  8. In Mad Men’s second half of the seventh season premiere (S. 7 E. 8), April 6, 2015, Joan Harris is seen reading the May 1970 issue of McCall’s, with Tom and Nancy Seaver on the cover. Implicit in that development is Matt Weiner time-jumped from July 21, 1969, to the final week of April 1970, meaning my extensive collection of "Mets win the World Series and Don takes Sally to the ticker-tape parade" fan fiction is for naught. slate.com: The mustaches [on the second half of the Mad Men seventh season premiere] are a reminder of how much time has passed since the last episode … Matthew Weiner: … Although they practically sprung up overnight. I don’t know if people are aware of the time passage between episodes, but we made it exactly the amount of time we were off the air: We left off in July of 1969, and we come back in April of 1970. What’s happened in the culture during that time is that the hippie aesthetic that’s been going on since 1966 has reached its way to the masses. http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2015/04/06/mad_men_season_premiere_matthew_weiner_explains_the_meaning_of_season_7.html
  9. metirish wrote: Dope , as Darling said on air " a very selfish thing to do". If selfish means that the player cares more about his own personal standing in the game (i.e., his salary and stats) instead of his team's standings, then my guess is that practically all players are selfish. They're just not dumb enough to admit it. Not even Daniel Murphy. MLB is a game only to the fans. The players are ruthless businessmen just like the owners.

  11. New Met Michael Cuddyer gets on the Harvey bandwagon. For extra credit, locate where Cuddyer offends one of his current teammates. New Met Michael Cuddyer buying into the Matt Harvey hype BY Kristie Ackert NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Thursday, April 9, 2015, 11:21 PM WASHINGTON Michael Cuddyer noticed that Matt Harvey was a very confident young pitcher when he faced him two years ago. Thursday, the veteran outfielder said that he has really grown to like his new teammate, who is now the Mets ace. But Cuddyer had to laugh a little about the hype surrounding what has come to be called Harvey Day. Ive never seen a pitcher have his own day when he pitched, the new Mets left fielder said with a chuckle. I think its a combination of a lot of things: obviously his talent, the success he has had quickly and, well, he kind of likes it. Its different, the buzz, the veteran outfielder said. I played obviously with Johan (Santana in Minnesota), a two-time Cy Young winner, and should have been three-time Cy Young, and everybody was excited when he pitched, but the level wasnt quite this. I dont know if its New York compared to Minnesota, but hey, baseball is fun. You are supposed to have fun, so I kind of like it, too. Cuddyer got his first RBI as a Met on Thursday in their 6-3 win over the Nationals. Cuddyers RBI single in the third contributed to a four-run inning. He said he liked playing behind Harvey. Hes a lot of fun to play behind; theres definitely a buzz, Cuddyer said. I like him . . . a lot. I like his persona on the field. I like his demeanor, I noticed that as a visiting player first, but its a calm confidence. He doesnt show anybody up. He is not egotistical. But when he is out there you know he feels like he is in control. Its a calm confidence. With a four-run lead, Terry Collins handed the ball to interim closer Jeurys Familia in the ninth inning just to give him a chance to get comfortable. Hes got to get used to being out there in the ninth inning, Collins said. I dont care what the score is. I told (pitching coach Dan Warthen) hes got to pitch tonight. It was a rocky beginning for Familia, who normally pitches the eighth inning. He gave up a leadoff double to Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond and then a two-out single to Reed Johnson to score Desmond. He finally closed the door by getting Michael Taylor to fly out to center. Familia will get the majority of closing calls while Jenrry Mejia is out with inflammation in his elbow. Mejia was placed on the 15-day disabled list after getting a cortisone shot on Tuesday. MINOR DEVELOPMENTS Bobby Parnell (Tommy John rehab) and Vic Black (shoulder) will pitch in minor-league games within the next two days, GM Sandy Alderson said. ... Travis dArnaud, who went 5-for-11 in this series with four RBI, said he was excited about catching Harvey on Thursday. Its only the second time I caught him in a game, dArnaud said. I caught him in my (major-league) debut and then he got hurt. Its fun. ... Alex Torres had a forgettable Mets debut. The lefty reliever walked two in one-third of an inning and was responsible for two runs. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/met-insider-cuddyer-buying-harvey-hype-article-1.2180183
  12. Song parody as IGT opening post. I like this. Trend?
  13. I just got around to watching this game. I haven't seen Harvey pitch in so long, I forgot how strong he is. Like an ox. His legs are like redwood trunks. Here's an excerpt from Grantland's piece on Harvey's return in DC: ...Harvey, unlike so many young baseball stars, hasnt surrendered his humanity in the pursuit of sport; he sees no reason to pretend not to enjoy being young, handsome, and famous all at once. Its also that he is elevated by the obnoxious bicoastal American creation myth, in which all life originated on Manhattan Island, and Gods chosen people either remain there or migrate to Los Angeles, leaving whats between as a wasteland not worth considering. And Harvey is one shining beacon of goodness in a Mets culture with massive reach thats been corroded to its soul by forces so insidious that losing consistently doesnt make the franchises list of most concerning issues. But beyond the media microscope and the Ten Plagues of Wilpon, it remains that in 2012 and 2013, Harvey achieved a level of success that was shocking on its own....

  20. This is the first time in the Citi Field era that I'd say the Mets have a shot at the playoffs. Still, too much has to break their way. 84-78.
  21. I'd like to see that game where Matt Franco drives in the winning run in the Mets last at bat. I've heard so much about that game.
  22. Must be that scoreboard that ain't got any right angles.
  23. If Lagares is truly anywhere near as valuable as his WAR suggests, the Mets got a steal at that price -- a CF'er entering his prime putting up MVP WAR numbers. My hunch, tthough, is that the Mets would make out even in arbitration, on the assumption that defensive value doesn't bring in its real worth in that setting.
