  1. LWFS sees something unsavory in Harang's visage and suddenly he's scratched. Spooky!
  2. It's Military Appreciation Night. It's the Fifth of July. It's Pyrotechnics Night. It's the first time the Mets have been home since Juy 4. It's still the holiday weekend. Fred Wilpon is a driving force behind the Welcome Home Veterans program for which caps with the red, white, blue are sold with 100% of proceeds going to that effort. So why aren't the Mets wearing those caps?
  3. Travis Wood, LHP, starting for Cincy.
  4. Harang reportedly scratched. New Mets lineup: Angel Pagan CF Ruben Tejada SS David Wright 3B Ike Davis 1B Jason Bay LF Jeff Francoeur RF Rod Barajas C Alex Cora 2B Mike Pelfrey RHP
  5. Consider this your stream-of-consciousness, free-range National League East extra man. Taking into account N.L. East experience only. A few players graced (or were graced by) the orange and blue, but are not necessarily here by Metdom.
  6. Mark Carreon went on to play for other teams, but he crossed my mind, actually.
  7. We need two extra men for our 25-man All-N.L. East roster. I'd like to fill it with a pair of players who aren't all-timers in the traditional sense, but the kinds of guys who are part of the fabric of divisional play. One will be a pure Met, one will be an opponent who may or may not have been a Met at some point. This poll will determine the Met -- a Met with no other affiliation during the N.L. East era (since 1969 -- please consider contributions from 1969 forward).
  8. FLUSHING, N.Y., July 5, 2010 The New York Mets today announced that they have placed infielder/outfielder Fernando Tatis on the 15-Day Disabled List, with a right shoulder AC joint sprain and recalled lefthanded pitcher Raul Valdes from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League. Valdes will wear #22 and will be available for tonights game vs. Cincinnati. Tatis will undergo further testing at New Yorks Hospital for Special Surgery tomorrow. Valdes was with the Mets from April 11-June 24. He went 2-2 with one save and a 5.10 ERA (17 earned runs/30.0 innings) in 20 contests with New York. Valdes earned his first major league save hurling 3.0 shutout innings on May 25 vs. Philadelphia in an 8-0 win. He notched six strikeouts over 5.0 innings to earn the win in a 10-7 triumph on May 20 at Washington. The 5-11, 190-pounder made two starts at Buffalo after he was optioned on June 24. He allowed one run on seven hits over 9.0 combined innings with one walk and 13 strikeouts. Tatis was hitting .185 (6-41) with six runs scored, four doubles, two home runs, six RBI, six walks and 19 strikeouts in 41 games for New York.
  9. From previous polling, the starting lineup for your National League East All-Time Team: C: Gary Carter, MON/NYM 1B: Keith Hernandez, STL/NYM 2B: Ryne Sandberg, PHI/CHI SS: Ozzie Smith, STL 3B: Mike Schmidt, PHI LF: Tim Raines, MON CF: Andre Dawson, MON RF: Vladimir Guerrero, MON The reserves: C: Mike Piazza, FLA/NYM 1B: Willie Stargell, PIT 2B: Chase Utley, PHI SS: Jose Reyes, NYM 3B: Chipper Jones, ATL LF: Barry Bonds, PIT CF: Andruw Jones, ATL RF: Darryl Strawberry, NYM The pitching staff: RHP: Tom Seaver, NYM RHP: Greg Maddux, CHI/ATL RHP: John Smoltz, ATL LHP: Steve Carlton, STL/PHI LHP: Tom Glavine, ATL/NYM RP: Bruce Sutter, CHI/STL RP: Lee Smith, CHI/STL/MON The manager is Bobby Cox, his coaches are Davey Johnson and Bobby Valentine. They need two extra men to fill out their roster. We are, in short order, going to help them by choosing a pair of players who have that certain National League East something to them.
  10. Fill-in-name-of-owner transformed his franchise and led them to three/four (depending on how much credit you want to give him for 2009) more world championships than any other franchise during his tenure. Of course he goes into the Hall. We know different because GS is so despicable but it wouldn't surprise me. And who doesn't make a pilgrimage to Cooperstown to swoon over the plaque of an owner?
  11. Taking on the Cherry Reds will be: Pagan CF Cora 2B Wright 3B Davis 1B Bay LF Thole C Francoeur RF Tejada SS Pelfrey P
  12. I sure hope Jerry Manuel isn't looking for a double dare vis-a-vis another episode of Frankie-Go-Round.
  13. The Second Spitter wrote: I will be most vexed if the following persons are not in attendance: 1. LWFS 2. G-Fafif 3. soupcan Well, I'm no LWFS, but I'll do my best to unvex you. In for one, por favor.
  14. Turns out it was just a mechanical flaw with Frankie: The bullpen phone works too well.
  15. Davis 2.5 Pagan 2.5 Bay 2.5 Takahashi 2.5
  16. Predictable person reaction to Bay's first-inning triple: "WHERE THE FUCK WAS THAT IN THE NINTH INNING YESTERDAY?" Not that K-Rod wouldn't have coughed up an insurance run lead either...or, more precisely, that Jerry wouldn't have left him in to do so.

You lead one game by two in the ninth and you're doomed. You trail one game by seven in the eighth and you're about to be gratified in ways you can't imagine. Baseball, huh?
  18. Joel Youngblood, giving signs in Arizona as the D'Backs' new third base coach. He could make some throws to third from right he could.
  19. bmfc1 wrote: Reyes is a reserve. An injured player filling in for an injured player. Hope he's not injured by next week. Hard to think of Reyes and any word indicative of "reserved" in the same sentence, but it's great to see the gold dust twins back in the spotlight. First time Reyes and Wright have been named together since 2007. Four years ago I would've thought they were a perennial lock.
  20. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The Rodriguez card is a 1976. Commemorating the last time he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.
  21. Not just any Giant, but Rookie of the Year in 1973.
  22. Taking a moment from my post-Frankie fuming to rightly compliment these cards. Great job per usual, Dr. Grimm. Meanwhile, John McNamara seems to be throwing his hands up as if to say, "If I'm ever managing in a World Series in this ballpark and I have a gimpy first baseman and a lead on the line, I dunno WHAT I'm gonna do."
