  2. Rich Hill's face, as Elton John said alternately of Sad Songs and Sassons, says so much.
  3. We officially have a general manager. FLUSHING, N.Y., November 18, 2021 — The New York Mets today announced the team has signed Billy Eppler to a 4-year contract to be the club's 16th General Manager. Eppler, 46, served as the Los Angeles Angels General Manager from 2015–2020 and worked for the New York Yankees in a variety of capacities from 2004–2015, rising to Assistant General Manager, before joining the Angels on October 4, 2015. “Billy has the experience, character, and respect of the baseball community that will allow him to attract the players and front office talent to lead the Mets forward,” said Mets Owner, Chairman, and CEO Steve Cohen. “He is a leader who has worked in two of baseball's biggest markets and his talents and personality will move us closer to my goal of sustained success.” During his time with the Angels, Eppler signed Shohei Ohtani in December, 2017, agreed on a 12-year extension with Mike Trout just before the 2019 season and tabbed Joe Maddon as the team's manager during the 2019 offseason. Eppler joined WME Sports as part of their baseball representation in September, 2021. “Over the past two decades, Billy has been a scout and an assistant GM. He's also more than familiar with the New York Market. This uniquely qualifies him to lead our efforts going forward,” said Mets President Sandy Alderson. “He's smart, he hustles and has a keen eye for identifying talent. He's going to make us better. I am really pleased that we have someone of his caliber leading the Mets.” “I'm so thankful to Steve and Sandy for what I consider an opportunity of a lifetime,” said Mets GM Billy Eppler. “We have a lot of work to do and will systematically begin to work towards our goal of building a perennial winner. I also have to thank WME for the amazing opportunity to join their baseball group, which is building something very special.” Zoom press conference at 12:30 PM Friday on your SNY feeds. https://newyorkmets.medium.com/mets-name-billy-eppler-general-manager-9da76a9ac9f0https://newyorkmets.medium.com/mets-name-billy-eppler-general-manager-9da76a9ac9f0

  5. Edgy MD wrote: Somebody at The Post woke up thinking, "All the contemporary readers love a good Jonathan Harris Lost in Space reference." I'm gonna guess that was more a nod to Joe Benigno's WFAN refrain whenever he expressed dismay over the Jets (or any of his teams) losing. Benigno likely parroted Dr. Smith, but generations later in the context of New York sports, it became his thing.
  6. Do you think that MLB should give out the awards at a ceremony rather than one at a time on their network? Corbin Burnes could take a page from Paul Simon re Jacob deGrom missing half a season.
  7. Journalist of the Year Zach Buchanan is only BBWAA voter who remembers to name Jacob deGrom on his NL Cy Young ballot (fifth). The rest abandon their responsibility. Zack Wheeler finishes a close second to Corbin Burnes.
  8. 1987 Met Al Pedrique will be the 2022 Miami Marlins' third base coach.
  9. =G-Fafif post_id=81238 time=1637166993 user_id=55] Hello, Goodbye won't load for me.
  10. Hello, Goodbye won't load for me.
  11. For starters, his electric inning of relief behind deGrom in the deciding game of the 2015 NLDS, the victory that catapulted that club from nice story to legitimate World Series contender. That 1-0, 10-strikeout shutout in which he homered for his only run was as WHOA as it got. Riding as Tonto to Yo's Lone Ranger in Spring Training was something else.
  12. I'm seeing the actor who portrayed The Chicken of “Carlos & The Chicken” infamy on Frasier. [tweet] https://twitter.com/adamritchie3/status/644791568919085056[/tweet]
  13. No more deGrom back pages that are about deGrom actually pitching the rest of the way. Sigh.
  14. ”A mentorship under [brian Cashman] and a strong recommendation outweighs Eppler's 5 years as Angels GM in which they didn't have a winning record." Martino on SNY last night. Good to know what the Mets prioritize.
  15. Jerry Johnson, whose ten MLB seasons were highlighted by 12 wins for the 1971 NL West champion Giants, 77 (per reliable sources).
  16. Edgy MD wrote: Spent a full season in 2008 with the AAA Mets in New Orleans. Don't know if he ever got tapped, though. Ruddy was called up, not deployed.
  17. Ex-Angel, ex-agent. I wonder if he's no longer ageist.
  18. GM experience. Not Chris Christie's lawyer or whatever the vague connection was. Great. Go build a winner.
  19. Reports out that former Angels GM Billy Eppler has received the Big Ask from the Mets to fill that very same role.
