  1. Bobblegut.[/bigpurple] Mets' Bartolo Colon gets immortalized in special bobblehead with bobble stomach In honor of Bartolo Colon's first career , Clark Toys released a special bobblehead commemorating the 42-year-old Mets right-hander's unlikely feat. But this bobblehead has a unique twist: It also features a bobble stomach.... The company is now accepting preorders for the Bartolo bobblehead, which is expected to start shipping in the fall. http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/2016/05/mets_bartolo_colon_gets_immortalized_in_special_bo.html Hope they clear up that newspaper headline.
  2. QUIZ (Difficulty level -- kinda tough if you're not a fan of the team in question) In one season, four different pitchers from the same team won the POTM award -- including a three consecutive month POTM winning streak. In one single post, name the team and the four pitchers. We were looking for the following starting pitchers on the 1979 Astros: [fimg=350]http://img.comc.com/i/Baseball/1979/Topps/534/Ken-Forsch.jpg?id=08bb7e40-fe2a-4d88-8607-68d76a0c1e39&size=zoom[/fimg][fimg=350]http://img.comc.com/i/Baseball/1979/Topps/68/Joe-Niekro.jpg?id=a234a657-8095-415c-960c-b33a6a5aa50b&size=zoom[/fimg] [fimg=350]http://img.comc.com/i/Baseball/1979/Topps/471/Joaquin-Andujar.jpg?id=860dc27c-37ee-4ff7-b966-aa066f8e43b1&size=zoom[/fimg][fimg=350]http://img.comc.com/i/Baseball/1979/O-Pee-Chee/310/JR-Richard.jpg?id=5008f6d6-15d8-4fe2-9f56-c36d0f5d27e0&size=zoom[/fimg] who won the POTM award in April, May, June, and September of 1979, respectively. J.R. Richard won the award in April of 1980, his second straight month as the NL POTM, giving those Astros five of the last seven awards. Like Richard, two Mets won the POTM award in September of one season and then in April of the very next season; Dwight Gooden ('85/'86) and Johan Santana ('08/'09). Those are also the only instances in which a Met won the award in two consecutive months. Here's the list of every Met who won the POTM award: Tom Seaver - June, 1975 Jerry Koosman - July, 1976 Tom Seaver - April, 1977 Pat Zachry - July, 1980 Jesse Orosco - August, 1983 Ron Darling - June, 1984 Dwight Gooden - September, 1984 Dwight Gooden - September, 1985 Dwight Gooden - April, 1986 Sid Fernandez - April, 1987 David Cone - May, 1988 Dwight Gooden - September, 1990 Bret Saberhagen - July, 1994 Bobby Jones - May, 1996 Al Leiter - June, 1999 Al Leiter - June, 2000 John Maine - April, 2006 Johan Santana - September, 2008 Johan Santana - April, 2009 R.A. Dickey - June, 2012 Matt Harvey - April, 2013
  3. I like how Goossen's glove looks so big because it's in the foreground. Compare Goossen's glove to Sanders'. The two gloves are probably, roughly, about the same size. Yet it looks like Goossen's glove could swallow Sanders' glove whole.
  4. I think I read somewhere that no group of starters ever struck out more than 1,000 batters in a season, or something like that. But these Mets just might be the staff to do it.

  6. Do strikeouts in one season by a Mets pitching staff; by Mets starters. I'm guessing a record setting pace -- perhaps a MLB record setting pace, or in the running.
  7. 1969-er Dr. Ron Taylor left in the dust. Saves in a Metly Season Jeurys Familia, Projected to End of Season: 55.e2 ... 8. I figgered that someone would guess that era Braves staff, probably right off the bat. So here's a clue. It's not the Braves. And here's another clue for you all: The walrus is Paul.

We already had the ultimate showdown of 2016 on Tuesday in Syndergaard vs. Scherzer, but once upon a time, in April of 2013, Harvey Day was eclipsing Strasmas as the occasion of choice in the NL East and we all knew who was better. Harvey took home the NL Pitcher of the Month award that April, 2013 -- the last time a Met won that award. Presently, Jake Arrietta has won the last three NL Pitcher of the Month awards, dating back to August of last season -- an unprecedented NL accomplishment - matched in the AL by one-time Mets Pedro Martinez (BOS) and Johan Santana (MIN). Bartolo Colon won the POTM award an impressive four times; twice with the Indians and once each with the Angels and Athletics. 12. excerpt (with emphasis): Collins said he believes Harvey is suffering from a hangover after logging 216 innings last season. That was the most innings ever in a first season back from Tommy John surgery. "As I tried to explain to Matt again, there's some people that don't believe it -- this kid went above and beyond last year," Collins said. "And I'm not sure he's recuperated from it. I'm going to stand by it. It's not an excuse. We don't make excuses here. I think it might be a reason. I think there's a difference between a reason and an excuse. That's where I stand on it. I've told Matt, I still trust him. I still believe in him. I've seen him do it. But we'll take a hard look at what the next move is going to be." Nationals phenom Bryce Harper agreed that last year's workload might be catching up to Harvey. "It kind of goes back to, what, he had surgery last year and then he forced 230 innings?" Harper said. "I feel bad for him. He comes off the mound, and he gets booed. I work out with him in the offseason. Being around him a little bit when working out, he works his tail off. You never want to see a guy do that. All the best to him." http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/15619331/terry-collins-says-new-york-mets-take-look-possibility-pulling-matt-harvey-rotation-temporarily

  14. Centerfield wrote: I'm not certain of anything and I am not ready to put Wright out to pasture. But my worry (posted in the worries here thread) is that he's done. This particular thread calls for a prediction, and as such, I predicted. Largely based upon my worry. And yes, I base my prediction partly on what he looks like out there. I realize every player slumps. I think Bryce Harper is mired in a terrible slump right now. But fearing he may be done (23 years old, healthy) would be silly. I don't think it's silly at all to worry that Wright (10 years older, degenerative back condition) might be done. Everyone realizes players slump. And everyone here understands that Wright might simply be mired in a bit of a slump himself that he'll work his way out of. It's just that some people can't handle any negative talk about the Mets, especially when it's coming from certain people. So now the whole sensible discussion is gonna get sabotaged with ridiculous sarcastic and ironic comments like this all means that Wright is gonna hand in his retirement papers tomorrow and Bryce Harper will follow as soon as he goes hitless in three straight games.
  15. Oh relax already. It's only a thread and a poll.

If he's injured, he can go on the 60-day, which I believe means that (a) he collects his full salary; ( he doesn't take up a roster spot on the 40; and (c) from the above articles, chances are that the Mets don't collect anything, because they likely had to renew their policy in 2016 and the renewed policy likely had exclusions for Wright's pre-existing conditions, including the spinal stenosis. Yeah, we were speculating on what could happen if Wright retires. It's uncharacteristic of Wright, but hypothetically, if Wright were to reach the point where he could no longer play at the major league level, and by that I mean replacement level, but refused to retire -- he'd be sticking it to the Mets because (I assume without looking it up) Wright's contract is guaranteed. The Mets aren't obligated to pay him if he quits/retires in mid-contract, but if Wright doesn't ....

  21. The trick is that whenever you see "eff Wilpon", you have to substitute "f**k" for "eff". Only not really asterisks. Those asterisks are just for being polite and all.

You meant "purpose" instead of "puppies" (Some crazy typo, there!) So you're asking if I'm calling him "eff" on purpose. Well, of course I am. It's a play on words. F. Wilpon. eff Wilpon. As in eff you or eff U. eff Wilpon.
  25. Edgy MD wrote: Edgy MD wrote: Yeah, relax. With your facts and whatnot. It's just a thread. What does that mean? I guess it means I disagree with you deriding obvious information that runs contrary to your thesis as nitpicking. It's not contrary. When the Mets dedided to extend Harvey to the end of the post-season, it might've nullified whatever they did earlier. Because that initial plan included shutting down Harvey at some point. And without the shut-down, the initial plan might've been compromised. It's like eliminating entire sections of a cake recipe. The cake ain't gonna come out like the recipe sez it should if you only do the first six out of nine instructions. And you shouldn't be bragging about getting the first six steps right if you left out the last three. Which is what you're doing.
