  1. It looks like Bay wore number 38 as a Pirate and number 44 as a Red Sock. I can't remember if the Mets currently have either of those numbers available.
  2. Well, in Beirut she wouldn't have to deal with Time-Warner Cable.
  3. They should have tried to find a picture of Bay looking resigned, or disappointed. Something other than that smile which, come to think of it, doesn't look all that genuine.
  4. The Times is reporting that the deal was confirmed "by a major league executive who did not want his name used because the deal was not yet official."
  5. Yeah, he's being overpaid but perhaps not horribly so. He may be tradeable in year three or four if the Mets come across a younger cheaper option. Now they need to get a starting pitcher or two. My guess is they'll turn their attention to Piniero now. (The other possibility is that they renew their efforts to trade Castillo and sign Hudson. I prefer the pitching scenario.)
  6. [bigpurple:vrlqpq4i]KEITH![/bigpurple:vrlqpq4i]
  7. A bunch of media outlets are now reporting this as well, but always, it seems, with the "according to WFAN" caveat. (Heyman's tweet may be the first exception to that.) I guess it's likely true, but I won't really believe it until it's confirmed independently.
  8. Cleon would have been my second choice. I definitely considered him. He had more years than Seaver, but I felt I had to vote for the ROY/Cy Young guy.
  9. 1-2-5-6-7-8-9-11-12-13 Hey! I think that was my high school locker combination!
  10. My guess is that the egomaniac will be spouting his "well-considered" opinions (with plenty of repetition, of course) and he naturally thinks of that as a major story. Whatever it is, the one thing I'm sure of is that I won't be listening. In the unlikely event that Francesa is breaking any news of importance, I know I'll hear about it soon enough.
  11. Yeah, Mike's timing kept him from claiming a decade. I voted with the majority in every category. (In the 1980s poll, I voted for Keith, who was the co-winner.)
  12. Apparently Mike Francesa is promising to break a major story concerning the Mets on his show today: http://bases.nbcsports.com/2009/12/a-major-major-update-on-the-mets-coming-later-today.html.php My guess is that he's going to rip Omar and the Wilpons. The "story" will be his opinion, not any player move that the Mets will make. That's why I posted this in this thread, with Mike being the douchebag in question.
  13. You mean Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Greg Maddux.
  14. I saw this yesterday, and voted it a 6. It was a good movie; I enjoyed it. I particularly liked that it didn't provide the ending that, I suspect, most moviegoers were probably expecting. I was disappointed, though, that it wasn't in 3-D and they never showed the old guy attaching the balloons to his house and floating away.
  15. They could have dropped a key word when quoting him. (Or maybe Omar himself dropped it.) But the quote would make more sense in the context of the article, and would be a minor bombshell (if that's not an oxymoron) if this is what he actually said: "We are pursuing Matt Holliday," Minaya said. "It seems to be easier {than} to make a deal for Jason Bay."
  16. Lackey never, as far as we know, got an offer from the Mets, so it's hard to argue that he snubbed them in any way.
  17. I'm wondering if Jermaine Dye might be willing to sign a one-year deal?
  18. There was no Photoshop in 1969, so they must have actually sent a guy in a Braves uniform to the moon in order to get that shot.
