  1. How is Dom Smith still a Met? between Vogelbauch and Ruf (and even Naquin) where is the role for him outside of Syracuse?

He's having a nice year but is aging, expensive, and likely to get worse by the time the Nats get better. From SD's perspective, it's future payroll relief in anticipation of what Soto will command in the near future but how much if they were eating a big chuck of it? The two sides will tweak the deal somehow but it'll be a side issue at this point. In the meantime, he may not hit many HRs in Boston (very high GB rate) but has the kind of LH swing that'll pepper the Green Monster. I think from the Nats perspective, if SD was paying most of his salary, they would be getting a reasonably costed veteran who maybe could turn things around an provide trade value later, as long as they had nobody else more deserving of the ABs
  3. I like that deal...for the Mets! Odirizzi doesn't worry me in a playoff series (does he even pitch in one?) while Smith was a very good reliever prior to this year,
  4. So, umm, do we get a big acquisition? Still would love to see a reliever and a catcher. a starter would be nice too but less important as we are good there barring injury* *but umm its the Mets, an injury is likely to occur 5 minutes after the deadline. Oh, look who is pitching an hour after the deadline? assume he'll pitch 1 inning this year when approaching deadline deals.
  5. The Mets are on the same tv they have always been on and I can still go to games from New Jersey as easily as I could from Staten Island, though not from Queens, so what's to miss?

This is why the attraction of living in Manhattan was always lost on me, even when I lived in the NYC area. "Sure, maybe $4000 a month is a little high for a 500 square foot fourth floor walkup, but look! Right over there at the corner of 66th and Amsterdam! IT'S YOUR VERY OWN DUANE FREAKIN' READE!!!" The food is the only part of the 5 boroughs i miss
  7. Gallo did not look very interested in that At-Bat. It was kinda like "oh shit Diaz? I'm fucked"
  8. What was the question? WAS it a stupid question? like when the reporter asked a then underaged Bryce Harper if he was drinking.
  9. walking the first two batters in a 6 run game is brutal. throw a strike jerk!
  10. David Cone is a traitor.
  11. Peterson in relief?
  12. "Hi, I'm Pete Alonso, and I'd like YOUR vote for MVP*" *someone go Nancy Kerrigan that Goldschmidt guy please?
  13. i've gotten so used to watching SNY on my computer, the TV feels like such an inconvenience.
  14. Maybe there is something to that? not getting enough sleep since the kid was born? My reaction times feel slower when i'm tired. how much reaction time do you need to lose before it has an effect trying to hit a 90 mph baseball? i'd think 'not much'
  15. Offense needs to STEP THE FUCK UP tonight!
  16. I don't buy #5 as an excuse. If a trade was IMMINENT you keep him out the lineup that day, but this is still a pennant race and with the game on the line in the 9th inning if he is still on the roster, which he was, he is hitting there. Not buying #6 either. Nido's career is best defined as prolonged slump. a slumping McNeil still should hit there. it needs to be injury related.
  17. How is there no pinch hitter for a light hitting catcher there? not loving where the bottom of this roster is right now
  18. looking good for 100! happy birthday and many more!
  19. Edgy MD wrote: A cruel irony to see Smith replaced by a guy shaped like the guy everybody was afraid Smitty was growing into. Smith instead gets into decent shape and they bring in his chunky white twin to try to take his gig away. Smith never became the hitter we thought he could be, but for a very brief glimpse in a covid-shortened year. Smith was drafted by the Mets way back in 2013. In the 2013 National League, Smith is probably still the the better roster fit. But in 2022 with a 26 man roster, a 13 pitcher limit, a DH, and the team's best (or 2nd best? whatever) hitter a 1st baseman, Vogelbach - a man who crushes righties, can't lefties, and can't play the field at all, becomes more valuable to the Mets in this league with this team.
  20. =kcmets post_id=100392 time=1658329808 user_id=53] This is why no one will hire me to be their agent.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: There's also a lot of speculation bouncing around about Cohen throwing his money and weight around to somehow maneuver into taking Druw Jones, the son of Andruw Jones widely perceived to be going first overall to the Orioles. Since there is no trading of picks (apart from competitive balance picks) in the MLB draft, nobody has really come up with a coherent scenario about how this this might take place, but I might as well put that out there with a shaker of salt. This of course didn't happen. How COULD it have happened? well, first the Mets (who had the 3rd largest 'bonus pool' with all their picks) would have found guys willing to take under slot deals at #14 and in later rounds. Then, the Mets tell Druw's agent that they're going to pay him $X million dollars above slot amount if he gets to them and would that work for Druw? Druw's agent says "yeah, we want X!" and proceeds to tell the other teams "you better not draft Druw because I plan to get him X and he is going to college if you select him and dont top that? don't believe me? Andruw has already set aside a million dollars for his kid to have the most fun college experience ever! bwahahah!" The risks for the Mets here are fairly low. The risk for Druw/agent are that the Mets somehow reneg as someone they like better falls to them unexpectedly at 11 or that the Mets screw him by drafting him and only offering slot value and getting the 12th pick next year if he declines. this seems VERY low risk. Doing this the year after they did it to Rocker gives the organization a stench that agents won't soon forget, and presumably if you are cutting a nefarious backroom deal like this the medicals have been exchanged and fully reviewed ahead of time.
  22. FUCKITY FUCK FUCK FUCK. Great outing by Peterson though. get this man some run support!
