  1. Boras is fighting someone who wants to undermine the players' union. from USA Today via Yahoo (I couldn't find the USA link) https://www.yahoo.com/sports/agent-scott-boras-calls-coup-214431562.htmlhttps://www.yahoo.com/sports/agent-scott-boras-calls-coup-214431562.html Later
  2. Some big bodies on that squad. They might have had to use a flatbed instead of a bus to get them to the away game. Later
  3. Butto has ben optioned to AAA, Senger to minor league camp. Reports are saying this means Megill has made the team and will be in the rotation. Later
  4. Shaky rehab in the minors. Finds his stuff and command in July. Brought up in August. Used out of the bullpen, unless someone looks at his numbers and realizes he is batter as a starter. Ends up 4-3 4.12. Later
  5. Metsmerized.com rates him the #22 prospect: Later
  6. Alvarez with a double makes it 3-1. Later
  7. We hope cutting his hair doesn't have a Sampson effect on Sean. Later
  8. I know Alvarez can hit and throw. But can he play center field? Later
  9. Can't wait to see the box scores. The "will the real Thornton stand up" situation is like the two players named De Los Santos who play for the Mets in the minors. Omar De Los Santos has appeared with the major league team this spring (I'm not sure if he has been sent to the minor league camp yet), while J De Los Santos will be starting for St. Lucie. Omar has, as Murph would say, "A world of speed", but hasn't shown much else. Later
  10. In ST, I've seen him take a pitch from a lefty and serve the other way for a hit. If he can do that consistently, he's going to stay in the lineup more than a strict platoon and his numbers will be .267-18-74 in 145 G. If he reverts and can't hit lefties, his numbers as a platoon player will be .244- 10- 51 in 122 G. Later
  11. I agree. From MLB.com today: By now, everyone knows about the ‘third time through the order' effect in the Major Leagues, the one that's helped shorten starting pitcher outings because the numbers so clearly show that a pitcher is less effective the third time he faces a batter. While it's a recent discussion, it's not a recent effect – even Bob Gibson, for example, was 27 points of OPS worse the second time through than he was the first time, and then 48 points worse the third time than the second time. Yes, his performance was 48 pts of OPS worse his third time through the lineup, but it I think it was still better than the people who may have relieved him. And I would have loved to have seen what would have happened when the manager came out to relieve him after twice through the order when he was still shutting people down. https://www.mlb.com/news/minor-league-statcast-data-compared-to-mlb?partnerId=it-20240319-9330788-mlb-1-A&utm_id=it-20240319-9330788-mlb-1-A&lctg=32496098https://www.mlb.com/news/minor-league-statcast-data-compared-to-mlb?partnerId=it-20240319-9330788-mlb-1-A&utm_id=it-20240319-9330788-mlb-1-A&lctg=32496098 Later
  12. Tommie Agee with the glove, Don Hahn with the bat. Would play every day in a better lineup, but I'm not sure he won't be replaced at some point in the season with a better hitter. .246- 8- 37 Later
  13. .265-31-87 And he will use his practiced facility with English for interviews at the All-Star Game. Later

  15. I'm following the battle for the reserve infielder spot. Jose Iglesias is fighting for the roster spot currently held by Zach Short. IMO, Iglesias is winning, with Zach coming up just a little, uh, short. And Mark Vientos took a Golden Sombrero and is currently on the interstate. He joins most of the regulars who haven't found their hitting strokes yet. Later
  16. Gas up the bullpen golf cart, folks. It sounds like we're in a for a doozy and it will be making many trips. (Yeah, I know. They don't have one, but I wanted to say it) Later
  17. Nice to hear. Glad my kid, Calvin Ziegler, is healthy now. Later

  22. Please somebody in the organization, tell him what is expected of him. Will he be a Nomad, moving position to position in both the batting order and on the field? If they do, I predict .275-15-60 - a gruntled blue collar employee, just putting in the hours. If they just leave him at second base and bat him second, I predict .320-20-70 - a happy camper bringing joy to the field, the clubhouse, the fans and the All-Star voters. Make it so. Later
