  1. Given the anemic offense (yes, even with Beltran and Wright back) I think keeping them off the board was the best choice. A throw home for the force would also have been one sure out and Uggla is not a fast runner so a DP wasn't out of the question.
  2. Third game in a row at Shea. Why? Hard to say, really. Pat Misch did not impress. David Wright failing to grasp the concept of throwing home on that play also did not impress. Jerry rarely impresses. I guess Sean Green had a good outing.
  3. Redding dug his own grave. Runs were from walks and HRs (ie. defense not involved). One more start in the DH on Sunday and then we should just release his ass to save the per diem $$. Wright should've had a second error and Uggla should've had one too when Castillo was given an infield hit. Pagan was already around second on his triple and the crowd was rooting for the inside the parker. Can't believe Razor actually put up the stop sign for once. Dessens was NOT in proper position to back up at the plate and got very lucky.
  4. Tim Wallach, Expos hits?
  5. The Padres answer is Nate Colbert, believe it or not. Indians hits - Nap Lajoie?
  6. Whoops. This is what I get from typing too quickly. That Ruth guy has the MFY record. The expansion team records are fun to try to guess. Let's say: Marlins: Conine (hits) and Sheffield (HRs). Rockies: Walker (hits) and Bichette (HRs).
  7. Mantle has the MFY homer record. Griffey for the Mariners. Frank Thomas for the White Sox. Jeff Bagwell for the Astros. Schmidt for the Phillies.
  8. Sorry we didn't mention it. Actually ran into G-Fafif in the draconian security line.
  9. Fun game. Hard to believe it was the first weekend and first day game I've been to at Citi Field all season. Only noticeable difference is that the out of town scoreboard is a lot more readable during the day than at night. Glad to see Pelfrey get things back together, even if it was against a B-lineup for the Cubs. Though Sullivan loafed it going after Soto's first double but the sliding catch in foul territory in the 8th was nice.
  10. Most tax issues can be resolved by paying the IRS rather than forcing criminal action, however. How cooperative Koosman was is debatable.
  11. Beltran 1-3 (RBI Single) with walk and K in Brooklyn last night, playing as DH.
  12. 1990: Pat Tabler Tom Herr
  13. I'm not crying any rivers over those guys. In fact, the 2009 Mets -- current roster status -- would put up a decent fight in a series.
  14. Shingo Takatsu?
  15. Joe DePastino and Joe Hietpas, catchers who were never heard from again. Also Brook Fordyce.
  16. She held her ground just fine until the very end of the interview when she seemed to back off a little bit. I guess we'll know in 2 years who was right.
  17. Courtesy Adam Rubin's blog, here's the author and Dave Howard going head-to-head on Fox Business (!)* network. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/mets/2009/08/book-it-author-defends-positio.html --- * Never heard of this network before. Who are they supposed to compete with? CNBC? Or is it some new niche market?
  18. Sorry to be the curmudgeon here but after reading that I somehow think he forgot the part about being sorry and being thankful that he didn't kill or injure anyone else when he fell asleep at the wheel.
  19. Fun Todd Helton fact: It was only because of his injury that Peyton Manning got the starting QB job in Tennessee.
  20. I think there's Carlos Muniz and Eddie Kunz if we wanted a couple of relievers. The only position player on the 40-man who is not already in NY is Argenis Reyes. I guess they have to clear a 40-man spot for Thole but I presume that can be done by moving someone else to the 60-day DL who's not already there (Santana, Nieve, Perez are all on the 15-day).
  21. Leadoff walks: how comebacks are born.
  22. Hey, look, another runner thrown out at home. Thanks, Razor.
  23. Yabbut, who needs Chicago anymore? You can get an authentic Chicago dog at our own Shake Shack now. --- Nice KTE.
  24. The pop-up was on Friday June 12th.. They won convincingly on Saturday but then Sunday the 14th was the game where Johan imploded and they lost 15-0. Then it was losing 2 of 3 to Baltimore and Tampa both. The final game against Tampa was Beltran's last. So if the popup wasn't *exactly* when the season went over the cliff, it was right around that time.
  25. I believe the animal in the avatar directly above your post is actually an alpaca.
