  1. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/Tie_6_01.jpg> The Final Round of the Tabloid Cover Derby has, at the moment, 18 votes. We get more than 18 visitors every day, which means that not everyone is participating. But we need you to step up and break this tie! It's never too late to join the fun! http://thecranepool.net/phpBB32/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=29146VOTE! America needs you!
  2. We have a tie! We need someone to break this tie!
  3. Maybe. But I think it was from 1987, during the time that Seaver was back with the Mets.

  5. Where are the threads from the earlier rounds? http://thecranepool.net/phpBB32/viewforum.php?f=30Tabloid Cover Derby Archives (And Yearbooks and Magazines too!)
  6. I think most of us remember that Tom Seaver had a second stint with the Mets.
  7. Yes, Conforto was on last year's winning cover, MIDNIGHT BADNESS. He has a chance to be the second back-to-back winner. (Yoenis Cespedes won in 2015 and 2016 with YES-PEDES and CES BOOM BAH)
  8. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: 3 deserving guys Agreed. I would have guessed that Ron was already in, but I would have been wrong.
  9. If they want to increase action, they should have the batters hit off a tee. That should cut down on the number of strikeouts.

  11. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/5_01.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2019/5_02.png> Well, it turns out that this year's winning cover will not feature our Cy Young winner, Jacob deGrom, nor our Rookie of the Year, Pete Alonso. The final Alonso cover was eliminated in our semi-final fifth round. Voting for the Final round will begin tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. Will the Daily News win its fifth consecutive Tabloid Cover Derby Championship with 3 JOG NIGHT? Or will Newsday and STREAKERS! dethrone our perpetual champion? If that does happen, it will mark two years in a row that Michael Conforto graced the winning cover. (He would be our second back-to-back winner; Yoenis Cespedes was on the winning cover in 2015 and 2016.) What will happen?!?!?! We begin to find out tomorrow! Our crew in Stockholm is making their final preparations for the big ceremony! Goosebumps abound!
  12. There was a rumor that the Mets acquired Cano "knowing" that the NL would have the DH for the last few years of his contract, and that they saw that as a mitigating factor. I have my doubts about how true this is, but who knows? And even if this is true, the Mets would still be better off without him. They could probably find a better DH in 2023 than a 41-year-old Robinson Cano.

  15. There's been some muted buzz about the Mets maybe going for Nolan Arenado. Rockies said to like Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Alvarez. Would that, combined with salary relief, be enough? Do the Mets want to take on Arenado's contract? Would he waive the opt-out clause? Is there anything at all to this? I'm thinking it's not likely, but let's have a thread anyway in case this heats up.
  16. I know, I should be paying more attention, but I suddenly have a much more active personal life! Who is currently projected to be in the Mets outfield? Nimmo and Conforto. And maybe Cespedes. Who's the left fielder if it's not Cespedes? Davis? Or McNeil?I'm thinking it's Davis in left and McNeil at third base? I read somewhere that the Pirates are not necessarily looking for big league talent in return for Marte. (Don't know if that's true. I'm skeptical.) And I've also read that the Rockies are interested in Nimmo and Francisco Alvarez. Is it at all possible that the Mets can swing two big deals? If Nimmo doesn't go to Pittsburgh, and is displaced by Marte, could he be part of a package with Alvarez that goes for Nolan Arenado? Crazy, right?
  17. Press release from the Mets today identifies Rojas as the 23rd manager.

  20. =Centerfield post_id=30337 time=1579722219 user_id=65] The Mickey Callaway era taught me that you can't trust a thing that is written about a manager before he is hired.
  21. Great guys they hired in the first place include Mickey Callaway and Willie Randolph and Art Howe.
