The Mets are loaded with non-threatening boys.

Thanks for letting us know that the Washington Post considers Chico Harlan inadequate to his job to such an extent it is asking Nationals fans to fill in the blanks for him. Great KTE. Big series, no doubt about it. We don't need fourth place slipping away.

The Mets were two-hit. If the Mets had been no-hit, would have anybody noticed the difference?

I thought for sure Maddux would take himself out of the ceremonies with 20 minutes to go.

I can see cheering spitefully some extra-inning game when Yadier Molina is knocked out of the game and La Russa has no backup catchers so Pujols volunteers to step in behind the plate based on his experience catching Obama. And I can see Beltran being tagged about by Albert in the top of the 16th on what he thought was going to be a Wild Pitch but it bounced back off that brick wall at Busch and the Cardinal fans, wearing red, cheer in their characteristically supportive way. Beltran, of course, forgot to slide. Then Pujols hits a home run off Sean Green to end it. -

="LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr"]Entourage's Kevin Connolly, however, is first against the wall once the revolution comes. The native LONG ISLANDER gets it for a show moment he ad-libbed (against the wishes of Dillon and several show producers... largely because it's inaccurate) wherein his character asks about Yankee-Angels tickets and offhands "Who cares about the Mets?" Showrunner Doug Ellin planned to make E a Mets fan but Connolly wouldn't go for it. BOO!!! Seinfeld lost my support when he came on with Steve Somers after the Home Opener and told Mets fans to STFU regarding any criticism of Citi Field. The Wilpons arranged for his beautiful suite and therefore they could no wrong. -
I think CF looks best when viewed from 126th St, though that's not really the ballpark. The admin building looks like a civic institution there, like a school or post office from the 1930s. Fits into a neighborhood even if the neighborhood isn't there. I like the back end of it, supporting the Willie Mays Bridge and the Pepsi Porch, as viewed from the Promenade as well. A bit of an OP@CY warehouse feel. Just a bit.

Fine representatives of Metsdom all. I went with Tim Robbins because he's lent his voice to at least two documentaries, really knows his stuff in interviews, seems more sincere than just looking for laffs and had to put up with Mike & the Mad Dog questioning his authenticity. Dude's eleventh birthday was Game Five of the '69 WS. -
Also, the President meets New York Mets legend Willie Mays. Willie sure does like that cap.

Nice nonpolitical discussion from MLB Network. The president isn't the first Chicagoan I've heard refer to Kaminsky Park. What's up with that?

Ichiro pays his respects to the Hall of Famer whose record he broke and speaks out against ludicrous dress codes. ]Ichiro visits Sisler's grave ESPN.com news services During an All-Star Weekend when history is made and honored, Ichiro Suzuki paid respects to a man whose achievements are linked with his own. Ichiro, in St. Louis for his ninth All-Star Game, visited the grave of St. Louis Browns star George Sisler, whose single-season record of 257 hits was broken by the Mariners outfielder in October 2004. Sisler's descendants -- including Sisler's 81-year-old daughter, Frances Sisler Drochelman -- had traveled to Seattle to witness Ichiro break the record that was set in 1920, and last weekend, Ichiro returned the gesture. "I wanted to do that for a grand upperclassman of the baseball world," Ichiro told MLB.com. "I think it's only natural for someone to want to do that, to express my feelings in that way." Ichiro, accompanied by his wife, Yumiko, and some friends, laid flowers at Sisler's grave, at Des Peres Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Sisler, a Hall of Famer, died on March 26, 1973. His career was marked by a lifetime .340 batting average, and a .407 average in 1920. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1939. "There's not many chances to come to St. Louis," Ichiro said, according to the Seattle Times. "In 2004, it was the first time I crossed paths with him, and his family generously came all the way to Seattle." Another All-Star Game might be old hat to Ichiro, who was the MVP of the 2007 game and has won a Gold Glove in each season since entering the major leagues out of Japan in 2001. But this time, Ichiro got to meet President Barack Obama, who threw out the first pitch. Obama, visiting the clubhouses, stopped and signed a ball for Ichiro, who gave a slight bow upon meeting the President and appeared as giddy and excited as a kid. "My idea, when I saw him, was to say, 'What's up?' to him," Ichiro said. "But I got nervous. You know, he has that kind of aura about him. So I got nervous and I didn't say that to him. I was a little disappointed about that. "But I realized after seeing him today that presidents wear jeans, too. So my hope is that our skipper, [Don] Wakamatsu, was watching that and we can wear jeans on our flights, as well."

Phillies Sign Pedro...Immediately Place him on the DL
G-Fafif replied to Centerfield's topic in New York Mets Talk
Who wouldn't want to be Pedro? Sign a contract and then get a few weeks off. Caveat: Other teams sometimes assign players to the Disabled List and they actually heal and return in short order to succeed on a going basis. Crazy, I know, but I've heard tell.
