  1. Well, we know that there are at least 23 voters (since that's how many Alomar got) which means that for 75%, a player needs at least 18 votes. So if Alomar was named on every ballot, that means that he, Blyleven, and Martinez are in, and Raines and Larkin fall just short. (As of now, Alomar has 23 votes, Blyleven 19, Martinez 18, Larkin and Raines 17.)
  2. SNY is reporting that the press conference introducing Bay will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow, and will be televised live.
  3. Apparently the plan for Delgado is to have him play first base on grass and to DH on artificial turf. (Artificial turf! I remember that stuff!) The Puerto Rican Winter League regular season will end on January 14, which doesn't leave a lot of playing time for Carlos. His team, the Carolina Giants, is 3.5 games behind. If they manage to make the post-season, it will mean at least a few more games for Delgado to play. According to this article Delgado says he's "not afraid to slide."
  4. The guy on the right (in the white t-shirt) seems to agree with you.
  5. There must be a blue moon.
  6. And I think the Todd Pratt game would be a solid second.
  7. Agbayani. If it had made the finals, I might have voted instead for the J.T. Snow game from that same series. 2006 Game 7 rounds out my top three.
  8. Maybe it was Daniel Murphy?
  9. You know, I don't even remember... Coming out of spring training in 2009, who was supposed to be the Mets regular left fielder?
  10. I think one of the reasons Zambrano is being linked to the Mets, to whatever degree he is, is because the Cubs need a second baseman, and the Mets may want to get rid of one. If any of the above is true, the Mets may be able to get the starter they need in exchange for a player they want to dump. The problem is Castillo alone probably wouldn't do it, and such a deal would open a hole at second base. (I can't imagine they'd anoint Cora to replace him.)
  11. I voted "modest." If he sticks around, and I suspect he will, I think we'll be glad to have him as a fourth outfielder.
  12. Guillermo Mota. Mickey Weston. Brian Daubach. Joe DePastino (maybe). Eric Gunderson.
  13. I can't imagine the Cubs taking on Oliver Perez. Someone speculated (I think it was Mike Silva) that Castillo and Fernando Martinez might get the deal done. That seems much more like something the Cubs might consider, and I don't think it's too bitter a pill for the Mets to swallow. I have no idea, though, if that would leave room in the Mets budget to sign Orlando Hudson to replace Castillo.
  14. Maybe that kid in the orange shirt is commenting on the positioning of the outfielders. More likely, he's pointing to the zany antics of the costumed litter patrol guy running through the stands with a trash bag.
  15. Oh, also worth noting: Carlos Zambrano will turn 29 on June 1, 2010.
  16. Well, technically, we don't know that Gammons was wrong. Since there was no team in Beirut offering Bay a contract, we'll never know for sure what his preference would have been.
