  2. ="Elster88"] ="Edgy DC"] Perez was helped by telling him to go back to his old style of throwing (use the fastball more). I infer from this that somewhere along the line someone tried to adjust Perez's pitching style AFTER his 200 K in 170 IP season. If true, it's fucking amazing. From Doc to Perez, it's been 20 years of pitching coaches adjusting young phenom pitchers AWAY from what makes them great. Yep, from the stories we read when the Mets got Perez, that's exactly what happened. The Bucs tried to get him to throw more breaking pitches and take some speed off his fastball in order to improve his control. They felt he was throwing too many pitches at a young age and were fearful about the long term impact on his arm. Later
  3. Good game in a memorable series. Endy Chavez had the chance to have one of the greatest innings (top AND bottom) in the history of playoff baseball. He came through in the top (the catch) but couldn't in the bottom. Time to start the "days until pitchers and catchers" clock. Wait 'till next year. Later
  4. It was my fault they lost. I moved from my "lucky position" at the start of the ninth inning to go to the kitchen to get more potato chips. I hate myself. Later
  5. soupcan wrote: You say stupid, inappropriate things quite a bit MFS. I say what is in my heart. I happened to notice Chapman's name in the paper this morning. So this analogy came to mind. Ask any Brooklyn fans how they felt when their team was taken from them, and I'd bet the analogies they use would be comparable- that their hopes and dreams were crushed. Later
  6. Acording to this Morning's Daily News, the Mets eligible for arbitration are: Ramon Castro Endy Chavez Oliver Perez Duanier Sanchez Victor Zambrano Dave Williams No mention on who will be a free agent, nor did they mention players who have an option (player, team or mutual). From that list above, who do you offer arby to? Who do you let become free agents? Later
  7. Last night, Yadier Molina became this generation's Mark David Chapman. With one shot, he killed the hopes and dreams of millions. Now, Mets fans can only "Imagine". Yeah, I'm bummed. Later

  9. When the season began, most Mets fans would have been happy for 89 wins and maybe the wild card, as Omar slowly builds a winner. Post yours here. Later

  11. On the Today show this morning, when talking about who would win the World Series, he said: "I'm rooting for snow". But I agree with the "root for the guys who beat ya'" theory, too. Later

  13. That's funny. I don't remember starting this thread. Thanks for breaking it off, WP. Didn't mean to hijack that other theread. Later

  15. They were going to pick Julia Stiles. But they remembered that she probably throws like a girl. So did John Stewart.Later
  16. I won't be wearing the hat I wore to the game last Friday. For those of you who saw me and were wondering what it was, it is a Columbia Bombers (their old SAL farm team) cap. I spent a lot of time there on business and got it. Later
  17. A Toronto writer? I'm surprised he didn't suggest that Joe Carter throw out the first pitch. That was awful.Later
  18. ="soupcan"]Yes but this particular thread here happens to be about the uniforms.. I know. And I just tried to comment on unis from my perspective. But, as I have also said, I am superstitious. So if wearing a certain type of uni will result in a win, I'm all for it. Later
  19. While I'm all for tradition. And superstition. Its what's inside the uniform that counts. Later
  20. I'd like to see 9 from Perez, in a Met win laugher. I'm getting too old for another nail biter. But, like Sharpie, I think we'll see something other than that. Later
  21. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Not too much clamminess in the forecast. I disagree. I bet more than one tush will be tighter than a clam tonight. The APPFs will be up in the 9.7 range. Later

  23. Why? Because he's smiling? Its better than many player pics in which they have the standard deer in headlights expression. Later
  24. Jon Stewart had John Ashcroft on as his guest last night. Since Stewart is from New York and Ashcroft is from Missouri, Stewart made this proposition: "If the St. Louis Cardinals win tonight, we will send you a new free Daily Show t-shirt. If the New York Mets win tonight, I get to go to Heaven." Later
