At LI Ducks game last week, he was listed on a dry erase board among the Ducks Alumni in other places -- at AAA Oklahoma City for the Astros. Then he was released. Made me think, geez, the guy can't make the staff of the worst team in baseball, and then he's released. Hard to believe he can't help someone.
  2. Learn to pitch the Brent Strom way.
  3. You want Met wins? Three of the best are here. 121: 2004 -- The San Francisco Treat that needed a catchy name (like maybe the San Francisco Treat) 122: 2006 -- The 1986 champs drop by to check on their legacy 123: 1972 -- Eight-run deficit? Two innings to go? Dave Marshall as de facto DH? Oh, look -- three more wins: 121: 1975 -- Jerry Koosman, Seaver reliever 122: 1989 -- Talking with his left arm in those days 123: 1979 -- Mets win! Mets win! Mets win! Seriously, it takes three third outs for the Mets to win.

  7. The Brewers. The Phillies. Then the Braves. What a scheduling treat.
  8. How strange it must be to have one's groin reported on.

Third base or to some team that didn't get Prince Fielder. No 3B in Sanchez's MLB past. One stadium-opening splash (beyond opening a stadium) would be a grand gesture by the Marlins. Can't see this one given that one of their best young (cheap) players plays the same position.

  11. Case made for the most annoying fucker in baseball winning MVP here. No longer is he a supporting player in the shadows of his more famous teammates. Instead, he has quietly stepped into the spotlight and led the Phillies to the best record in baseball. Well, at least figuratively speaking. One would think being the best offensive player on the best team would lead to greater levels of visibility, but in Victorinos case it hasnt.
  12. Two pitchers, six letters -- fewest ever for a pair of probables? Or did Bill Lee once face a versatile Chin-lung Hu?
  13. David Wright, who along with Jason Bay has been the Mets hitter most adversely affected by Citi Fields dimensions, said, Its frustrating when you hit a ball good and it doesnt go anywhere. Thats not just here, but also in San Diego and the other pitchers parks. Of course, Id like to see a place where you hit a ball good, you square a ball up, youre rewarded for it. Obviously, thats not the case here.... Wright, who has hit 22 home runs in 639 career at-bats at Citi Field, said its not so much the distances down the lines (335 feet to left, 300 to right), but the deep power alleys and high fences that make it such a difficult home run park. Ive never been one to lobby for anything, Wright said, But Im a hitter and, of course, Id prefer a hitters park over a pitchers park. Everyone knows this place plays big. I guess Id love to pitch here. 1) It's frustrating when David Wright doesn't hit a ball well -- or says he hits a ball good instead of well. 2) At this rate, I wouldn't mind David Wright pitching here. He almost pitched in an All-Star Game.
  14. And John Stearns just identified Craig Swan as "probably the best pitcher on our staff." Suck on it, Zachry.
  15. SNY filling post-postgame time with 1978 film. If Eddie is bitter that Jose/David breaks his hit record, it won't match his resentment at Bobby V taking the bubble-blowing crown.
  16. What the left field fence needs is a Bay window.
  17. Terry had indicated no roster moves would be made pre-9/1, but geez. Hope this isn't ruining the Monks' honeymoon. It would ruin mine (a little).
