All he gave up was a barely fence-clearing line drive homer to Cesar Cedeno in the first. But that was all he had to give up. Andujar threw a complete game shutout and won, 1-0. Couldn't stand the guy in the heat of 1985, of course, but you're not supposed to cotton to the toughest of competitors on your archrivals. There's a cool Mets trivia question in here. Anyone who scours Mets media guides would probably nail the question and the answer before even finishing reading this post. Well now I need to be enlightened. This have something to do with the 1-0 games decided by home runs perennial filler entry? You're definitely on the right track.

It's still murky. Forgot about all the explanations and clarifications and double-talk for a second. What really happened? Did Boras create the issue? (probably) And if so, did Harvey truly want to follow Boras's lead, or did Harvey make those controversial innings-limits quotes against his true wishes and only under the influence of Boras? Have these questions been answered yet? I agree that Harvey wasn't handled properly. But Harvey didn't help himself either. He's a dope, as far as I'm concerned.

Once Nady was gone and replaced by Green, it wasn't quite the same. By the following year, Alou when he was available was more potent than 2006 Floyd, but he wasn't available much. And Lo Duca fell off. And Valentin fell off and eventually was out for the year. And so on until today, so I can't say I examined every lineup of every year. But mostly I hope tonight's comes through tonight and establishes a new benchmark. Though blessed with baseball's most potent lineup, all the idiot manager ever wanted to do was have Lo Duca make an intentional out that might move Reyes up one base.

We should be in that good a mood (I include myself and my grudge toward whathisname the former Brave lefty). Everybody else, yes. But him? No. Since when did whathisname the former Brave lefty ever pitch for the Mets in the post-season? He's not even eligible for the proposed pardon.

  11. G-Fafif wrote: I have no idea how it went down, mind you. I'm just happy it went down. Last night a friend suggested Mets should pay him a million bucks for the privilege, which reminded me of a posting fee for Japanese free agents. I hope it was a sign of good faith on the player's part. Or that he gets a bigger cut of the t-shirt sales. I'm kinda hoping that the Mets had to pay to waive the clause. Because if so, it's a good sign of the state of the Mets.

I dunno but if the Mets had to pay to amend Cespedes's contract (and my guess is that they did have to) that they did is probably a good sign. FAFIF's post is phrased to suggest that Cespedes voluntarily waived the clause for nothing in return. G-Fafif wrote: He might stick around. At the very least, per Joel Sherman, he's agreed to waive the five-day clause that would make him a free agent unavailable to the Mets until May 15, if at all. He seems to like us and stuff. Doesn't the press know to ask the right questions?

  14. Edgy MD wrote: Kenny Rogers went 5-1 down the stretch for a Mets team that ultimately needed a one-game play-in to get in the post-season at all. Any Mets fan who runs into him should kiss his filthy mouth. Kenny Rogers was fucking great in 1999 for the Mets. The way he's remembered for that last pitch of the season is about as fair as reducing Beltran's Mets legacy to you know what.
  15. Benitez was fucking great. At his peak, he was as good as any Mets reliever ever and the contenders are an extremely short list anyways. Whaddya want from relievers? That they should never give up a run? The best relievers come into situations where there's practically no margin for error and expectations for these guys are always distorted. They're hardly ever as blameworthy as they're made out to be when they blow an outing.

  17. Some of the Indians current unis are, I believe, among baseball's coolest. But it doesn't look like they've abandoned Chief Wahoo. 18. Did anyone here actually read what Harvey said? Here it is: ... It's also obvious from the italicized portion that he's dissociating himself from Boras's statement.... The facts are that Harvey wants to pitch and is not talking about shutting himself down. So then why doesn't Harvey come out and say what you claim he said? He's had a gazillion [/hype] microphones stuck in his face in the past 24 hours. He's had every chance to clarify this story. Me, I think Harvey's been handled poorly and also, that he can't help himself because he's a major stupid dope with barely any saavy. That dope point, I thought so from his breakout season. But I'm not surprised that he cares more about his future earnings than the Mets post-season chances of success. I believe that every player would prefer tens and tens of millions of dollars over a World Series ring. It's just that Harvey appears to be the first active player, as far as I can remember, to be dumb enough to more or less admit this. "Why doesnt Harvey come out and say what you claim he said?" he's a "major stupid dope" If he is a dope, it seems like you answered your own question. That's right. And your point is ....? Hey, didja get a load of all the magic number and NHOP talk going on around here lately? Think you can handle it?
  19. I like Addison Reed. I 've got a good feeling about him and I hope I'm right. If anybody told me last March that come September, the Mets would be in the catbird seat and the odds on favorite to win the division and that Wilmer Flores would be their cleanup hitter, I woulda said: "I already know that. Don't tell me what I already know."

  21. ] The last nine are DAVID AARDSMA BRAVES BLAINE BOYER TWINS juan centeno brewers dana eveland braves aaron laffey rockies SHAUN MARCUM INDIANS JASON PRIDIE ATHLETICS taylor teagarden cubs LOGAN VERRETT RANGERS I would've done pretty good on this quiz because of all of those card threads I've been making over the past three seasons. But some of these, I wouldn't have identified in forever time. Like Centeno and Germen, for example.
