  1. OMG! The emotional sparkplug of the 2024 Mets signs with San Diego.
  2. Was picked up to solidify a contending rotation in 2023, got hurt in Spring Training, comes back to find the Mets in break-it-down mode and pitches like a pro the rest of the way, with the limited Met offense treating him as if he were deGrom. Became my favorite Met of a lost year. Before he put it back together down the stretch in 2024, threw one of the reassuring starts of April, lasting deep in what became the (first) Mark Vientos Game, vs STL, the Sunday afternoon when Mendy was ready to pull him, and Q said “I got this.” A big moment for both men, I thought. If Jose doesn't do his job so well in Milwaukee, Pete doesn't necessarily hit one of the biggest homers in franchise postseason history.
  3. Tom's eldest daughter has passed away from cancer in her mid-50s.
  4. Fractured left shoulder. Out a "long time," Mendoza says. Ouch for Nick and depth.
  5. Oblique injury for Sean Manaea. Shut down for a couple of weeks. IL beckons for season's start.
  6. Grapefruit League action commences this afternoon at one on SNY and 880 AM. Here are the first 2025 Mets who will say hi to Houston in Port St. Lucie. Lindor SS Soto RF Alonso 1B Alvarez C McNeil 2B Torrens DH Baty 3B Azocar CF Ortega LF Clay Holmes to pitch, followed by others.
  7. BIG HAIRY DEAL awaits as tomorrow’s News back page headline. The Post likely photoshops a beard onto the Babe.
  8. Al Leiter, Ray Knight and the estate of Donn Clendenon oughta be getting residuals.
  9. Recorded the postseason-clinching berth out in 2022. It will surprise nobody that it wasn't via pickoff.
  10. I rooted for him to pull an Jorge Lopez and get his ass canned. Felt like a real throwback to really wanting a guy off the team most of the time he was here, 'cause I'm a lot mellower about those things than I used to be. But thanks for getting Judge out.
  11. Way to gOMG. Thanks to all in Stockholm who make this an annual event.
  12. High-grade lat strain, PRP injection.
  13. Senior Met pitcher back on a one year deal.
  14. The Post celebrating FORCE, front page or back, gave me authoritarian creeps when I saw it in August and gives me more of them now.
  15. Fast, good-fielding fellow who takes a bat that was first-half clutch to the Twins. I always feel for the guys who fall away as a team rises yet continue to support the cause. Bader never appeared to mope.
  16. Francisco Alvarez, I hope.
  17. Former commissioner Fay Vincent, 86.

  19. Dylan Covey DFA'd to clear 40-man space for Ryan Stanek.
  20. Martino interprets the relatively slight Stanek commitment as indicative if continued interest in Alonso, luxury taxwise. Sure, why not?

  24. https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/22/yankees-hall-of-famer-mariano-rivera-wife-sex-abuse-cover-up/https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/22/yankees-hall-of-famer-mariano-rivera-wife-sex-abuse-cover-up/ Yankees Hall of Fame closer Mariano Rivera and his wife, Clara, are accused of covering up the sexual abuse of a minor at their church and in their home, according to a lawsuit filed in New York. The complaint claims the couple hid the abuse of a young girl associated with their church, Refuge of Hope in New Rochelle, where 55-year-old Rivera is the lead pastor, according to The Independent. The suit, filed in the Supreme Court of Westchester County, alleges the Riveras were negligent and did not act upon learning the girl was being sexually abused.
