  1. Rosario's pickoff was quietly self-immolating, though I have the feeling whatever size lead was handed forth in the top of the sixteenth was destined to evaporate in that inning's bottom.
  2. Sigh. Dave will depart our tracking exercise now, as 33rd HR in Game 134 kind of kills the mood.
  3. Eight innings of shutout ball from the bullpen, but Mazza turned back into a pumpkin as soon as there was a lead to protect. Two mop-up innings in Minnesota, one very good inning in San Francisco and then...nothing left. I love that Bumgarner wanted to go out for the tenth. Hate what he does to us, and I'll really hate anything he does for the MFYs should it come to that, but boy does he not care which era he's pitching in.
  4. Intensely questionable managing in the top of the 10th: second and third, nobody out, Callaway pinch-hits for Ramos for Lagares vs Will Smith. No way the lefty won't IBB Ramos, which he does. So you've burned your last RH bat and compound it by pinch-running Guillorme for Ramos, depleting your bench. Eventually, Dom Smith winds up in right.
  5. Not the thread that never sleeps. Alonso homers solo in the top of the 16th. Giants score twice in response.
  6. 32nd HR: Hundley 1996: Mets Game 111 Beltran 2006: Mets Game 104 Alonso 2019: Mets Game 96 Kingman 1976: Mets Game 92
  7. Two leadoff triples that didn't score. That's Thortastic.
  8. Chris "Don't Call Me Craig" Paddack comes out with a one-hitter after 7.2 IP.
  9. Marlin Starlin Castro says Pete Alonso is a more impressive rookie, breaks up Chris Paddack's bid with a homer to lead off the eighth. Sorry, San Diego.
  10. Paddack through seven. Preston Gomez has not taken him out.
  11. kZcyRLtwUVY Be sure to wear a Mets cap on your head. Syndergaard vs. Bumgarner at whatever it's called now park, 9:45 PM EDT. Stay up late and keep the Mets' winning streak going.
  12. Paddack the Padre has a no-no through six, perhaps determined to upstage his imaginary rival Pete Alonso on the day the Polar Bear crushed one 474 feet. It was a perfecto bid through five.
  13. 1963 Met Pumpsie Green (17 games) died today at 85. Best known as the first black player on the last team — the Red Sox — to integrate.
  14. Ernie Broglio, 83. RHP for STL who won 21 games in 1960 and 18 in 1963. Really not a bad trade target.
  15. Dave Kingman's 92-game pace of 32 home runs will remain safe for at least another summer.
  16. Jay Bruce on IL with strained oblique.
  17. 31st HR: Hundley 1996: Mets Game 109 Beltran 2006: Mets Game 104 Alonso 2019: Mets Game 95 Kingman 1976: Mets Game 89
  18. Twins have just acquired Brant Brown from the September 1998 Cubs.
  19. Amed Rosario has 10 home runs, fourth on the club in its 95th game. Sneaky good power production for a non-slugging shortstop.
  20. =41Forever post_id=16171 time=1563388432 user_id=69] Wee Willie Williams is unable to play today, being dead at the present time.
  21. 47-minute pregame non-rain delay honored Twins prospect Jesse Orosco, eventually the player to be named later in the Greg Field trade.
  22. Traded to the Jays for C. Considerations. June Schaefer Reliever of the Month. Sic transit soak up innings.
  23. Andy Rivers, Marie Slaughter and Paula from down the hall form the little-used bench. Grant believes in going with 1970 rules, though critics believe he's just trying to impress Aunt Flo.
  24. WJM is tough. Here's who they'll face at 1:45... Jeff McNeil – RF J.D. Davis – LF Pete Alonso – 1B Wilson Ramos – C Robinson Canó – DH (yeech) Todd Frazier – 3B Michael Conforto – CF Amed Rosario – SS Adeiny Hechavarría – 2B
