  3. Yeah, I wish him well. I feel bad that he may have become the token guy that's being interviewed to fill diversity requirements.

  5. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: The painful IGT, complete with Rogers' shitty lyrics and Ashie behaving like a douchebag at the end. http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/5000/f14_t5019.shtml I did a "print preview" in Firefox, and if that thread were to be printed it would run 82 pages.
  6. All those "wait til next year" comments at the end of that thread are a bit more poignant now, given how 2007 ended. And what to say about Steve Rogers? Steve Rogers on 10/19/2006 wrote: I should be at the New York FUCKING TIMES right now, instead I'm pushing 30, I live with my parents and I can't barely pay for accounting courses and I can't spend a few hours a week on a blog so that its been updated once in 12 months

  8. This is inspired by the Darryl Strawberry Award thread. I was going to post it there but I didn't want to clutter that thread with a big clunky chart. Anyway, I was thinking that the 2011 had a particularly weak offensive outfield. I ran some numbers (using only stats generated by the starting outfielders in each game) and here's what I got. As bad as 2011 was, it looks like it was actually better than 2010: yearABRH2B3BHRRBISBAvg.OBPSlg.1962178322245960116320927.257.340.409196317611784025415491919.228.295.3601964183321845765125121212.249.306.3811965176618339767104717118.225.284.3541966174520343061123620225.246.308.357196718041874706273718029.261.307.3641968183818345675184718046.248.302.3851969190228452479156224839.276.348.4311970189127252087216125350.275.350.4401971175421947366115621341.270.353.416197217502084336975620115.247.330.39119731961231495885442329.252.318.370yearABRH2B3BHRRBISBAvg.OBPSlg.197418232024667974521610.256.324.3811975189724951783105324813.273.332.4111976183322644278135922227.241.306.3941977174922346779134020236.267.338.3961978180623646480223919439.257.328.39019791815229525106184120367.289.368.4351980185324151783194022979.279.345.4091981118513229246192612152.246.316.3831982194722851781143119661.266.308.3691983191724448870156522978.255.304.4091984185825848483146425078.261.315.4241985182427149486176925464.271.345.4501986199630854093217728194.271.347.454yearABRH2B3BHRRBISBAvg.OBPSlg.19871886325531114198526891.282.352.4971988194430653898128528294.277.338.471198918482464558776322580.246.314.403199017922944898468627356.273.349.4701991181523947988124921873.264.332.407199217242294289164219575.248.329.3811993182527946582235719452.255.314.419199412251572914363815413.238.301.3761995164524444264133818637.269.336.39319961909297575105285024977.301.352.4641997183526347798155222550.260.326.415199817712184259695221638.240.322.392yearABRH2B3BHRRBISBAvg.OBPSlg.1999186829354296949209120.290.370.4302000193330052510065923536.272.350.421200118201994679573917935.257.319.3812002179322646769124918752.261.318.3942003173822946210185021130.266.329.419200418232534479789126246.245.318.4572005183127349610598326749.271.341.4742006187729650011598429146.266.346.4722007183526453010876727954.289.346.46520081804283504110125025242.279.351.43720091831272531115224222944.290.354.4462010181022747191184121958.260.325.39820111790260471104114824656.263.344.414

  12. The name Wayne Gomes rings a bell with me. I think I could have told you that he was a baseball player, but I wouldn't have known he was a Phillies pitcher. Oh, how nice it would be if the Phillies were irrelevant again. (And the Eagles and Flyers too, for that matter. Local sports mania can be pretty annoying if you're not a fan.)
  13. More memories posted today. I had been kind of neglecting them for a while so there's a bunch there.

  16. The all-white lettering of WRIGHT doesn't seem quite kosher to me. I don't buy or wear baseball jerseys, but if I did, I'd make damn sure it looked real.
  17. I was curious about the origin of the word "Metly", used today by Edgy in the Sillie Phillie thread. (I was wondering if perhaps I had coined it, but although I can't prove who did, I was able to prove that it wasn't me.) I did a Google search on "Metly" limiting the results to the cranepoolforum.net domain and got 14 pages of results! The earliest documented usage of the word that I could find was by Edgy DC on December 5, 2001 (which was before my time, hence the proof that I have no claim on the word's origin): 1975 Rankings (thread from 2001)
  18. I know of Jim Konstanty because he was a real anomaly; a relief pitcher winning the NL MVP award in 1950! That wouldn't happen again for another 25 or 30 years.
  19. Jim Konstanty, 20?
  20. Steve Bedrosian was a Phillie, wasn't he? I'll guess him at 8. And how about Willie Hernandez? Let's say 14 for him.
  21. How about Kent Tekulve at 10?
  22. The Rocketeer was intended to be a franchise, but it didn't do well at the box office. And that's a shame; it was a nice little movie. I bought it on DVD a few years ago for my kids to watch and they both liked it a lot. As did I.
