  1. Jemile slick on the DP. And Thole nearly gets hit on the slide...and not in the good way.
  2. Station. To. Station.
  3. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Just tuning it in. How obvious was Turner's HBP payback? Modest. Ron didn't think this was the time or place, but when are the A's gonna see the Mets again?
  4. Holy Josh Thole: They're about to play! (1967 Mets, you're on your own.)
  5. Edgy DC wrote: Yeah, but please don't miss my point. Which is?
  6. bmfc1 wrote: Maybe Ziegler shouldn't have thrown it so close to the batter. Maybe Melvin shouldn't have walked Reyes intentionally to set up the finale. "Bullshit winning"--smart baseball by Turner. Winna.
  7. Big-time rain has moved south and east, often a good sign (unless you're out in here, to the south and east). Also, the 1966 Mets are kicking ass -- "meticulously impartial" in their role as spoilers. Take that, Bob Veale.

  12. It's the bulldog edition of The Happiest Recap, on the stands Monday night already: 067: 1997 -- Mlicki (as if you need another clue) 068: 1970 -- Mets, 4-for-4 in Chicago, attempt to make like Brubeck and take five 069: 2003 -- Maximum pleasure from minimum Marlins Also... 067: 2002 -- Shawn Estes pitches and hits very well, no matter who he didn't hit with a pitch 068: 1994 -- Doc Gooden wins (though he doesn't anymore after this) 068: 2001 -- Mets keep Carlos Almanzar awake
  13. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: The thing is, you KNOW the Wilpons will roll out the red carpet for the guy with intentions of giving a 'warm CitiField welcome' to our visitors from the Bronx. This they will do under the guise of being sportsmen, which they are in a sense, but they'll obviously do it for the ticket $ales, and won't for a second consider what it will all mean for the rest of us. If the Wilpons can afford to replace it, we can assume the pitching rubber used to surrender this (thus far hypothetical) milestone-reaching base hit will be pulled up and forwarded directly to MFYS III or perhaps the Captain's castle in St. Jetersburg, Fla. And because the rubber was stepped on by a pitcher who permitted a base hit to Derek Jeter, it will make all the memorabilia around it better.
  14. That I actually had to stop and think about it indicates the terrorists have already won, but of course, "BOOOOO!!!!" If it's some non-MFY and the Mets are winning by a dozen or so runs in the eighth and it doesn't break up a no-hitter or shutout, I think I could bring myself to lightly clap a relatively random opponent's mega-milestone base hit. But otherwise, no. Fuck no.

  16. He's under contract and is an occasional weekend anchor fill-in, so perhaps he was most available. Behind Guys! there really is no depth per se on the SNY Mets beat bench. Darling may have been doing a TBS game. (Guys! is doing a Cyclones game Monday night so he was given the day off to be with his family, or as he calls them, Guys.) McAnaney doesn't do a thing for me but it was refreshing to hear at least one report that wasn't interspersed with "Guys," "Guys!" and "Guys?"

  18. Jose Reyes SS Justin Turner 3B Carlos Beltran RF Daniel Murphy 1B Angel Pagan CF Jason Bay LF Josh Thole C Ruben Tejada 2B Jonathon Niese LHP I wanted to post this early AM, but Ashie hadn't generated an IGT. I don't want to say that's why we lost... That's not why we lost.
  19. Love that Ralph repeated his "Happy birthday to all you fathers" line on his way out the door.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: Who is Eamon McIneny? Eamon McAnaney is one of SNY's in-house shouting heads on its nightly wrapup show. He and his counterpart, Marc Malusis, and the segment as a whole remain an excellent advertisement for keeping spare batteries on hand to make sure your remote control works without interruption, particularly the mute button.
  21. bmfc1 wrote: Not even close at first. Was that guy a vacation ump? Rookie. But already blowin' 'em like a veteran. They're calling him a young Jim Joyce.

  23. So you've got a ticket for one of the upcoming Subway Series games, just in time for Captain Intangibles to register his 3,000th. After he's made the entire ballpark better by reaching base safely, what you do?
