  1. Mr. Met with his second appearance of the season on 30 Rock last night, or two fewer than David Wright has in 2012. He appeared on a couch with Tracy Jordan in a wacky flashback montage.
  2. Pudge Rodriguez still out there.
  3. WAITER: How did you find your steak? CUSTOMER: I merely looked under my baked potato and there it was. From Mad magazine, sometime in my childhood.

  6. We did not have a friend at Manufactuers Vanover.
  7. Francouer rocks! (As long as he's nowhere near our lineup.) Times story notes the Giant territorial claim couldn't be clearer, even if it is fairly stupid at this stage of the respective franchises' existences. In the Bay Area, the market had always been more clearly demarcated: the Giants had the rights to San Francisco and San Mateo Counties, and the As controlled Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Neither team had Santa Clara County, where San Jose is. Then in 1990, Bob Lurie, the owner of the Giants at the time, wanted to move to San Jose; Walter Haas, the As owner, gave his consent. When Luries deal collapsed, the Giants kept the rights to Santa Clara County. Wolff argues that Haas agreed to give the Giants the rights to Santa Clara County only if the team moved there. Yet when Lurie sold the team in 1993, the buyers which included the Fisher family did so in part because Santa Clara County would remain Giants territory. When Fisher sold his stake in the Giants so he could buy the As, he did so knowing the Giants had control of Santa Clara County.

  11. Limbaugh is paid to be virulently opinionated to say nothing of offensive (he's only been bellowing about "feminazis" for 24 years). Imus was paid to be irreverent, albeit with a gloss of down-home intellectual curiosity. Their employers could have given two figs what they said as long as the balance sheet worked in their favor. When "sluts" and "nappy-headed ho's" proved potentially unprofitable, the balance tipped the other way. Those are commercial enterprises, and and their cases, in a way, exemplify the free market. People get up in arms over their "outrageousness," advertisers pull out. Advertisers pull out, all that opinion and irreverence suddenly ain't worth standing behind...even though their employers knew damn well what they had nurtured. Guillen's brand equity is loose cannon. That's what the Marlins hired. They didn't count on him turning around and firing in their own faces is all. Marlins ownership is a worm, but I can't blame them for trying to wriggle off the hook Ozzie (and they, by hiring him) created. If Guillen was speaking from some (bizarre) conviction that Castro was good for Cuba, and stuck to it, I'd sort of respect the taking of a stand. But he was just being wacky because that's what Ozzie Guillen does. Thank goodness MLB condemned him, because they would never associate with something as wretched as an arm of Castro's government, lest they be seen as having legitimized his freedom-squelching regime. No, not them.

  13. Ozzie Guillen was hired to be good for business. He looms as the diametric opposite. It's funny because it's happening to the Marlins.
  14. Ronny Cedeno, Mets third baseman No. 148. Or as was put in An Amazin' Era when the count was a mere 79 men at third base... 15. Ronnie was his most impressive in six seasons last night. Most of the time, when it comes to opinion, he mostly seconds Gary to the point I think if Gary did a 180 on a given issue, Ronnie would seamlessly agree with that, too. He really offered up some analysis this time.

  23. Terry Mulholland came up eight days before the Rockies' starting pitcher tonight, Jamie Moyer. They were teammates for two months, acquired within a day of each other at the 1996 trade deadline by the Mariners, each for a future Met (Mulholland from Philly for Desi Relaford, Moyer from Boston for Darren Bragg). Mulholland kept on rockin' the free agent market, signing with the Cubs en route to fulfilling the SMB tour schedule.
