  2. Jesse Gonder really shouldn't try to operate lumber so soon after taking his medications.
  3. Catching for your Long Island Ducks...Ramon Castro. Assuming his alarm clock cooperates.
  4. Harvey has pitched seven times in 2013 and four times he's been outright sensational. By the fourth time -- no matter that it's the best start of his burgeoning career and one of the best starts you'll ever see -- I get the sense it's a little "...yeah?" in terms of reaction. It's fucking crazy, of course, but if he's not spoiling some elements of the hardcore then he's not quite surprising them anymore. Plus Twitter.
  5. Q&A with Gelf Magazine here; includes shout-out to site close to all of our hearts/minds (as does the book itself).
  6. Harvey 6.0 Baxter 2.0 Parnell 1.0 Davis 0.5 Lagares 0.5
  7. Need to test the pie theory with more JV walkoff grand slams and the like.
  8. Not 2004 Mets, but timeless Mets.
  9. Another lineup featuring a 2004 Met: Alejandro De Aza, lf Jeff Keppinger, 2b Alex Rios, rf Adam Dunn, 1b Conor Gillaspie, 3b Alexei Ramirez, ss Tyler Flowers, c Dewayne Wise, cf Hector Santiago, lhp Mr. Keppinger will be coached, in part, by Joe McEwing, completing our troika of 2004 Mets for the evening unless I'm missing Bartolome Fortunato in the back of the ChiSox bullpen.
  10. Mets lineup for Harvey's 7th start of 2013: Ruben Tejada SS Daniel Murphy 2B David Wright 3B John Buck C Lucas Duda LF Andrew Brown RF Ike Davis 1B Juan Lagares CF Matt Harvey - RHP Mets lineup for Seaver's 7th start of 2013: Bud Harrelson SS Al Luplow CF Ed Charles 3B Tommy Davis LF Ed Kranepool 1B Jerry Buchek 2B Ron Swoboda RF John Sullivan C Tom Seaver P Other than 3B, 2B and C, would you necessarily take anything 2013 is offering over what 1967 put out there?
  11. Was CleSox in a 1976 update set or something like that?
  12. Tucker Ashford replaced Hubie Brooks as the starting third baseman 30 years ago tonight. Accompanying Ashford up from Tidewater: right fielder Darryl Strawberry.
  13. Jesus, that's good.
  14. Wright 3.0 Turner 0.5
  15. Wright 2.0 Valdespin 1.0 Tejada 1.0 Buck 1.0 Duda 1.0 Byrd 1.0 Parnell 1.0 Familia 1.0 Murphy 0.5 Hawkins 0.5
  16. 952. Shaun Marcum 953. Andrew Brown
  17. The lower third of this lineup feels like it could have come tumbling out of any wax pack of Topps Cards I bought when I was 12, except I would've gotten Craig Kusick, Ed Farmer and Craig Kusick again.
  18. I imagine Cowgill did his swearing after his demotion. Au revoir, next big things of 1980 and 2013, respectively.
  19. It's getting Brown in Atlanta: Ruben Tejada - SS Daniel Murphy - 2B David Wright - 3B John Buck - C Justin Turner - 1B Lucas Duda - LF Marlon Byrd - CF Andrew Brown - RF Shaun Marcum - RHP
  20. From the Member Promotion thread, if I may, since it's Metsian as much as me: I'll be reading from and discussing The Happiest Recap at the Varsity Letters sports literature series downtown Thursday night (5/9). The place is Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker St., between Thompson and Sullivan (adjacent to several subway lines). I'm on the bill with the guy who wrote the book revealing Lenny Dykstra is not the All-American Boy. May be another speaker as well. Details here: http://www.gelfmagazine.com/gelflog/arc ... riters.php Directions here: http://www.lepoissonrouge.com/location/ Would love to see anybody who can make it. Thanks.
  21. Four cards that make the Mets heart sing four times. Bravo!
  22. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I do recall being at some Saturday-night games in the Benny Agbayani Era when the Mets opened the games with a Don Pardo "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!" thing. In fact it was Benny Agbayani-gives-away-the-second-out-ball night. Collin Cowgill = Charlie Rocket.
  23. Pittsburgh trying to emulate New York, yet when they come to New York next week and see how the Mets introduce their players, they'll be surprised to learn New York doesn't do anything they couldn't do in Pittsburgh or anywhere else. Well done, Buccos.
  24. If I ever incorporate, I'm totally going with Andrelton Simmons.
  25. Valdespin 3.0 Wright 2.5 Byrd 1.0 Buck 1.0 Atchison 1.0 Parnell 1.0 Rice 0.5
