That's some of the best music of the twentieth century there --- as much Memphis Soul as Chicago Blues (and Aretha brought the Muscle Shoals sound). Simply as a delivery system for that music, I dig it. I also like seeing Landis use other filmmakers as actors. I guess I'm not that into music. I mean, I know I'm not!
  2. Back to the Future. It's not a great movie, but I didn't like Blues Brothers at all.
  3. Both movies feature currently-in-the-closet male leads.
  4. Didn't like Empire, didn't see Robocop, therefore won't vote in this one.
  5. Jaden Smith is set to star in a remake of "The Karate Kid," to be produced by his daddy, Will. The long-rumored project is moving forward with a 2009 shoot date, according to Variety.
  6. I loved Ghostbusters when it came out. It gets my vote.
  7. I'm not really a fan of Field of Dreams, but it wins this matchup.
  8. I had a friend in college who wouldn't watch any James Stewart movies because Jimmy was a Republican who palled around with Ronald Reagan. Me, I don't worry about the political beliefs of the actors in a movie. I take their performance for what it is.
  9. I'll have to make it a point to reread Watchmen.
  10. And from Marvel and DC, it looks like 2009 will be bringing us X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Watchmen.
  11. It does look that way. Me, I've never liked moronic comedies, but I seem to be in the minority.
  12. I voted for ET because I loved it in 1982. Now, it does nothing for me.
  13. I might watch Terminator. I don't think I'd watch Naked Gun.
  14. Well, the Bradley Effect will adjust for that.
  15. TransMonk wrote: Scrooge. I don't deny it.
  16. Bride. I'm no fan of the Ralphie movie.
  17. It would also be a vote for quality over stupidity.
  18. True, but I think the laugh also comes from the surprise. You're thinking, wow, how is he going to beat this guy? And then, oh, yeah, with a gun! It's kind of like when the Thing swats away the incoming spaceship of the dreaded Lizard Men of Tok in Fantastic Four number 16, The Micro World of Doctor Doom. Oh... wait. Nobody's going to get that reference but me.
  19. As I said in the first round, I hated Caddyshack. Tootsie gets my vote.
  20. Wow. Two movies that I really liked. I'm going with the bull, though.
  21. Wow! Two movies that I've seen AND remember! That's a rarity for me. Breakfast Club didn't connect with me, but my younger sister loved it and watched it repeatedly. Either I was too old or too male for that one. I got a big kick out of Poltergeist, so it gets my vote. Easy choice.
  22. It probably would have been better if Donald Duck was in it.
  23. Edgy DC wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: I'm so bad at this. I'm pretty sure I saw Terminator, but I don't think I saw Blade Runner. You weren't much of a moviegoer in the eighties, were you? I thought I was! Maybe I saw the movies that didn't make the cut. I've never really been a fan of the kinds of movies that make up the bulk of the polls. I'll have to review the 80's on IMDB and see what movies I did actually see.
  24. Didn't see Stripes, but remember thinking I'd probably hate it. Loved E.T., so it gets my vote. I loved E.T. a lot less when I watched it again many years later. (A VHS of E.T., purchased for my young son, was the last thing I ever bought at Woolworth's.)
