  1. SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, MAY 2011 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for May 2011 is JOSE REYES. This is Jose's fourth Player of the Month Award, and his first since April 2007. Reyes led the Mets in May with 110 at bats, 18 runs, 40 hits, 9 doubles, 6 triples, and in all three "triple slash" categories, with .364/.421/.555. The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month for May is MIKE PELFREY. Pelfrey is also now a four-time winner, with his most recent previous win in April of last year. Mike rebounded from a terrible April; in May he was 2-1 with a 3.09 ERA in five starts. And the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is a third-time winner, FRANCISCO RODRIGUEZ in what can be called a landslide. He nearly doubled the point total of runner-up Jason Isringhausen. Frankie had 9 saves in May, with a 1.65 ERA over 16 games and 16.1 innings. Rodriguez previously won the top reliever prize in May 2009 and June 2010.
  2. It was the standard amount of time. Two full business days after the game was played.
  3. Beltran 3 Isringhausen 1 Murphy 1 Parnell 1 Reyes 0.5 Tejada 3 Turner 0.5
  4. Are you too young to remember Mike Cubbage?
  5. Turner- Beltran-Bay due up. Do you sense a big hit coming from Jason Bay? No, me neither.
  6. Is the Beirut team still interested in him?
  7. I hate when I forget that the Mets are playing, and then get that sudden happy realization that there's a game on, and by the time I check in the Mets are down 6-0 in the second inning. I hate that!
  8. The Schaefer Mets Player of the Week for the week ending May 28, 2011 is Jose Reyes with 7.00 points.
  9. Voting for Tuesday night's loss to the Pirates will close on Friday morning. This will also close out the month of May, so look for the Players of the Month announcement some time tomorrow. Schaefer POTG 5/31/11 - Pirates 5, Mets 1
  10. Posted on UMDB's Facebook page: The Mets have played 55 games in 2011, more than a third of the season, and none of the games, win or lose, have ended in a walkoff. The previous record for latest walkoff in a Mets season was 1977, when the Mets waited until their 42nd game, May 28, 1977, to lose a 10-inning game in Philadelphia. I blame Jeff Wilpon! Actually, this is a little strange... it means that the visiting team has won every extra inning game that the Mets have played so far this season.
  11. Tejada 2 Capuano 1 Turner 1 Beltran 1 Murphy 1
  12. Where is the hot pastrami stand?
  13. Or maybe he'll stumble over Alex Rodriguez and get a bone bruise, and be stuck on 2999 for months.

I had a delicious knish at a Cyclones game in 2009, and two weeks later, when I was at Citi Field with my kids, I convinced them to try the knishes. And they were awful. The key difference: the one in Brooklyn was fresh and hot, and the ones in Queens were old and warm. Bad first impression. I expect it will be a while before either of my kids tries a second knish. Too bad. Last time I was at Citi, the Shake Shack lines were short, so we finally gave it a try. They were terrific, of course. But when the lines at the Shack are long, I like the turkey and mozzarella hero (with marinated mushrooms and peppers) at Mama's of Corona. They have a location in the food court atop the rotunda.

I don't have any idea whose initiative it is, but I've definitely noticed the trend. You enter through the rotunda and there are two or three smiling workers who will come up to you and welcome you and ask if they can help you. There's always somebody to ask where the nearest bathroom is. Much better than at Shea, where you'd be more likely to have an old guy snarl at you.
  16. I agree. I don't think there are any additional numbers that ought to be retired, but if they were to retire a number, it should be 17.
  17. Four games will close on Thursday morning: all three games from the weekend series against the Phillies, plus Monday night's game against the Pirates. Please try to get any remaining votes submitted today. Schaefer POTG 5/27/11 - Phillies 6, Mets 4 Schaefer POTG 5/28/11 - Phillies 5, Mets 2 Schaefer PotG, 5/29/2011, Mets 9, Phillies 5 Schaefer POTG 5/30/11 - Mets 7, Pirates 3 On Friday, last night's game will close and May's Schaefer Players of the Month will be announced. Look for three all-new retro baseball cards along with the announcement.
  18. Dickey 4.25 Bay 1 Pagan 1
  19. Very cute trailer, but I wouldn't spend movie theater prices to see it. Maybe I'll watch it when it comes to cable... but probably not.
