  1. No negocie Reyes. In any language, don't trade Reyes.
  2. METS ALL-TIME HIT LEADERS Through 6/5/2011 1. Ed Kranepool 1,418 2. JOSE REYES 1,201 3. Cleon Jones 1,188 4. DAVID WRIGHT 1,182 ROUND NUMBER MILESTONE ALERT Jose Reyes, just shy of his 28th birthday, collected his 1,200th hit, a single, on June 5, 2011, in the first inning, off Tim Hudson of the Braves. It was the 4,515th plate appearance of his career. The Mets won, 6-4. Ed Kranepool, not quite 31 years and 7 months old, collected his 1,200th hit, a single, on May 20, 1976, in the fourth inning, off Jim Lonborg of the Phillies. It was the 5,103rd plate appearance of his career. The Mets lost, 5-3.

I'm guessing that we'll see a review of Terry's "tirade" and then the ESPN cameras cut to a shot of the booth as Bobby V. discusses whether managerial rants can work. Better than the last five innings devoted to an appreciation of Tim Hudson and clips of no-hitters.
  5. Blowing an ill wind for Tim Hudson (one hopes).
  6. Newsday catches up with four L.I. players drafted in 2009, among them: CAM MARON: The Hicksville catcher also signed with the Mets as a 34th-round pick and was assigned to play rookie ball in the organization. He is currently hitting .313 with the Gulf Coast League Mets.
  7. Gee = Poise. More poise than any of the more established starters. Scintillating matchup, as viewed from 404. After the nightly showing of the Get Well Kid video, a spontanoues GA-REE CAR-TER chant went up. Chilling. Agree with Bucket on the likability factor. Their play is sometimes detestable, but they're not.

  12. He finished 16th in August '09, when he was beaned and out for a couple of weeks. Checked some random months when I vaguely recalled him slumping, but he's always been at or near the top of the voting.
  13. I had really hoped my calling out to "Demon" Buford would catch on in the latter stages of 1995. He'd steal bases -- be a base-stealing Demon -- and a legend would be born. That didn't seem to happen.
  14. If you're a Connecticutian (or whatever the Nutmeg State equivalent of Delawarean/Delawarite is) and you were a fan of Dana's, a public memorial is taking place Saturday June 4 at 1 PM in Newtown, at the Newtown Meeting House. There'll be several scheduled speakers paying tribute to Dana (I'll be talking about him in the Mets fan realm) but it will be Quaker-style from there, with folks who want to say something saying something. Nice podcast with several bloggers -- Howard Megdal, Matt Silverman, Taryn Cooper, Mike Silva, myself -- who knew Dana remembering him here. And speaking of Howard, he had a great idea that I happily (in context) will be joining him for on June 16. Dana was supposed to give a reading at the Tappan library in Rockland County that night. Howard lives near there and volunteered us to fill in, reading from Dana's work and discussing his life and the whole Mets fan thing besides. More info here. If this is in your neck of the woods, please consider stopping by. I have to admit a couple of times at yesterday's game I saw fans with scraggly gray beards and thought for a second I saw Dana. What a gyp that it wasn't.

  16. Wondering if this is Wright's lowest finish ever.
  17. These kids need to learn early in life that their entire existence should revolve around Mets scheduling, capricious or otherwise. Hats off to the Mets for giving them a clue sooner than later.
  18. Edgy DC wrote: I'm really pulling for Alay Soler to make a move in the standings. Alay! Alay Alay Alay ALAY! Alay ... Alay! Can't believe the Dodgers never picked him up.
  19. Swear I've been mulling this since Saturday night in LF stands, Turner's 2 in my face (albeit from a distance). I've always thought two numbers above all others suck for ballplayers: 2 and 59. Seeing Turner in 2 brought that back from the days of Wayne Housie. Throenberry may have something 2 do with defining the number in my mind, and he deserves all the accolades (relatively speaking). But I ticked Turner here because Turner turns me on RIGHT NOW!
  20. Depth from a trio with nothing to do with each other otherwise. That's how The Happiest Recap rolls. 052: 1976 -- Kingman reaches the Sky three times in L.A. 053: 1964 -- Bearnarth goes deeper than any Met reliever ever 054: 1986 -- Teufel needs a fly ball and delivers so much more Undercard: 052: 1969 -- Mets go to 11 for the first time 053: 1988 -- McReynolds just wants to go home 054: 1978 -- L.A. leads by six...and we all know even seven-run leads aren't safe against the Mets

  23. Fucking awesome game to be at. Citi Field doesn't quite explode the way Shea did for historic-type comebacks, but individual fans still make their own kind of ruckus. Loved TC leaving Pelf in. It felt like he was telling him, you got us into this, you do your part to get us out of it. Loved Murphy up against Maholm pre-Aesop's fables, lefty vs. lefty. Didn't understand the balk business from sweet (informally upgraded ) Sec. 124 seats, but glad it worked out. Had a strange feeling that 7-0 wasn't fatal. Also figured it very well could be and it might become a good day to sample the best of the Citi Food thread. 9-8 way more satisfying.
  24. Buchholz to DL with crummy reliever syndrome to make room for Reyes's return. Dale Thayer to be hayer another day.
