Edgy MD wrote: Escobar's absence was attributed to a 'non-workplace event.' Buck went on to say “That's all I can really say legally,” which kind of sounds uncool, like he'd tell you all of his player's personal shit if it wasn't for that damned nanny state. i mean, it probably doesn't mean that at all, but it kind of reads like it does if you're trying hard to glean implied meanings. Speaking of implied meanings, though, "event" kind of suggests injury more than illness. Anyhow, I hope he improves quickly, but if he's even unavailable another day or two, Vientos makes for an appealing replacement option, and debuting as an injury replacement can really take the heat off a guy. Yeah, that was a big blunder: That's all I can really say legally. Buck should've simply said that he had no more to say without using that "legally" word or the "really" word. Something like "No more questions." would've been a neat escape or "That's all for now".

From 2017's Ltd. Potato Knishes set, Tommy Milone. A coupl'a starts. an 8.56 ERA. And then he was gone. I think 2017 was the year when all of a sudden it seemed as if the Mets were going through a zillion pitchers a season. Still are. So whachyouse got.? I think I remember Mike Trout taking Milone deep, like in left the yard deep. [FIMG=400]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52153890704_f896620dee_c.jpg[/FIMG] Typewriter is extremely generous to Mets fringe players. We carded Milone on three different sets in 2017. That's probably three more Mets cards from Milone than you'd find anywhere else. 2017 Typewriter Total Mets set - Code: Hoosier [FIMG=400]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52153900914_4ace017f21_b.jpg[/FIMG] 2017 Typewriter Total Mets set - Code: Ack [FIMG=400]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52154156720_4cddf3181c_b.jpg[/FIMG]

IGT 06/16 - Brewers at Mets - Win One For Marie!
batmagadanleadoff replied to kcmets's topic in Archived Game Threads
Happened to see a discussion on a Strat page this week that mentioned that Marte has the highest possible "card" rating(whatever that is) for baserunning in their 16 team league. Starling Marte, NYM: rh, 33, 514 ab, AA steal, cf-2(-2)e4, 85.2/100.2; was the last guy passed over, best baserunner in the deck Whatever he thought about on that play, Strat feels he's the one to know how to achieve the best outcome. Can any strat players here confirm that? Later I haven't played in many years, decades really, and SOM is always adding new features to the game. The "AA" designation is a base stealing rank, which in SOM, is separate from baserunning. I have no idea what that "85.2/100/2" is, but it might be connected to Marte's SOM baserunning. I've never seen SOM numbers or rankings in that format. That's definitelty a new feature that didn't exist when I played. There was a baserunning rank when I played, but it was in this format: 1-x, where x is a number less than 20 and as far as I can remember, never higher than 17. 1-17 was the highest ranked baserunning designation. -
Great reporting there. And while you're on the mend, maybe you can give us another in depth write-up on our next fringe Met -- Joaquin Arias -- conjured up by your own last post. Just 30 Mets AB's, all in 2010, Arias was a midle infielder who didn't do much of anything. He was the player to be named later that the Rangers got from the Yankees when they sent A-Rod and his gazillion dollar salary to the Bronx. Arias is featured on Typewriter's 2010 Rock and Roll set because, natch, that was the set for the 2010 Mets. Whachyouse got on Arias? Luis Hernandez had all off 44 AB's for the Mets in 2010. That's more playing time than Fossum's 4IP, but still, that's a fringe Met if I ever saw one. So whaddyouse know about Luis Hernandez? I dunno how youse are even gonna distinguish him, let alone remember anything about him. Doesn't every team have a Luis or a Hernandez on its 25-man every single season? Luis was carded in a 2010 Typewriter Total Mets set, code named Rock & Roll. He was fringy, but every Met still gets a card. And isn't that the point? Not me. The Mets won in spite of Randolph. If the Mets won x games with Randolph, they would've won more than x games with practically any other manager. He was the worst Mets manager ever. I loathed him. And I never tire of saying so. -

Lefty Specialist wrote: Seaver from a 'did you have to rip my heart out and stomp on it?' perspective. This was true throughout Seaver's entire Reds stint. But looking back at that trade 45 years later, cooly, dispassionately and removed of any emotion, the Mets were better off in the long run, trading Seaver to Cincy. The team was going nowhere even with Seaver. It was awful, its farm had dried up and the owners were not gonna pursue top tier free agents. With Seaver, the great teams of the 80s might not have happened. -

Edgy MD wrote: Do you mean to suggest that Tom Seaver was so good in 1981 that the Mets are in a lesser draft position in 1982 and likely don't get Dwight Gooden? We discussed the Seaver trade this way once. The team was so bad, keeping Seaver wouldn't have made a meaningful difference in the standings. On the other hand, with Seaver, the Mets wouldn't have been bad enough to draft Strawberry and they wouldn't have made it up that year because the 1st round of the 1980 amateur draft is among the worst ever. Without Strawberry, and probably some other prospects that the Mets don't get to draft, including Dykstra and yes, maybe Gooden, Keith probably doesn't stay after '83 and without Straw and Keith, the Mets probably don't bother trading for Carter. It wasn't the Mets intent to tank in 1977, if that was even a tactic back then, but they essentially did even if they blundered into it, and the next regime was able to parlay the Mets high draft picks from fielding awful teams into gold. Obviously, I'd take back the Ryan trade. Fregosi was practically DOA. Would Ryan have delivered another pennant? A world series title? Who knows? But Ryan became a dominant pitcher instantly for the Angels and the Mets already had baseball's best pitching staff under Berra. Ryan would've replaced the Mets 5th starter, a huge talent increase. Seaver, Matlack, Koosman and Ryan! Having Ryan wouldn't have hurt the Mets. -
I appreciate the "accountability" but it's gotta be more complex than that. I mean, "I was successful throwing fastballs early and breaking stuff late, but I never brought that pattern up with my catchers, who kept calling for the opposite, and I kept throwing what they calling for weeks, so I was getting clobbered start after start until I realized OMIGOSH I should tell them the pattern that works for me. What a poopyhead I am!!" doesn't quite add up. Yeah, I read that article at least three times and it made little sense to me. Were the catchers calling Bassitt 's pattern in reverse? If so, why? Or did Bassitt wanna pitch those two losses in reverse pattern? And if the catchers were off, isnt Bassitt supposed to shake them off? It's so confusing. And if the catchers were right all along, why does Bassitt explain that those two losses were in reverse pattern and he got back to his pattern last night?

From our award-winning inaugural Citi Field 2009 Mets set, the understatedly simple yet elegant Vestigial Tails total Mets set: [FIMG=300]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52148379728_7a9800e83c_h.jpg[/FIMG][FIMG=300]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52148600169_2ffa39c111_h.jpg[/FIMG][FIMG=300]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52148600159_63a7707c85_h.jpg[/FIMG][FIMG=300]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52148379698_4452f55301_h.jpg[/FIMG] "Form and function in a baseball card. Clean lines, uncluttered imagery and they flip well, too". One word -- Bauhaus! Vaguely. Brown committed some kind of base-running screw-up, I think. It may have been the last out of a close game. Something like that. Three games, six plate appearances, total. That's Emil's Mets record.

Topps did/does a bit of that with the "Topps Total" set, which did a nice job of catching everyone. The 2019 Topps Total set, for example, has the only Mets cards of Adeiny Hechavarria and Rajai Davis, and 2020 has Walker Lockett and Brad Brach. Yes, but nobody covers the Citi Field Mets in cardboard better than Typewriter Chewing Gum. At Typewriter, every Met gets a card, even the fringiest Mets. Every Met. Every year. And to prove our point, we're opening up our vaults to feature a fringy Citi Field Met "all typed up". Pat yourself on your back if you can remember anything about any of the Mets to be featured in this thread. And watch this space. If youse ain't collecting Typewriters, you won't be able to flip through your baseball card collections to remind yourselves of these fringy Mets because they ain't appearing in any other sets -- at least not as Mets. 2015 Total Mets Set - Code Name: Neon [FIMG=350]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52145112661_768b7ce15c.jpg[/FIMG]

Let's talk some 1972-73 Padres duds. [FIMG=444]https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fmiro.medium.com%2Fmax%2F1400%2F1*BjYVwj0HHoBCwqtaX4SweA.jpeg&psig=AOvVaw2zdhRWOJLScawTe_88G1_K&ust=1655229701684000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=2ahUKEwiBt7Kkgav4AhUSMlkFHW75A_YQ3YkBegQIABAN[/FIMG] [FIMG=444]https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.pinimg.com%2Foriginals%2F6c%2F13%2Feb%2F6c13eb92dd7552a5d1a6d5daaf692b1a.jpg&psig=AOvVaw3M_CFBh8IS2Y7iUCSLbT4u&ust=1655229763791000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=2ahUKEwjsloHCgav4AhXYEGIAHRnmBeQQ3YkBegQIABAN[/FIMG] When they came out, I thought they were the goofiest unis I'd ever seen. Padres in those duds looked like big bananas. Later in the decade, whenever I'd read about disgruntled Padres superstar Dave Winfield regularly mocking his team's uniform history, these are the unis I immediately thought of. But here's the thing. I love these unis today. Maybe in a retro way. Maybe in a nostalgic yearning for the past sort of way, when I could play Strat-O-Matic baseball all day long and nobody was paying $50.00 for a pack of baseball cards, which in 1972, was a goddamn fortune. I wouldn't mind it if the Padres wore those unis today on a regular basis. But only the Padres. I wouldn't want the Mets to wear an orange version of those unis. But I'm fine with the Padres because in my mind, they're associated with brown and yellow and garish unis. It's a part of their heritage and I hated those decades when they strayed from the brown and yellow and wore blue. Or "sand" (or whatever that color was called).

Edgy MD wrote: I'll open with the awful Sox uniform that somehow ended up on the best of pitchers. Everything about it says company picnic softeall. The tricolor hat feels like it came out of the bargain bin after a real team returned them because they didn't turn out right. The horizontal stripes are whatever the opposite of slimming is. https://www.rksportspromotions.com/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/1916-1952.jpg?itok=mvgOZDjI> Lamarr Hoyt did a lot of cocaine in those threads. The team's road uniforms were virtually the same except for the gray foundation, but I chose the homies, because they include the white front panel that makes the hat look like a trucker's, and the brightness of the home whites just adds to the shamelessness. I never liked those Sox unis. I remember reading, when they were first unveiled, some positive reviews about the duds, and how they were futuristic and forward-thinking. I'm still wondering where that future is because here I am, 40 years after those Sox unis debuted and I still haven't seen that future. Maybe it already passed. Or maybe it still hasn't even arrived yet. I'll keep a look-out, though.

Pacific is (or was) a baseball card company, licensed (or once licensed) by MLB to sell baseball cards. "Amigos" was a subset of one of Pacific's 1993 sets. Back then, there were dozens of baseball sets produced each year. That's "dozens", with an "s" at the end.
