The time he was hit on the helmet, fell to the ground dazed and was concussed? Tough to charge the mound under those circumstances. The bat throwing by Clemens in the WS Game one. You remember that, right? That wasn't a plunking. That was just bizarre. Everybody gathered at the mound as ballplayers will and then dispersed. Mike losing his mind and going after Clemens once Clemens skipped the bat barrel by his feet would have felt exhilarating for a second, yet wounded the Mets immeasurably in the course of the Series, as it would have courted ejection and disaster. Until further notice, Mike sticks his tongue out at Roger from Cooperstown.
  4. Navarro and Remlinger each make cameos in "Piazza," which covers the years when Mike was rising in the west while the Mets were scuffling in the east before the two entities joined forces. A lot of these brief Mets are extra top of mind for me as a result.

  10. Good night, Tel Aviv, where they won't lose sleep over Israel bowing out. https://www.google.com/amp/www.wsj.com/amp/articles/team-israel-is-a-hit-but-barely-registers-in-tel-aviv-1489503673 Japan and the Netherlands are, per Jared Diamond's uncle Neil, comin' to America. (I have no idea if Jared and Neil are related, actually. )

  21. The John Mitchell of his generation, up a little at a time year after year, not quite dependable the minute you begin to depend on him. Will that change in 2017? I'm buying into the low-key hype that he's made an adjustment. Bullpen here he comes soon enough, taking the nebulous Erik Goeddel role and making it better.

Well, except for Jim McAndrew. I keep thinking his name is "Asdrubal." That would explain why Lost Nation is so dang hard to find.
