  1. They should easily replace the awful "Everybody clap yo hands!" thing and even the classic shot from Network with the Curly Shuffle.
  2. Can not download the latest Adobe Flash Player on my work computer and I'm sure I can't watch the MLBTV video since this office is pretty much an half hour away from Shea. DAMN!
  3. Course I forget Moises Alou on the Mets...
  4. Who be the Fish, who need to be severely squished? Miami continued their fire selling ways this past offseason, dealing away the last two members of the 2003 World Champions and their two biggest known stars, Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis, to Detroit. In there place, there are still young players that the Marlins will look to build as a foundation as they look to finally getting their new stadium some time down the road. The starters shape up like this: 1B Old friend Mike Jacobs who hit .265 with 17 homers and 54 RBIs in 114 games a year ago. 2B Dan Uggla who had a solid sophomore campaign after being a surprise rookie star in 2006. 3B Looks like Jorge Cantu will be taking over for Cabrera in 2008, played with both the Reds and Devil Rays in 2007 where he hit a combined .252 in just 52 ballgames. SS Hanley Ramirez all but solidified his status as one of the best shortstops in the game a year ago when he followed up his Rookie of The Year winning season with a .332 average, 29 homers and 81 RBIs. LF Josh Willingham yet another third year player who had a pretty solid sophomore season with the Marlins last year. CF Right now it appears to be a platoon with Cody Ross and Alejandro De Aza. RF Jeremy Hermida, although it would appear he is banged up and might not make the start on Monday. C With one of the villains of the disaster that was the final weekend of the regular season, Miguel Olivo, now in Kansas City, the catching duties will fall to Matt Treanor. Also notable on the Marlin bench is 40 year old Luis Gonzalez. Your Probable Pitchers for the series: Johan Santana will make his Mets debut Monday, going up against Mark Hendrickson who went 4-8 a year ago in LA with a 5.21 ERA. Pedro Martinez will take the hill on Tuesday against Netherlands native Rick VandenHurk who pitched in 18 games last year to the tune of a 4-6 record and a 6.83 ERA. Wednesday's starters are not known at this time per MLB.com, but look for Oliver Perez to take the mound for the Mets. Ex-Factors You know about Jacobs on the Fish, but they also have Matt Lindstrom who made his debut last year with the Marlins, going 3-4 with a 3.09 ERA in 71 games as a reliever. On the Ex-Fish side the Mets are rocking; Luis Castillo Carlos Delgado Ramon Castro
  5. AG/DC wrote: Closer tandems rool. Except of course when it doesn't. Chances are Jesse is on the mound because Roger just pitched in the 6th through 8th. Which means Sisk, Gorman, Sambito, etc are just waiting there not to be used. And vice versa. Plus as seen with the Red Sox, "closer by committee" is a horrible, horrible way to do a bullpen. Heck the Yankees had to let a former CY winning reliever go because they forked a whole lot of cash to a flavor of the month. You think Steinbrenner was going to allow his new toy to go in every other day or work if Sparky Lyle didn't get the job done? I only bring that example up because I heard Gossage explain that he had hoped that would be the way it would have worked out with a two-headed closer. It's like having two starting QBs, you really don't have one.
  6. The hell is your point? You are doing what you are accusing me of doing, taking one out of a few big spots that Benitez actually came back after a bad performance to try and defend your position that Benitez is a big game pitcher. He ISN'T. It's not like he has only had a few bad outings, he actually does hold the record for most blown saves in postseason history. The Benitez revisionism on this board can be quite scary. I can buy Irish's pick based on Benitez being the "best" of the lot of Franco, Looper and Wagner based on his arm and the fact that Wagner doesn't have the best postseason track record either, but lets not start acting like Benitez should be put even in the same conversation as the next tier below Rivera, Gossage, Eckersley, Fingers and Sutter (if you want a top 5). Are we going to make a case that Mitch Williams wasn't as bad as the Carter homer made him out to be?
  7. AG/DC wrote: I don't care about Jose Mesa. And I'm sure Irish has had his head examined many times. And your evidence for your postiion is that he failed in game one. And if you simulataneously eliminate anybody else with a high-profile failure, you're left with nobody. Difference is Benitez (and Mesa as well) does not have anything on the good side of the ledger the way Rivera, Gossage, Eckersley and Fingers (easily the top 4 relievers in history) do despite mega failures. Benitez does not have that "get back on the horse" mentality that the aforementioned 4 did (or has in Rivera's case). Hence why it is tough to really want Benitez there in a Game 7, despite the fact that he may have closed out games along the way.
  8. Then I couldn't Google a nice shot of Yogi wearing his Metly #8 uni, and I even tried a search for that SI shot of Clendennon slapping Berra's hand round first in the 1969 World Series and came up empty.
  9. Oh I don't give a crap anymore, plus he did wear it at Shea and Val posted The Kid
  10. People hate it when I post lyrics on the site, I'm sure it will go double if they have to hear me do what passes for singing karaoke via YouTube!
  11. Am I the only one that finds it amusing that the first Harvard grad to become President is being portrayed by not only a Yalie, but a Yale Legacy as well?
  12. AG/DC wrote: Photos? One photo When it gets posted? Your guess is as good as mine and I took the darn thing!
  13. KC wrote: They might not even show the baseball games. I'm sure if we pester them, and slip in some generous tips. Plus Pedro is starting.
  14. Good question, if someone goes early should they ask for a reservation for "Cranepool?" Also we might be the ONLY people there paying attention to the baseball game! = Seriously, got some great pro and college hoops action (and even HS action as well from MSG) with the Selection Sunday tomorrow night, and all the conference tournys end tomorrow, and you have the Lakers trying to stop the Rockets from getting their 22nd straight win, which is 2nd to the '73 Lakers' 33 straight wins... Well, Pedro is supposed to take the hill for the Mets...that's something =

I want to edit it because (1) it's hard to rate a film on a scale of 2-5, (2) we usually start with the lower rankings first and I suspect peeps oft mis-vote when confronted by the inverse, and (3) it works better with ten gradations than with five, or four as you have here. Sorry I thought you wanted a better line from 1776. Yeah sure, go ahead with the voting scale edit
  16. Of course I forget to say, it kicks off Sunday night at 8 for a two hour premiere.
  17. To what, This Movie Reeks of Adams, Adams, Admas?
  18. In the 1960s, the Broadway musical and movie 1776 brought John Adams back from the depths of long forgotten historical figures and placed him in his rightful place among the famous of the Founding Fathers. Now Tom Hanks and HBO brings David McCullough's engaging 2001 bio to life with a 7 part mini-series starting on Monday. Paul Giamatti as Adams, and Laura Linney as Abigail in the mini-series that spans over 50 years of America's birth as a nation.

From what I heard, Mr. Met was more popular than the bride (who actually is a bit of a MFY Fan, but my friend is working on the conversion) that night! Is this your friend? Or is this your friend; Can somebody tell me how to embed YouTube vids in my posts? Nope.

  21. ="Frayed Knot"]Jon Heyman, when asked about Crystal, said that most of the sportswriters didn't like his appearence because, unlike Garth Brooks and some others celebs who spent weeks in camp with the team in exchange for their brief moments of participation, Crystal dropped in just a day in advance and then acted like he owned the joint. Heyman also admitted that many in the press were anti-Crytals to begin with because they thought he made them, as a group, look like dorks in '*61' Other than Brooks, whom else is he referring to there? Never mind the fact that Brooks' stunts was more than just publicity, he was doing it for a charity he was helping at the time. That's why Brooks spent weeks in camp as opposed to a one day pop-in.
